Made an appointment a few weeks ago to see a dermatologist to look at a few spots I’ve been worried about. I have fair skin and my sister has had some spots removed and biopsied so I decided it was time to head in. This is part of the DuPage Medical Group so I knew my insurance would work here. Making the appointment was a breeze. Called in with no problems, but if you wanted to be seen rather soon I think you’d be out of luck. I figured with it being the end of the year and over the holidays it would be hard so I understood when the next available wasn’t until early January. No biggie for me though. I parked in the parking garage which also is the parking lot for the Hotel Arista — at least there were places reserved for their valet service in there — as well as the coffee shop, golf pub, and The Dermatology Institute. I parked on the fourth floor during the week, didn’t know this area would be such a popular parking destination! The office is clean and looks like it is extremely well run. Dr. Desai saw me and took her time with me and answered my questions — never felt rushed. She suggested I come back every 1.5 years or so to get checked. Thankfully there was nothing to worry about today! Will be back in about a year and a half(probably two since I like to round up).

At my appointment I was told I’d be called with the results of my biopsy, but because of the upcoming(Christmas) holiday, there may be a delay and not to worry. That’s easy to say, but difficult to do. Still, I was patient(all the while having coworkers, students, and family asking me for updates). After 2 weeks I was getting antsy, so called and left a message. In doing so, you’re prompted to record certain information: «State your name and hit the # key; State your doctor and hit the # key; State the reason for your call and hit the # key,» etc. The PA-C who did the procedure called me back within a few hours, but apparently the«reason» for my call wasn’t relayed, because she had no idea why I had called. After that bit of awkwardness, she said she was surprised no one had called me with the biopsy results. They were negative. The end. I mean, that’s great and all, but here I was a bit anxious(while trying not to be, but my mind goes 20 steps ahead and into the«what ifs» pretty easily) the whole time, waiting like I was told. The next day I went to my mom’s to find a letter from them stating the negative results. Again, great… but a phone call — like I was told I’d receive — would have been much, much better. I mean… this relates to skin CANCER, which I’ve had(the deadliest kind, mind you) — probably should be a little higher on the«Let’s make sure we follow up with the patient like we said we would» List. Disappointing.

It’s a little overwhelming to go to the Dermatology Institute @ DMG. It’s a medical facility, and I’m getting treated for a medical issue, but it feels like I’m in some sort of Sex and the City Meets Alpha Naperville Mom /Need To Get Rid Of My Wrinkles So I Can Look Like A 30 Year Old MILF Forever Spa. Which is really awkward when I’m getting treated for acne because I apparently have the complexion of a 12-year-old. I feel a little bit like I’m told to purchase expensive products to keep my complexion in good shape, and apparently none of the prescription topical meds they prescribe are generic(srsly?). However I also can see how the products are generally beneficial. So I guess I can see Evil Big Pharma Corporate Medical Overlords vs. this stuff may actually be useful and sometimes good stuff costs money. However, I go to a medical doctor to see a dermatologist because I can’t afford fancy spas. So I guess I’m on the fence about this place. I’ll probably come back and re-rate with 5 stars once my acne goes away and people stop mistaking me for a teenager! Otherwise, it’s what you can expect from most DMG offices. Everything runs very smoothly, everything is clean, everyone is professional and nice, etc. Your mileage may vary depending on your insurance plan.

I went to this place for a «free» cosmetic evaluation and walked out $ 900.00 poorer! After the facial evaluation, to which he didnt even listen to my concerns he whips out liquid nitrogen and starts spraying spots on my arms which turned into huge blisters and looked horrible the next day on my new job! Mind you, he didn’t even ask if I wanted that done! You see, this way he turns a «free» visit into an expensive service and gets his money! When the billing clerk saw my arms she about fainted and pretty much apologized for what just happened. She looked embarassed. DONOTGOHERE! Oh and when they found out my insurance would only cover $ 400.00 of it they reduced their fee… LOL! Horrible doctor practice!

These folks are best in class! I don’t know how many of my friends that live in the city like me make the journey or to see these guys but we all believe it is worth the commute to be seen by top talent. The clinic is massive, busy and had every latest technology and procedure out there. These folks know what they are doing, from surgery to treatment, botox, vein therapy you name it, they are masters. There front of house reception, nurses etc are the sweetest, kindest most helpful professional bunch I’ve seen anywhere. For those fortunate enough to live in the western suburbs, lucky you!

