Just came in for the first time. What has kept me away was the fact that they don’t have entrees under $ 20, but I did get a deal on Groupon and thought it was time to check it out. Let me say I’m glad I came in All the food was very fresh and tasty(probably the best duck I ever had). I was a little worried because there was only one waitress on(Tuesday night) but she had a handle of things and service was good as well. Anyway this is a great place and worth checking out.

My family and I came here with a Unilocal deal($ 25 for $ 50). The food was good but not great. I would definitely not come back if I had to pay standard prices. We ordered a scallop salad, the cioppino seafood stew, and a steak. The steak was the most disappointing — dry with no flavor. The scallop salad and cioppino stew had good flavors going on but the seafood definitely seemed frozen, not fresh. The décor and atmosphere is really nice but I did get the feeling that the restaurant was relying a bit on these«smoke and mirrors» to cover up the fact that the food is just mediocre.

Frankly, average for the cost. Good atmosphere for what you’d expect, but for the money, a couple cracks in the façade for food, beverage and service. If your going to get top dollar, be prepared to step up and show no gap between ambition and reality. By the way, I could have done better with a dollar fifty and a 7 – 11 than going with the pistachio pound cake for 10. Great idea though. We had a good time.

Surf and turf was done perfectly, great sauces at this place, big points on ambiance, service, drinks… this place is a diamond in the rough!

After a successful meal at Unum’s earlier in the year, my wife and I decided to head back and couldn’t have been more disappointed. It was a Friday night around 7:30 — 9:00. The place was around 50% full when we started and only had a couple of people when we left. For the price, I expected more across the board. The service was horrible, the food overcooked and a few of the items we wanted to order were no longer available. Our waitress seemed to lose interest in us once we decided to not order an appetizer. Keeping in mind we tried to order an appetizer but it wasn’t available. We ordered the Seafood Cioppino($ 40) and a Seabass special($ 40). We were offered bread on three separate occasions but had to ask the busboy for it. It arrived when after we were already done eating our entrees. It was cold, hard and stale. Most of the seafood in the Cioppino was overcooked. The large shrimp were harder than the bread. At least half of the clams/mussels did not open. The seabass was cooked very well but it was a very small piece. For $ 40 I would have expected it to be more than a 2-inch square. I really wanted a nice piece of bread to soak up the sauce but as I mentioned earlier, it never arrived. The waitress dropped off our food and wasn’t seen again until our meal was complete. She only came back to see if we wanted dessert. Only two dessert items were available at that time. We left very disappointed and will not be back. I was tempted to leave without tipping but decided on 10%. Probably the lowest % tip I’ve ever given. I’m sure the waitress will blame the low tip on us never actually thinking her and her restaurant were to blame

This is a hidden gem, a top notch restaurant. It is on a side street and would never expect such a nice restaurant in this location. The atmosphere is very romantic with unique décor on the walls for decoration. The lighting and noise level makes for a perfect date night. You can see the chefs cooking from your table with the beautiful open kitchen style. Our appetizers and meals were delicious and steaks cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back here again and recommend to any of our family and friends.

This place is the biggest rip off. We went with a Groupon(who wouldn’t with the prices they charge). We ordered our dinners and we both got the Ribeye. My menu said it was $ 40, my friends said it was $ 45. Waitress said«oh it’s $ 45»(of course it was!). I said, well my menu says $ 40 and I believe you should honor that price. Was told to talk to the manager. Dinner came, was mediocre at best(no way worth $ 45) and check came with $ 45 for each steak.(The $ 45 steak was actually abot ½″ thick if that, and burnt to a crisp. It was accompanied by 3 spears of asparagus and about ¼ Cup of mashed potatoes.) Asked for the manager. Was told he wasn’t available. Ok, so who can I talk to about the price difference. Was told that she was in charge and she already told us that the correct price was $ 45. She started to argue with us about«it’s only $ 10AND you used a Groupon.» Really? Yeah. we did use a groupon that UNUMS put out there!!! Asked for the manager again and was told to provide our name and phone number and he’ll call. Again, we are here right now and want the $$ off of our bill and he’s going to call? Is there really a manager and is he really there? It was unbelievable. Finally she reluctantly said that the hidden manager took the $ 10 off the bill, but like I said, not with out an argument. Her attitude was reflected in her tip for sure. We wont be back. Who needs to be treated like that. First lesson — go through your menus if you had a price change and be consistent!!!

