One of my favorite restaurants in the Muskegon area. They have many food options, my favorite is the soup and sandwich combo. They’re food is very fresh and delicious. They offer many types of beers and wines. The prices are a little high but they deliver great atmosphere, service, and food.

We had lunch with our family at Hearthstone last week. The food was outstanding, with beautiful presentation and wonderful flavor. I really enjoyed the chicken walnut apple grape salad. Their special soup of the day was made with lamb; the flavor was unique, savory, and excellent. My sister always orders the cheddar cheese soup and is never disappointed.

Fantastic food! I never eat soup at a restaurant but I did here. Typically I find most restaurant soups tasteless or over salted. We had the soup sampler and I liked 3 of the four… unheard-of. I ended up ordering the Wisconsin cheddar and popcorn. Seriously, don’t knock it until you try it. Escargot and mussels were good. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly, medium rare. Ribeye steak was cooked to order, medium. Had a yummy brown sauce and a potato pie. They make a gourmet chicken pot pie which both of the girls loved. They are super picky about their pot pies. They verge on being pot pies snobs. Our server Shaina has a wonderful personality and is a great server. We highly recommend eating here! You are missing out if you don’t.

Visited on April 23, 2016. Whitefish special and Bourguignon very good. Love the cheese soup. A hidden gem. Wish it was close to home.

I had dinner at The Hearthstone with local friends during a visit to Muskegon. As I drove north on US31, I was disappointed to see so many fast food establishments and chain restaurants, and I wondered what local fare would be like. With places like The Hearthstone, there are no worries. I was told in advance I should consider their homemade soups, which I did. My chicken vegetable soup was rich and meaty and full of garden vegetables, without lots of salt. My entrée was one of the daily specials, a Moroccan salad with greens, couscous, and chicken. It was equally delicious and complex. In general the portions are generous, and everything was cooked to order. The steaks looked fantastic. Another thing I appreciated was their focus on service. Our waitress took special care when ordering, and unlike places where servers come out slowly and ask, «Who gets the…,» all our meals came out at the same time, and our waitress personally served each one without any mistakes. I also noticed that when thanked, she said, «My pleasure.» I commented to my local friend how it was refreshing not to hear«No problem,» and she said that they wanted to focus on a much more personal style of service here. Well, it was certainly«my pleasure» to dine here.

We decided to go for our 2nd anniversary as my husband had never been here. We ordered an appitizer including housemade chips with a garlic dip which was very flavorful and smooth. Husband ordered the beef bourguignon and I ordered the maple pork belly BLT with a fried green tomato. Both meals were great and new flavor profiles for us. But the highlight was the complementary crème’ brule, so good! Waitress was very attentive and bright, made our special night even better!

The service is great! The staff are friendly and quick. I ordered the salmon which came out fishy and wasn’t fresh. I also ordered the baby spinach salad. It was decent but the bacon wasn’t cooked through and the salad was overdressed.

I was in Muskegon for two days to wrap up a construction project. The food and service was exceptional. Jamie and Lauren were excellent servers. I had the mushroom fondue appetizer and I could not stop eating it. It paired well with a Chardonnay. The Paella was good. It would have been excellent if it had more seafood. The skirt steak was satisfying. I had dessert with both meals. The bread pudding and the chocolate mousse with candied bacon and chocolate covered pretzels were the highlight of the meals. I left satisfied and wanting to come back again. Thank you Heatherstone!

Cozy and quaint but for an older crowd. My partner and I were really pleased that they had a separate menu for vegans if you ask. Huge wine selection. Tastey starters. Of course, we had the hummus as a starter. For the entrée, we both ate the fettuccine and artichoke plate. Really tasty. The regular menu has a variety of items that seemed tasty. The lady that served us was a bit annoying but friendly. A couple of gnats were pestering us; kinda made us curious of the sanitation of the place but the place seemed super clean. Overall a quiet, relaxing and romantic atmosphere and tasty variety flexible dishes.

Hubby and I went last night and had a decent wait time, not long at all. We had the crab cakes and brisket tacos as appetizers. Crabcake was phenomenal, the brisket was entirely too smoky which was odd because there wasn’t really any meat in the taco. Also it was soggy and cold, wouldn’t recommend. For dinner, hubby had the pork tomahawk and I had the beef bourguingnon. Both of our sauces were salty although the meat was cooked perfectly. The drinks we had were some sort of apple cider cocktail with Gin. VERYTASTY. These were the highlight of the meal. Ordered brussels sprouts with my meal and didnt receive them until we were ready to go. No big deal, honest mistake. Our server, Bethany was really friendly and great. She took the sprouts off the check. We both felt like they were burnt and not tasty at all, so thankfully we didn’t have to pay. We didn’t feel Hearthstone was worth another shot. For $ 150+ the food should be on point, hands down. It wasnt.

