Early Summer 2014 I found my huge backyard tree was losing leaves like it was October. Clearly there was a problem, but I am a complete dummy when it comes to knowing a thing about trees. I contacted The Care of Trees because I’ve seen their trucks around town and figured I’d go local. It took about 12 days from the time of my call to get someone to take a look at the tree. The tree has Emerald Ash Borer and had lost about 50% of it’s leaves by the time that tree expert, Pete Ritenour came out to take a look at it. Pete gave me two options… try to save what remained of the tree at a treatment cost of about $ 700 with a 60% chance of success or remove the tree at an approximate cost of $ 2600. I actually thought about the treatment even though I later found out the tree basically has no chance of survival… but what got me and completely turned me off, is that upon handing me a formal estimate and hearing me say I wanted to «think about it,» Pete told me that I needed to make a decision within the«next couple of days» in order to give the tree the best chance of survival. Wait a minute, it took you 12 days to get out here and I need to make a decision in the next two days in order for my tree to survive??? Huh??? Sounds like someone needs a commission or takes me for a fool. And with that… I was done.

I’ve been a customer of Care of Trees for years. The quality of the work done by their trimming crew was fine, but problems with scheduling and poor communications from the office and the arborist made it very difficult to get any service at all. It took over three months from our first call until we finally got our trees pruned. We made multiple calls, including one to the regional office which I think is what finally got us on the schedule. Otherwise we would still be waiting. I would try Kramer Tree Specialists instead.
