At the suggestion of my husband who stopped in for lunch one time, we decided to order take out for dinner. We typically go to Cheng Young Li but it’s pricey and thought this would be worth a try. We ordered all our regular stuff and my husband and daughter were very happy with it. On the other hand my egg foo tasted fishy(it was the veggie version) and came with very little gravy/sauce. I didn’t care for the rice and the duck sauce was super watery. Basically I thought the food sucked, but I also am not a Chinese food fan by any means so maybe this is why I didn’t care for it. The 3 stars is basically a reflection of my entire family’s opinion because it would be a 1 – 2 star on food quality alone for me.

98 To Go is a small Chinese restaurant in a strip mall on Amherst St. From the outside it looks like it would be a typical«menu with pictures» cheap and greasy take out spot. The food is much better than that. The lunch and dinner specials are cheap and come with a ton of food butare not that great. I recommend the Wonton Soup which has home made dumplings, sliced pork and cabbage. It is far better that the soup served at the fancy place down the st. The dumpling appetizer is home made and not your typical 5 or 6 pre-made frozen Peking Dumplings that most places serve. All the noodle dishes that I have tried have had fresh cut veggies and high quality meats. The menu is extensive and I am rarely disappointed. I really must stress that the lunch and dinner combos are not the best however ordering off the regular menu will definitely satisfy your Chinese Food craving.

The food at 98 to go is hit or miss. I used to go there a couple of times a month since the late 90’s. The food portions were always much bigger than anything you’d find in surrounding Chinese takeout places. I would get the«make your own» combo or one of the pre-made combos. The meat appetizers would usually be massive and I could live with the fact that the rice tasted so burned about half the time that I couldn’t eat it. At least I knew that whether I got a combo platter or a pre-made combo I’d be full on the main course and wouldn’t worry about the rice whatever its’ condition. So I stopped going there for about 6 months and started going to a 70’s style place up the street. Little more expensive and a little farther away but it was pretty good Chinese food. The last few weeks I started going back to 98 to go to give them another chance. So far I’ve been pretty disappointed. The portions on the main courses have been cut by approximately one third. Tonight’s meal: Wife ordered shrimp with lobster sauce. Rice was burned and too salty as was the lobster sauce. She got about four(41 – 50 size) shrimp on with the meal. I got kung pao beef. Meal was about 1⁄3rd down from their normal size. I thought my rice was good by what I usually expect from them. What ticked me off though was that they cut back on the number of boneless spareribs down to 5 from 6(and no they weren’t extra thick 5). Last order before this, they did the same thing with the boneless spare ribs on my make your own combo. I hope they take a look at their reviews and get back to their roots of giving lots of food for the money spent.

More recent visits have been better. Some dishes don’t suck. But you’re better off driving another five minutes to mandarin or a few more to lilac blossom.

98 to go is not the place for you if you want fancy ambiance. They do have a couple of small tables, but they are more focused on take out. If you want a good quantity of OK Chinese food at a reasonable price, this is the place. The dumplings are smaller than most of the other places in the area, but you get more of them. They serve all day meal combinations, typical of what you see in other Chinese places in the area. Quality/quantify is better than most of the other«take out» Chinese food places I’ve tried in the area. They have a number of Thai noodle selections that you would not find on your more traditional Chinese menu. This is the place I tend to go if I just want to grab some quick Chinese take out. If I have time for a sit down meal, I would normally go elsewhere.

Again crap service today. Ordered take out purposely cause it was raining out. Ordered at 5:30 showed up at 7:00pm. The food was all soggie & cold. Called them back & they said cause all of Nashua was ordering & will only issue half a refund of $ 12.00, but you will have to come down & get it. So that justifies shitty service… 2nd time happening will not be using them ever again.

I have had take out from 98 To Go many times over the last year. Yes they are cheap and have big portions, but bigger is not always better. Every time I have had their food it has been super greasy and light on the protein(chicken, shrimp etc). Thanks for the extra veggies but i would rather have an equal ratio to meat to veggies not a 3:1 ratio of tiny amount of meat and over 75% of the container being undercooked veggies =/ I would spend the extra cash to get quality food from Lilac Blossom right down the road, worth the time and extra cash to get the great food with reasonable portions. Otherwise if you are a broke college student who doesn’t know care about how your food tastes but would rather get a massive portion, this is the place for you.

98 Restaurant is located along Amherst Street(westbound) in a strip plaza(east end) with tight parking, across the street from Building 191⁄15. This cozy takeout place with open kitchen serves up good tasting Chinese food at reasonable prices. They offer 12 luncheon specials($ 4.95-$ 7.75, served Mon-Sat) and 28 all day dinner specials($ 5.95-$ 8.25) at reasonable prices with good portions. Complementary hot tea is available while you wait. The L10($ 6.25): Crab Rangoons, Chicken Fingers, Chicken Teriyakis & Vegetable Lo Mein(or pork fried rice) is my favorite combination platter. The food is a bit on the greasy side, but nonetheless tasty. The chicken teriyaki sticks have very tender lean white meat chicken. The crab rangoons have a very dense and creamy cream cheese filling with crispy skins. The chicken fingers have all white meat chicken with the right amount of crispy batter. The vegetable lo mein has a good mix of vegetables(carrots, green peppers, onions, sprouts, mushrooms(canned), baby corn, water chestnuts, & bamboo shoots) with firm noodles. The service has been prompt and friendly each time I’ve been here for takeout. CLOSED on Mondays DELIVERY($ 18 minimum)

Fast, inexpensive takeout with good egg rolls. Good vegetable chow mein, and ginormous combo dishes. Fancy schmancy? No. Quick and easy? Yes.
