Told me at 1015 it was illegal to have kids in the restaurant. Apologized and told me it isn’t their fault they could not come in. We all know there is no law in Michigan like that. I have worked in the service industry in Michigan since 1997 and worked with the MRA lobbying for beneficial changes to laws to help our industry. There is no such law. Now lets be clear, if they just do not want kids in there past 10 pm, I am WAYOK with that. Just be honest and do not make up laws. We drove 25 minutes there after checking in our hotel after a long drive because everyone was hungry and the wife saw on Unilocal they were kid friendly. Eventually went somewhere else and were served perfectly. We went out each of the next 2 nights and probably would have went there again. Their sales loss. Doubt they care if they are making up laws to turn people away. Best of luck.

I cannot review the food or atmosphere because we were not allowed in, so I am giving a 1 star based on customer service and advertising. We got in to town around 10:30 the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We wanted to grab a bite to eat, so we pulled up Unilocal to search for places open AND Kid Friendly. This was a suggestion, so we doubled checked the page to make sure it said«Good for kids». When we arrived they rudely told us our children were not allowed in, we questioned their advertising and were told state law does not allow children in establishments who serve alcohol after 10pm, which is not true. I totally understand places not wanting children after a certain time at night, but don’t advertise«good for kids» or make a note on your page. We should have taken a a hint when the girl at the gas station said she lives right by there and has never been.

Great place to grab food and relax after a day on the water or woods. Solid draft beer selection and good food! I highly recommend the perch sandwich.

Don’t understand why the place gets a bad rep. A buddy and I were at the cottage on Duck Lake and decided to come here for dinner and to watch the National Hockey Championship. The bartender was kind enough to have one of the TVs switched to ESPN so that we could watch the collegiate game(despite the fact that the Red Wings were playing on both TVs). The atmosphere was phenomenal, and there was a jukebox with great music playing. There was also live music later into the night where they took requests and absolutely nailed them. It was a great place to be in, people were jolly, and the locals all seemed to know one another. There is also a pool table(that is a little tight if the restaurant is crowded), that you can play for $ 1 while you wait for your food. As far as the food goes, I don’t get why people gave it such poor reviews either. The burgers weren’t pricey at all. At about $ 9 for a meal, it wasn’t an awful price, and it seemed consistent with your average Red Robin or Bar Louie back in Grand Rapids. Buffalo wing appetizers were a bit small in terms of portions for the price that they were, but the food was fairly good. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of my time there, and I’m glad that I was there that night to experience the live music and the good food. Overall, a great experience and I hope to be back again.

New owners, new menu, great vibe! Try the«design your own“burger or pizza. Speedy service, great food, awesome value! Band tonight was incredible. Great evening«in the middle of awesome».(their phrase. It fits!)

My boyfriend and I had the wet burrito and both of us highly disliked it. The meat and sauce were both very bland. The meat tasted Italian instead of Mexican. It took all we could muster to choke it down. I don’t know about the other food on the menu, but the burrito was seriously disgusting!

I’m too short to sit at the bar and I’m 5’3″. The stools are just too high. The food is ok. It needs just a bit of something more to be worthy of the price.

First time here. It’s definitely a tavern with burgers and beer, lake perch, but no steaks on the menu. The food we had was good, but too pricey. The burger special was $ 12 and Mac and cheese was $ 10. We like a menu with more dinner choices. Service was nice and atmosphere was relaxed. They have a band on Wednesday. They seem to draw a lot of locals for beer at the bar. It’s just not our scene.

If you haven’t been to the Red Rooster since the new owners took over — you’re in for a real treat. The new menu is fantastic! Spinach salad to start with cant be beat. Asian sloppy joes are also great. Everything we’ve tried here from the Burrito to the perch is first rate. Highly recommend this place!!!

I second the Smelts, killer hand-breaded here. Unlike the other places around that do not. The rest of the food is very common to the other area restaurants. But they have a great bluegrass band the Oak Brand Boys on Wednesdays in the summer, not sure if it carries on in the fall. Call first. Plus good live cover/original bands on the weekends. They lost one star because the food /local beer list could be better & the other is for the bar, GETRIDOFTHECARPETONIT! It’s frickin disgusting. Might be a novel idea. Besides how disgusting it is putting your elbows into someone else’s spilled food — please you also have to think of the health concerns.

The Red Rooster has great food at reasonable prices in a fun, English pub-type atmosphere! The service is fantastic and the staff is very friendly. Great place for lunch or dinner with family or a fun place to hang out on the weekend to listen to live bands off the beaten path.
