Had dinner this past Sat nite and I loved the atmosphere and popovers! However, the beef stroganoff and Steak Diane entrees were too salty for my taste. Could not finish my entrée.

Such a nice place. Casual but with a nice ambience. Steak is a great dish. More than enough to share. Salads are awesome.

Well I had another amazing meal at Hennings — the pork chop was cooked perfectly and Brett the bartender/owner was really very nice to speak with as I had dinner at the bar. Truly a great meal and I would highly recommend it.

This place was such a lovely surprise. We went off of a recommendation by some locals we sat next to at a brewery in Calicoon since we had no idea where to go for dinner. Set above a former gas station, the restaurant is massive inside yet with the wooden bar, chandeliers and reclaimed wood interior, it feels very cozy and intimate. But the FOOD is the star! We got the caesar salad, pork chop and BBQ hanger steak(sauce on the side definitely recommended for the steak. Everything was prepared perfectly and I loved the curry and baked cheese on my pork chop! The sides are just as amazing so well paired with the dishes. Too bad there isn’t a Henning’s Local in NYC!

We visited Henning’s Local as a party of 6 on Saturday evening for a birthday dinner. Although it’s a bit odd that their building is attached to a gas station, the restaurant itself is gorgeous inside and out; their décor and lighting makes the place comfy and rustic, yet still classy. Their bread and radish butter for the table is delicious and unique, and overall I can speak only positively of everything ordered. If you like fish you must try the salmon cakes, they are amazing. I ordered the kjøtballer(Swedish meatballs with lingonberry preserves served with mashed potatoes and roasted seasonal vegetables)– absolutely delicious and a nice balance of sweet and savory. Their steak Diane which my friend ordered was very tender and their cognac sauce was wonderful. We also had the beef lindstrom– definitely a different sort of dish but still tasty especially if you enjoy pickled foods. I would also recommend their macaroni and cheese. We didn’t have dessert because we had a cake at home but I bet that would’ve been great also. I would recommend this restaurant especially if you are traveling into the area. It is also fairly priced.

They have the best steak. My bf and I traveled from Brooklyn twice just to get their delicious steak that melts in your mouth. The new location isn’t as cozy but still very nice

Unfortunately my sister and I never got to eat here. Went in on a busy Saturday night(we knew we would probably have to wait) and was not even greeted. We went to the bar so we could order a drink and maybe tell the bartender we wanted a table and to put us on the list. We sat there for about 25 mins with ZERO service. Might give it a try again someday, it’s beautiful inside and the menu looks awesome.

Fantastic Farm to Table restaurant. Culinarily French countryside/New American cuisine locally grown ingredients. Trout, Chateaubriand, ribeye, lamb chops to die for! House made pâté! Popovers with Radish butter! What? What? This is a special restaurant and let’s pray it stays that way. What’s on «the plate» is always delicious, fresh, and meant to be there. You can definitely feel the expression of the chef and eat how he would prefer it prepared, cooked, and presented on the plate. This is a good thing. Pricing is similar to Lower NYC prices. The front of house staff may need a little tune up, but that doesn’t matter as much when the food going out the window is made with such attention and passion. Love that this special place sits above a gas station. Hopefully it throws off the bad clientele. :) keep up the good work!

The new location doesn’t quite have the same cozy charm as the previous one, but all in all this is still my favorite restaurant in Sullivan County. I’ve had my birthday dinner and other special occasions celebrated at Hennings, and the menu really is unparalleled for the area. I had the duck, which was served with toasted quinoa cake and kale. The meat was cooked to perfection and I had no idea quinoa could be that good. Pro tip: fry it. My mom had the lamb lollipops with mashed potatoes and kale. The lamb was a little rare for her liking, but I loved it and ate more than a little of her dinner. The mashed potatoes are amazing. It was our waitress’ first day so the service was a little rough, but the food more than made up for it. Can’t wait to come back.