Ate there tonight, duck was over cooked(medium well, was told medium rare) and they seared the wrong side. The fat and skin where still soft, chewy and gross. Noticed the couple at the next table looking and reacting the same way as I to their duck which was prepared the same way. Daughters steak was also over done, asked for medium it was well past well done. Wife’s fish was slightly undercooked, figures! Risotto that came with duck had a bottle of lemon juice dumped on it, basically unetible. The service was slow but this appeared to be associated with under staffing not lack of trying. All in all the atmosphere was nice, the menu shows promise the cook just needs to learn how to make the food. One last thing Nashua, Birkenstocks and shorts are not appropriate wear for fine dining!

Good food but the bartender, waitress and chef/owner were very rude. The bartender didn’t know what a Sazerac was! They didn’t have absinthe, herbsaint or Pernod. At these prices you would expect elegance and stellar service. Don’t bother.

Yum! Absolutely delicious. Great atmosphere and the manager is so respectable. He helped the bus boys but also offered wine in such a professional manner. The steak was perfectly cooked and the seafood dish was FULL. A whole lobster tail, massive tender scallops, mussels and shrimp. I would recommend this place to anyone! It’s in a rough part of town though, so don’t bring the Beamer.

My second time here and the food was still good. I had a living social deal. If you use a living social deal there are restrictions that I wish they would have mentioned. When I did make a reservation which is required for the deal I told them I had a voucher. The voucher did include drinks, but no where does it state it is for house drinks and beer. It just said there were restrictions but none were stated. It really wouldn’t have made a difference because I would have still ordered my dirty martini. The deal was still a steal. I did look at the menu before I left and I have to say it wasn’t exactly up to date. I always look online before going to a restaurant because I am so picky. Only one menu item wasn’t on there, which happen to be the menu item I wanted. It was a chicken dish with some risotto. For a starter we got the special — vegetable spring rolls with a «spicy sauce». I have to say I wouldn’t get these again. There were barely any vegetables inside and they were so small they were the size of my ring finger. The dipping sauce however was really good but not at all spicy. But I like spicy food the hotter the better. If they beefed up the rolls they would be really good. But it was like just eating fried crunchy dough. Even though they did not have the chicken dish I wanted when we got there, I did get the dish that was in it’s place which was a chicken carbonara, which I will say was delicious. I loved the sauce and it was a huge portion. I really liked it and would order it again. My husband got the sea bass and his was really good and he had wasabi mashed potatoes which he thought was yummy. Service was fine. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad to say either. The bread was delicious too, they gave us some focaccia bread and it was yum. I still like this place, the place inside is nice and cozy and the food is still yummy, will keep going back!

Unfortunately, I’ve had too many disappointing meals from Unum’s to let them go unreviewed any longer. OVERPRICED, Low Quality Cooking, Poor presentation and plating. I got the seared sesame tuna and my date got the shrimp carbonara. No drinks and the eggplant appetizer(which was delicious). Bill was $ 75 before tip. I don’t mind paying for quality but there were just too many dissapoinents with the meal for it to be anywhere near worth it. Save your money, got to Villa Banca 1 block away.

Even though we had made a reservation, there was still 10 – 15 minute wait for our table to be set up. I liked how there was seating on two levels. The lights in the room were dimmed and candles were placed on every table. It was considerably loud because people were watching sports. For appetizers, we ordered Bacon Jam Scallops and Roasted Beets and Mozzarella Salad to share. The scallops were tender, quite flavorful, and had a spicy kick to them. We enjoyed the beets salad, which was served with greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette and garnished with spiced pecans. For entrees, we ordered Surf and Turf(which was cooked to perfection), Chilean Sea Bass(which was lightly battered), and Rainbow Trout(which was lightly salted). We ended dinner with a Raspberry Sorbet(which was quite refreshing).