The doctor assistant was super nice with me then the doctor came into the room saying that it’s possible to resolve my problem but it’s not covered by health insurance(with that face of you can’t afford it). The doctor left the room then his assistant started treating like a homeless or poor person. The doctor and his assistant were quite rude. They made me feel like I don’t belong to that place. With regards the treatments almost nothing is covered by health insurance even if I have very good benefits. It’s should be called Beauty, aesthetics or spa institute but dermatological institute.

Okay, so while I love the level of care and how they’ve made my face look post-skin cancer, I’m annoyed with their billing antics. I paid $ 800 for cosmetic surgery to laser on my face… and then scheduled a followup appt. to make sure all was well with the laser I just paid a load of cash to have done. I called before coming in to that appt. as I felt it looked good and wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting charged. She told me I wasn’t because it was a follow-up to a cosmetic procedure I paid out-of-pocket for. I went in and was nonchalantly talking with the doctor about my lasered areas(one being my skin cancer scar) and said that sometimes it breaks out with tiny pimples and if that was normal… as a result of the cosmetic laser. He looked at it and diagnosed me with something. Because he gave me an(untreatable) diagnosis, I was charged $ 40 for that appt., even though it was my followup and not a new concern. Still annoyed. Make sure you are careful in speaking about finances and what you ask for. It’s pretty ridick that I’d be charged for him to tell me the little pimples(using a fancy term) are normal as a result of the surgery I’ve had. BS I tell you. I’ll still go back because they did a nice job when all is said and done, but I just hate being nickel and dimed about every little thing.

«If I see something saggin’, baggin’, or draggin’, I’m gone have it nipped, tucked, or sucked!» — Dolly Parton I can SO get on board with that, Miz Dolly! Thanks to the Dermatology Institute of Naperville, Dr. Hsu keeps my forehead from drooping into eyebrows and my lips from capsizing under any wrinkles and esthetician Melissa Seneczko keeps me glowing with silk peels and Latisse eyelash lengthening. The office here is amazing, so clean, so welcoming, they always have treats and the staff are always smiling and genuinely wanting to help. It’s easy to make appointments and get the times you want. They run specials on products and services every month. Last month I got the amazing clarisonic brush for way under cost, in February I got a discount for joining their facebook page, and in January I got their beauty day special on Juvederm, Botox, Latisse, and Silk Peels. It’s a one stop shop for feeling great and looking your best. I’ve been a regular at the institute for a little over a year now and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Hsu is so smart(and let’s not forget handsome) and I LOVE that he will spend so much time with you. The first time I came here I was shocked because I’d never spent that much one on one time with a Dr. ever– not even when I got my appendix out. I remember back in the old days always thinking about how much money I’d just spent for the Dr to spend less than 3 minutes with me and go on her merry way– not at the Dermatology Institute. My favorite thing about Dr. Hsu is how he always repeatedly asks, «anything else?». It’s great because in one appointment I can go from having an issue with a brow wrinkle and end up asking him questions for 30 more minutes about ridiculous requests ranging from dry skin to melanoma to any shots that could move my cheek fat to where my eyes are. I love that Dr. Hsu isn’t a pusher either– there’s no pressure to buy anything, they don’t work like that. Simply put, I’m a fool for Dr. Hsu. Esthetician, Melissa Seneczko might be my one true love. First, she’s GORGEOUS(think brunette Amanda Seyfried), second, she’s the nicest person ever. I like to think of her as a person who just has a lot of love to give, and that’s why she does what she does. I always feel loved and gorgeous when I leave(even though I’m usually pink and shiny from my peel). The music is always relaxing and Melissa’s voice is so soothing. She fully explains everything to you and talks you through the steps she’s taking during your facial or peel. Since seeing her for the past year, I’ve seen vast improvements in the condition and tone of my once overly tanned dermal layer. I’ve referred both my boyfriend and my mother, who now swears by Melissa for correcting any skin discoloration and smoothing fine lines. PS– they have a great referral bonus so be sure to tell your friends. I know I have to get old at some point, but thanks to the Dermatology institute, I can postpone that for as long as possible.
