The staff is great, no doubt, but the prices of the frames and glasses? Ridiculous.

Dr. Allison was great, top notch, very thorough. 1 less star because I looked at a pair of Prada frames there that were about $ 400. I went to Couture Vision in Naperville, and the same exact frames(I matched the exact model number on them) were less than $ 300. So, I would definitely not buy glasses there.

I made my appointment a week in advance, yet when I arrived at the office the receptionist told me that she wasn’t able to look up my insurance and that I could still see the doctor if I paid out of pocket. She rudely insisted that she tried to call me the morning of my appointment but I had no voicemail. Mind you, I’ve been to this doctor on several prior occasions, they should have had this information on file. I went to a different doctor the same day and they were able to see me without a problem. This place over charges anyway. I know I won’t be back. Anyone who values their time should definitely look elsewhere.

I finally have a job with insurance that covers glasses, so I was thrilled to get my first new pair in almost 5 years. I also had the impeccable timing of having my old pair of glasses literally fall apart as I was waiting for my appointment with Dr. Allison. The process of getting my eyes checked was fairly routine, and I was glad not to be subjected to the obnoxious puff-of-air test or pupil dilation(which I simply can’t handle). Picking out the frames was super fun, as one of the women working here helped me go through the tons of frames to find something cute. I will agree with another commenter here that the store is pretty heavy on the designer frames, but honestly there were a bunch of non-designer frames that I checked out as well. I didn’t feel any pressure whatsoever to go with a designer frame. I also got a pair of prescription sunglasses which were 50% off as I had purchased the regular eyeglasses. Well worth the investment! I’ve never had such a good experience picking out glasses: there was no hassle with my insurance, I wasn’t left on my own to pick out the glasses I’ll be wearing for the next few years, the price wasn’t bad, and I felt good about my choices.

It was time for a review of my Rx for my glasses and contacts. I had been experiencing some vision stress and wanted to have another doctor review my situation. Dr. Steinmetz’s office allowed me to create my appointment online AND provide my health and vision history online. I received a phone call confirming my appointment and thanking me for filling out the history in advance, allowing me to simply show up — ONTIME — for my appointment, with no wait, and no paperwork to complete. Everyone involved was professional, friendly, and thorough. Dr. Steinmetz’s assistant was extremely friendly and ran the initial test(refractor) and digital optical scan(Optomap). The Optomap should be done by everyone — yes, it’s a few bucks more — but Dr. Steinmetz explained that he has personally detected what would have otherwise been undetectable melanomas in patients(your eye is literally an extension of your brain, so this would have become brain cancer). The typically irritating glaucoma test(because of the dilation drops) is not at all irritating here — no drops, no problem. Dr. Steinmetz is very professional, personable and has an excellent supporting staff. I was in and out as promised, and was helped to select suitable frames for new glasses. The lenses I needed happened to be in stock, and I got my glasses same day. The contacts I needed, which in my case are bi-focal lenses — came in 2 days. I had never worn bi-focal contacts(mine are gas permeable lenses) and was a little concerned about whether I would like them. Dr. Steinmetz assured me that there would be no problem, and that if there were I could exchange them for normal single-vision contacts. The whole experience was professional, smooth, friendly and exactly what I wanted. This is my VISION — not a shirt I can exchange if I don’t like it. I want a professional who is expert in what s/he does so that I know no matter what, I’m backed by a concerned doctor, someone who will stand by their work(and whose name is on the wall), not a factory or mill. I will recommend everyone I know to come here.

I made an appointment here when my eye insurance changed. I had a great experience with the receptionists as they pulled up my insurance info no problem. It was the end of December so it was packed since everyone was trying to use up their insurance before the new year rang in. So my wait was a few minutes to be seen, but I totally understand. Their office hours are flexible and met my needs. The appt. was swift and painless. It looked as if all the equipment was fairly new and up to date. I met with Dr. Allison and she was very nice and gave me all information I needed and asked about. Once I was looking at new glasses is when I had a bit of sticker shock. Seems like they only have brand name glasses and are priced $ 200 — $ 500 for JUST the frames. Well I used my insurance for my exam and left without buying contacts or glasses. I went elsewhere to purchase glasses and my contacts. Even with less help from my insurance, since I bought elsewhere, everything was cheaper. If your insurance covers this place I would highly recommend for an exam, but I would purchase somewhere cheaper. Also, parking is super minimal near the front doors. As far as I could tell, there are no public doors in the back of the building where extra parking is. So the walk to the front door is not very safe. No sidewalk so you are walking in the narrow street trying to dodge cars.