My dear friend; knowing how much I love all things popcorn and that I love cheese brought me here specifically for the cheddar cheese soup and it was a match made in heaven! This soup was to die for! I’ve already started looking for the recipe online. Service was fantastic as well. Cannot wait to back next time I’m in town.

The service was great! Never received anything but the best! I actually made a Unilocal account just to review this restaurant. I have ate here before and had great food. Our food on this visit was good, but 2 of us ordered a side of carrots and a side of asparagus. Four baby carrots =$ 3.50 and Five 4″ stalks of asparagus =$ 4.50. I know produce is expensive, but we both laughed when they were put on the table. I would go with a sandwich and a cup of soup. The cheddar soup is great, very rich. Main entrees are good, but not for the price you pay. I have had the fish and chips before and not a lot of flavor. I have had the pasta with dill and that was overpowered by the dill(I enjoy dill, but it definitely overshadowed the rest of the flavors). This visit, I ordered a warm pumkin cocktail that was a special. It was incredibly sweet and I even added vodka to it. Sipped a few sips and ordered a vodka on the rocks. Make a reservation because they are generally on a wait.

Beautiful restaurant. Great service. We went for lunch on our way home from Traverse City. Delicious sandwiches: Root Beer BBQ chicken was yummy. My husband had the Hearthstone Favorite(corned beef & honey ham) which he raved about. We highly recommend this restaurant!

This is a must get off the road and stop here now kind of place. So glad we picked this on our way home late Friday evening from Sleeping Bear Dunes. It started with the warm friendly greeting by the hostess as we felt a bit under dressed and she assured us we were fine. Our server Bethany was top notch. A+ fresh from the heart food, ingredients and service. We will never drive thru Muskegon again without stopping.

Came here based on reviews from Unilocal. So glad we did. Absolutely loved this place. Ambiance was great. Low light and pleasant music in the background. Starter off with the spring rolls, had the arugula salad for the main dish and finished with the sea salt caramel tort. Everything we had was excellent. And by excellent I mean outstanding. So much flavor and the presentation of foods was amazing. Compliments to the chef! I like that they try to use local when they can. We were traveling thru and I didn’t have nice clothes with me. Wore a casual skirt and top. Ended up leaving my «nice» shoes at the hotel and walked in with flip flops. Little embarrassed but it was ok, no one said anything. :)

I’ll give a qualified«Woohoo!» since we are talking about Muskegon here(and not Paris) but the Hearthstone consistently gets it right. It is the standard by which I judge all other area restaurants — both for their food and their service — and is consistently good, every day and any time of day. Start with the menu — the mainstays are wonderful and have distinctive flavors that keep you ordering them over time but the specials are really seasonally appropriate and inventive without going into the«strange» that can happen when someone is trying to fillip the extra page they give you along with the menu. A shout out for the bar and wine selections — the bartenders know what they are doing and they have some excellent original drinks(my wife loves the Lister martini on the rocks) and the wine covers the spectrum nicely and is not insanely priced, but he glass or the bottle. Desserts — worth saving room for. We often share a dessert which justifies some of the entrée going home in a box for a lunch /snack later. Ambience — dark, like use a flashlight dark for those with older eyes. Just updated the interior and it’s actually quite nice but, maybe some additional light? The patio is open when the weather is right and makes for a great dining experience. This is Muskegon’s top restaurant and the fact that it is usually busy, speaks to that truth.

The food was very good. Portions were acceptable but not generous. We were given two rolls for dinner but never offered or given any olive oil. The server was helpful but not sophisticated. Would come back.

We were returning to another fond memory of a dinner we had at Hearthstone Bistro a couple summers ago. The Hearthstone, in operation for decades, lived up to its reputation as the best restaurant in the Muskegon /Grand Haven area. The soups are particularly good: my girlfriend had a lobster bisque with rich aroma and flavor balanced by acidity. I had the Wisconsin cheese soup, the buttery cheesy base accented by crunchy light cheese puffs. Steak frites draw them in and for good reason, the cut was tender and well seasoned. I also enjoyed the bread pudding with crème anglaise for dessert, featuring Michigan fruit. We sat out on the patio and got to watch the sun duck storm clouds on its descent to the lake.
