Well, it’s hard to tell a friend the truth when they paid for your room, but here’s the truth. I saw how much they charge for these rooms and I’ve paid less on the beach in Hawaii. I understand that they need to make all their money in two months, these are the going rates, etc etc, but just not worth it. I’m embarrassed that my friend paid for this, but grateful she had to work so couldn’t go. I stayed for two nights this July in a king room upstairs. First night I felt something on me in bed, ok, it was a bug, I killed it and thought, hey, it’s summer. But then I woke up the next morning, with bug bites in places that weren’t exposed during the day. So I paid a little more attention and even though out room had an air conditioner, the inn was always left open, doors, windows, screens, and there were bugs everywhere. Over $ 400/night and you can’t take care of the bugs? Biting bugs?! I know this is supposed to be quaint Nantucket, but it struck me more as one of those cheap European inns I would stay in while traveling in college. I even tried calling the concierge one afternoon and he was so disinterested in helping me I just moved on. The staff were pleasant, breakfast was fine(although embarrassing for what the rooms cost), but I would look elsewhere, it’s just not worth it.

Don’t stay here. The staff is questionable and the rooms are out dated and smell like mothballs. Not worth the price.

The Inn on India St. is probably 3.5 stars. I’d give it 5 stars because of the pool. So I’ll give 4 stars here. We decided to switch things up from The Union Street Inn. Last year we stayed at The Summer House on India St. They have several properties in their group — there is also a location on Fair St, the Pineapple in, and a location in Siaconset. All of their properties allow you to access the beach side pool in Siaconset, and they offer free transportation to and from. We stayed in The Primrose room, which was OK — roomy enough, but had a tacky border painted all around. It looked better in the pictures online than it did in real life. The pool in Siaconset is great, though. Nice to be able to lounge in cushy chairs without getting all sandy. There is an outdoor bistro and bar, and they serve fantastic food. They’ll deliver food and drink to your lounge chair, if that’s what you prefer. The food is pricey, but it’s high quality and several notches above what you’d expect to find at a beach/pool restaurant. The beach in Siaconset, however, is not good. No surf, very«rustic». Most people go to Surfside(our fave) if you’re in town, since it has amenities like a café, bathrooms, and chair rental. Siaconset has none of that. It is fun to watch the seals popping their heads up as they swim by. When we went, we stayed at the pool 99.9% of the time. So, hubby and I are split. I prefer the Union Inn(see my review), whereas he prefers the Summer House because of the pool. The inn in town is cute — the décor is not nearly as nice as Union St. I’d say it’s typical Nantucket B&B — so-so antiques, and so-so breakfast. Both are great, though, and since Nantucket is notoriously booked in the summer, it’s good to have two good options to choose from.
