Moving is a hot mess for most people. Doesn’t matter if it’s across town or half way around the world — it’s stressful! I used 1 – 800 Pack Rat for a move from CA to MA and am glad I did since it made it made the move much less stressful than it could have been. Even though I changed my empty container drop off date a few times, they were accommodating and professional about it. I received follow up emails and phone calls from the HQ in North Carolina with each change, which let me know that they were on top of it with all the changes I was making. It’s especially nice to have the same coordinator through the whole process and to ask questions.
I had my container stored for months in MA and I felt the storage fees were reasonable. While there is an option to access your container in the storage facility, I did not use it. However, it’s a nice option to have! You just need to organize that with the customer service team ahead of time. Having the moving blankets included was also extremely helpful — they can cost up to $ 19 a piece if bought separately. The blankets are new, btw. They’ve come in handy post-​move with painting and renovations.
When it was time to have my container dropped off at my new location, the customer service team went out their way to make sure it was a smooth for me as possible. The scheduling for the pick up of the empty container was a little frazzled, but since it was an empty container and not blocking any of my neighbors, it was a very minor issue.
I would use them again if needed for either another move or to just house household items during a renovation.

Wish I could give it positive reviews, but I have yet to see the promised container.
Called 2 weeks ago to schedule container delivery. Received automated call on Thursday to confirm the Friday delivery. Was told that I would receive a phone call an hour before delivery.
4pm came on delivery day (today) and I had not received the phone call, so I called the main number and the woman CONFIRMED that I was on the schedule and they were probably just running late.
8pm came and still no phone call or delivery. I called but after waiting on hold, I left my number on the automated line that said I would receive a call back and not lose my place in the queue.
10:30pm came. No call back. I called the local Billerica, MA number and after no answer was routed to a call center in North Carolina. Nice man took my call (and frustrated berating), confirmed that I should have received the container, and after a brief time on hold told me he had sent out multiple emails and left message with every contact he had at this location and could not get a hold of anybody, but would let me know as soon as he could.
It is now 11:45pm. I had paid $ 149/​hour for several movers to be here this evening to load the container (I had them scheduled this afternoon assuming — my bad — that the container would at least be here by 5pm).
Pack Rat has offered to reimburse me for the movers with a receipt, but still has not contacted me with ANY information as to IF or WHEN I will actually get this unit. If this is a franchise location, they should be dropped. People DEPEND on timelines when moving into and out of a house and this was royally screwed up. Even if the container arrives, I have no confidence that it will be moved to our new residence when I specify and therefore cannot plan around it. And our new house is only 30 min away.
No proactive contact and the body apparently does not communicate with the mouth. As far as the main office is concerned, I am on the schedule for today (which has all of 14 minutes left in it).
So I wasted an entire day staying close to home since I had to place and sign for this unit, and on top of that still don’t have a unit, need to fill it this weekend, and have not spoken to ANYBODY who can tell me if and when this thing MAY show up. How do you plan around that???

I was moving extremely fragile and expensive crystal, fine china, crystal glassware, heavy furniture, crystal chandeliers so I needed a service that would deliver all this to their Tampa holding warehouse 1500 miles away safely and keep the container till I found a home to have it delivered to.
To begin we did a lot of research before deciding which self move service to use. Having an extreme case of needing to be in full control I searched for a service where I was sure my things would arrive intact. The only service to consider is pack rat. The containers are reinforced metal and water tight, a very large lock is provided (you are the only one with the keys), and 20 furniture blankets are provided. I would suggest you buy ties that you can ratchet your furniture down with. The container is picked up using a truck that gently cradles the container keeping it perfectly level at all times.
We put free standing metal shelving units in the container that we secured to the diagonal cross beams with zip ties. This was great to stack the boxes and we had the shelves to use in the new garage. The container was stored for 2 months at their Tampa facility and delivered as promised and on time. Every item arrived just as it was packed. I am very happy and would insist my friends only use this company.

August 2014, I shopped around for a number of Storage companies, Pack-​Rat came to our rescue with 3 storage units that we had to put in front of our new home we were renovating. The delivery was seamless and the customer service representatives were very attentive to our needs… Our level of stress was un-​measureable. We were downsizing from a 4 story house to a 2 story house with out a basement or garage!!! Pack-​Rat was more than helpful, they were kind, courteous and prompt with delivery and attentiveness.

We used Pack Rat to move from West Jordan, UT to the Boston area. It was great for us. We could take our time loading and unloading the units, and because we had to wait a few weeks to get into our new house, it was nice to have the units stored without packing and unpacking a storage unit. Pack Rat price matched the «other guys» and included complimentary packing blankets, which were very helpful. We had to make numerous changes to our pick up and drop off dates, but it was easy to do using their 1 – 800 number. I always received a confirmation email of the changes after my phone call so I knew we were on the same page. They also called the day of to make sure we were ready. Pick up and drop off of the units was easy and the guys were easy to work with. In all the chaos of moving cross country, it was nice to have this major part of the move happen so smoothly.
