Im here for the summer for the next three months, I went into the gym inquiring about a monthly membership. When I went to the front desk to ask the ladies they were extremely unhelpful and didn’t stop from talking to one another when I approached them. So I was awkwardly standing there for about 3 minutes until they said something to me. They were rude and talked down at me I think it was because of my age they didn’t give me the time of day (I wasn’t a middle aged woman but a senior in college). But thats fine I am now a member of The Outer Banks Sports Club.

All kinds if problems with this place. We purchased the 10 day pass for $ 95. Sounds like a great deal for a family of 5 right? Except… the outdoor pool didnt open until 3 pm every day — something they failed to tell us. We went three times. All three times the upper pool was closed — the one with the ONLY diving board. Also failed to tell us this. There is almost zero sun protection — one small area which is always taken. The staff is painfully slow. And we are y members in our home town. Zero discount on the pass. We wont be ever going again.

Could be so cool. But managed by people without brains. Trying to have an intelligent conversation with the front desk staff is like trying to listen to the ocean in a seashell. Got ripped off today. Problem could have been easily solved to all customers’ satisfaction within about ten minutes. It would have only required one small ounce of common sense from the staff. Management was non-​existent on site at 3:30 in the afternoon. Horrible, horrible place, based on the people they employ.

There are two gyms in the Outer Banks and luckily the hotel we were staying at gave us free access to the YMCA. For being such a small town to visit, this gym wasnt half bad. Lots of cardio equipment and a good amount of strength training. They had a basketball court and a racket ball court where most times were often pretty busy because its so rare for gyms to have this.
Everything seemed really clean, I saw people clean the machines after they used them, which is not usual because most visitors could care less about cleaning up after themselves.
Staff was very friendly and always said hello, asked if you needed anything. They had a big pool that was occupied more by classes then free lane swimmers.
I was happy with my visits to the YMCA and will go back if I ever go back to visit.
Cal before you go if there is a snow storm, sometimes they close early or don’t open at all!

Not being members of the Y, we just went for a class. The cost is $ 15 a day which is the same at all the other fitness places. We waited 15 minutes and the instructor did not show up so we left (without paying of course). They seemed to have plenty of equipment and a decent size swimming pool but at that point not worth the $ 30, for two of us.

I stayed at a rental home that offered free passes to the YMCA — score! My friends checked out the gym while I attended a yoga class.
Checking in was a breeze. We just showed the receptionist our pass and she marked 3 of us as attending. My friends thoroughly enjoyed the gym facilities. The yoga class was okay — I can’t really judge it since it was different than what I’m used to, but I did break a sweat and found it challenging, which is always a good sign.
The facility is very clean, the staff is friendly, and the YMCA seems to have a lot to offer — pool, basketball, gym, group classes, and more.

The OBX YMCA offers the most amazing deal for families — the «weekly flex-​pass».
For $ 95, you get a 10-​day pass for your family to enjoy all the amentities a full membership offers including fitness classes, an interactive zone, the gym, the indoor and outdoor pools with splash zone, and the skateboarding zone. Plus, on Wednesday nights, they offer parents night off where they provide free babysitting from 6pm to 10pm for the parents to have a date.
For my family of five, it was the perfect option. Plus, I got to have a «date night» with my husband!
