Meee YOW! Scratch Oh it got me! Wildcat Den State Park is nice for a visit. The campground has 28 campsites w outhouses available. Roughing it. Only slightly appealing to this reviewer, since even as a kid I thought, «OK, roughing it, just like frontiers people; there’s a reason they gave up that sht.» A top feature is the trails which cover a variety of terrain and sites as «Steamboat Rock,» «Devil’s Punch Bowl,» and«Fat Man’s Squeeze.» Those are historical sites and buildings. A point worth mentioning. Everyone thinks Iowa is flat. However, the park has rad bluffs and rock crags that have cool views. They let people have events like family reunions(ugh) and outdoor weddings(no, thank you). But the hiking and nature watching is stupendous. I think little man likes it too. We have never actually seen a wild cat but have seen deer, hawks, eagles, buzzards, and the usual suspects(typical birds and squirrels and groundhogs waddling bowlegged by). Hawks, eagles, and buzzards are really BIG and nefarious so guard your pups. When the stars come out at night it’s magical. No ambient light, like in a city, so it’s very sparkly. Wildflowers and weird plants. Overall, its a pleasant park and very peaceful for your meditative or Walden moment. I have cat scratch fever and the only cure is Wild Cat Den! Exaggeration but it’s OK.