The atmosphere, décor, bar and tables are beautifully crafted, lovely and high class. We were dressed up, but also saw people in jeans and shorts. The food really shines. One of the best meals we’ve had. We absolutely loved the Roasted Oysters, Grilled Romaine Salad and our waiter, Walter, suggested the«off menu» Surf and Turf, an 8 oz. filet with three huge perfectly cooked scallops covered in lobster cream sauce. This is a dish you dream about but is rarely executed well. That was not the case at Unum’s. The dessert list is very limited, with only three items, one of which, the Crème brûlée, wasn’t available, but they had a substitution of a Chocolate Marscapone Mousse, which was light and fluffy. Great dinner!

I’d give this 2.5 if I could, but I don’t think it deserves 3, so 2 it is. I’ve heard good things about Unums and have wanted to try it since it opened, so when Living Social had a deal, I grabbed it. I’ve now been here twice and am not thrilled. The first time was New Year’s Eve. We didn’t have plans and didn’t want to go anywhere with an overpriced menu and crazy atmosphere. I checked the website and it said they were open, so I made a reservation through Open Table. I looked at the electronic version of my living social coupon to see if there were any exclusions about holidays, and there were none, so off we went. We were seated promptly and I told the waitress I had my living social coupon. She said, «you can’t use it tonight. It says right on it no holidays.» I didn’t want to make a big deal and figured that maybe it was on the paper version(checked when I got home, and it was NOT on there). We get the menu — it’s a special menu for New Years and there are exactly 3 entrees, at least two of which were likely made ahead and reheated(lasagna and Osso Buco). There had been no mention of a modified menu for the evening on their website, and I thought this was rather poor form. I had the Osso Buco which itself was quite tasty, but the side of carrots were raw, not just underdone. My husband said the lasagna was good and the service was adequate. But I still have the living social deal to use, so back we went tonight. I was fine with writing off the New Years experience and was hopeful of a better experience tonight. We were not impressed with our waiter, who kicked off the meal with«How youse guys doin?» We both had the roasted pear salads which were missing the candied pecans advertised and whose«caramelized shallots» were anemic at best. I had the duck which came with broccolini(again, not quite done), sweet potato mashed with bacon and bleu cheese(which was okay, but strikes me as a sort of odd combo) and«warm fruit compote» which I could swear was jarred apple sauce. My husband had a surf & turf special which was filet mignon and lobster tail with a lobster cream sauce. It was pricey at $ 50, and my husband believes the lobster tail was frozen. Not acceptable for that price. To top it off service was not great. My husband ordered a second glass of wine when dinner came — lucky him, because after that we didn’t see the waiter again until he came to clear the table. So, while there were glimmers of hope in both meals, they weren’t significant enough to make us want to go back and give it another try.

How do you start a review where you really like the ambience, the people, & the wine but the food fails? I guess just start there… We came in for 6 pm reservations and were sat promptly at a nice table. Extensive wine and martini menu. We ordered a Malbec suggested by the waiter and it didn’t disappoint. It was fairly quiet when we got there, so the service was great. Until it got busy… To start, we had a delicious fresh bread with a dipping oil. Spicy because of the peppers in it, but I loved it. We ordered the appetizer special which were Scallops in a puff pastry shell and a fried ravioli. The scallops were amazing… the ravioli was tough. definitely tough and not much flavor. It didn’t take long for the waiter to come back and take our dinner order. My husband ordered a Seafood Cioppino dish and I order the Lamb. Had I known it was going to take almost an hour to get our food, I probably could have fun a few errands, come back, and had another bottle of wine. We could tell from where we were sitting there was a ton of confusion with the orders going in and coming out. When we finally got our food… mine was cold. My husband loved his dish. My lamb was dry… and tasteless. First. please please PLEASEEEE don’t overcook lamb!!! It’s supposed to be medium rare and mine was borderline well done(this is why is loses flavor and becomes dry). I was so disappointed because cooked right, lamb is amazing. Potatoes were mashed with blue cheese and I think had they been hot, they would have been awesome. Even my asparagus was cool… I think it’s because my dish was done and sat for a bit before my husbands was ready. Either way, it was disappointing. By the time we were done, the place was pretty busy, with larger parties coming in. It took our waiter another 20 minutes to come back to us(I know the poor dude was busy. it was just a lot of waiting with no one coming back to even check on whether we wanted more wine. only the poor guys who kept pouring our water kept coming back… kudos to him!). I still think the place itself is a nice date night place. But it IS super pricey, and we don’t mind paying for great food… if it’s great. The lamb definitely wasn’t worth what we paid, and we opted out of dessert afraid we’d be there another hour. Staff IS friendly, but when they get busy, they seem to zone out a bit, a little confused on where to go next and what to do. I think we’d go back for maybe a night at the bar… which was packed. but not a full sit down dinner(however, my hubby might disagree with me on this;)) All in all… not a bad experience, but not a great one either.