Located next to a Mobil Station as you make your way up the drive way past the General Store you notice there is a phone booth at the entrance and wonder what the décor will be about… The building is new and impressive and walking in to the expansive space it is the feeling of a modern renovated barn– chandeliers with tree branches hang from lofty rafters and make the place shiny. Squeezing past the cramped bar(that really really needs to be re thought as you have to literally nudge your way through to the exit) you come into the huge space with so much room. It kind of feels like they ran out of furniture but it also is kind of pleasant to have that space. It reminded me of my Aunt Mary’s country kitchen. The food was delicious and hazardous. Farm to table but not before drowned in butter, fried, creamed and disguised as much as they could. We tend to love that kind of food but I’m more sensitive to it as I eat more and more clean. It is good olé country style cooking and feel good food. But you can’t eat The wine was vinegary :(but since I didn’t drink any I didn’t turn it back otherwise I would have. Ok… Now the real Issue I had that tinges my viewpoint… The staff and general oversight of the management. We arrived at 6:45 got appetizers at 8pm and in that interim there were no refills offered on wine or even bread until we asked for it. The bearded fellow at the entrance doesn’t give a hoot as to whether they were grossly understaffed in the dining room and kitchen and frankly was not much help until later into the evening like 9pm. It’s a lovely place and a good time is had but I don’t think I will return unless I’m sure it is staffed and supervised effectively. Oh… I had to ask the kitchen staff to turn in the lights at the entrance as we made our way into the pitch black country night down the steps…

Had my Birthday dinner here last night. At first, I was taken back by new location that also is part of a Mobil station. Last location was in the woods and very rustic. Thought that was an odd choice. We waited about 20 mins later than reservation. They should have just told us it would be 20 mins so we could have sat down, also an odd choice . Once we sat down though. After waiter finally came over 10 mins later, we loved our bread, salads, pâté, duck, sesame trout and steak Diane. Food was GREAT! A very welcomed addition to Sullivan county! I would say get the seating situation in check and also hire more waiters with more fine dining experience too. A sense of urgency is not there at all. If I paying $ 28 an entrée should be better service. The minute I sit I should have water especially after waiting 20 mins for table. Food was worth the management issues though. Loved all of our food and room is beautiful! Just close blinds where you can see Mobil station.

Lovely, delicious food. We tried 2 salads, 3 entrées and 3 desserts. All outstanding. 2 little«complaints» #1: the flavored butter served with the pop-overs was just not enough for them, they are huge! #2: the acoustics make it easy to hear the conversation of the people at the neighboring table, but difficult to hear your own dinner party members. Too many hard surfaces causes too much noise reverberation. BUT the Steak Diane was incredibly tender, the Skirt Steak also done to perfection with perfect mash and chard sides. The Quinoa cakes were crispy and delectable. We will return…

How on earth did we find this fabulous farm to table restaurant in the middle of nothing and nowhere 68 miles south west of us? A Unilocaler talked about it in a review of one of my favorite restaurants Peekamoose Restaurant & Tap Room, comparing the two and I just had to see for myself. The drive down from northern Ulster was lovely, we took back roads that lead us through gorgeous scenery and Peekamoose trailheads and funky Sullivan County Towns. The new location is very nice, funky décor and big windows all around. I was a little surprised we weren’t eating on a lake as we saw in photos so if you’re looking for them in the Unilocal listed location, they moved. We were greeted by the lovely restauranteur who gave me great recommendations as we perused the cohesive and mouth watering menu. Our meal started off with gorgeous, crispy and light popovers with radish butter, mmmm I had a lovely NYS glass of Pinot Gris and we were off. The chicken liver pâté with pickled ramps and homemade mustard was rich and delicious, on crispy toasted bread. There was no shame in the mount of finger dipping and plate licking(goes for the entire meal), we left nothing behind. I went for the ‘fish’ and tried the Beaverkill Trout crusted with black and white sesame seeds and a soy burre blanc, and wow, it was heavenly. The crispy crusted skin on fish with the rich and elegant sauce was such a divine combination. My companion went for the Steak Diane which was really yummy, fabulous red sauce, perfectly cooked filet, so good. We finished off our meals with locally roasted coffees and my favorite, crème brule(not photographed because I had to dive in as soon as it arrived at the table. It was perfect except, so heavenly, wow. More bowl licking ensued. On a side note, my fussy eating child had the burger which was seasoned beautifully and cooked to the perfect medium rare temperature. I used his fries to sop up what was left of the sauce on my plate. They were crispy shoe strings, just the way fries should be. While it was clearly a journey to get there and back, it was well worth the trip. Just a few miles from Bethel Woods, we’re plotting our next trip down in the not too distant future.
