Possibly not, after June of 2013 because of the recent federal budget cuts! The FAA planned to close this towers funding here in May but the Naples Airport Authority threatened to go to court and it bought them another 30 days. So the verdict is still out.
Not many small airports have a control tower, in fact approximately 10% of small municipal airports have a tower. The fear is if this tower closes then some flights will no longer land here anymore. Those flights would probably go to Ft Myers RSW airport.
So the tower is important for this airport but it may be closed in the next 6 weeks.
This poor little airport is so cute but it keeps going backwards. I remember when the American Eagle flights use to land here but that hasn’t happened in a while. My favorite is the outdoor baggage pickup complete with mini conveyor belt.
Currently the tower stands strong at the airport. It is a fully functional control tower keeping the air traffic safe and moving. But that could all change in the next month.