Usually Unilocal is pretty good to me with reviews. In addition, I heard from some friends about how good this place was. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t go so well. The restaurant itself is nice. It’s off the main drag tucked away a bit, so parking wasn’t too bad. The décor inside was cute, and had the right amount of lighting. So far so good. Our service was not so great. At all. The server had a weird attitude, as if we were nagging her. I didn’t like that at all. I felt the menu was a little limited. My wife got the hangar steak which was overcooked. The manager came by after we got the second portion to confirm that it was cooked correctly. I had the swordfish with chimichuri sauce and liked it. I just wasn’t wowed by the place. The terrible attitude from the server was a major turn off. And the limited menu selection left me wanting more.

This place was excellent. Had friends up from Boston and decided to go here based on Unilocal reviews more than anything else. Started with a few martinis. 10 – 14 $ each, but were excellent. All of them were top notch. Started with the scallops as well as lobster Rangoon aps. Plainly put… EXCELLENT! Then to main courses, we ran the gambit, hangar steak, filet mignon, seared duck breast and chicken statler. Everything was seasoned very well, flavors popped from the plate, creative combinations. Only issue was one of the entrees was not cooked as desired, but the waiter(more to come later) resolved this immediately, without question and made things better. Dessert, at this point we split the Raspberry Chocolate cake which was excellent as well, and the portion was very good! We ordered a bottle of wine and were quickly told it was out of stock, so we looked for another. The drink menu as well as wine menu were extensive, almost overwhelming, but definitely drinks to suit all tastes. a Menus are straight forward, including dessert menu. It is good to see places able to refine what they do well, and not try to reinvent the wheel or do 75 different things ½ way well. Kudos for this. Lastly, our waiter was fantastic. Very good personality, knowledgeable about the menu, items, able to share information on all of the dishes as well as personal opinions(and no, he didn’t always suggest picking the most expensive thing on the menu). While the prices are similar to places like Surf, Buckleys, Villa Banca and other downtown hot spots, the excellent menu, and great service we received have certainly made a quick impact to have us come back in the near future!

Beautiful place! I used open table to make my reservation and I mentioned it being my anniversary(I wanted a more quiet table). They not only wished us a happy anniversary upon our arrival, but also gave us the quiet table, all alone, in the corner. It was perfect! The food was delicious! We ordered two appetizers — the foie gras, and a scallops on bok choy special. The foie gras was seasoned and cooked perfectly, it was served on a crostini, with cheese and(if you ask me) too many sauces. It had both a fruit compote and a red wine reduction(balsamic, essentially). The flavors were delicious, but too much on one plate. But trust me, this did NOT stop me from enjoying every bite. The scallops were superbly spiced and cooked well, as well. They brought bread and oil after our appetizers came, which was a little strange, so we didn’t really get to enjoy that part. I ordered the duck entrée, which came with mashed potatoes and a root-vegetable medley. Yum! The veggies had rosemary and lord-knows-what else on them and they were divine! The duck, which I ordered rare, came medium, but was also just delicious. My man had a filet mignon with a mushroom ragout, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. He raved about it! Now, I know that fine-dining establishments make it a point not to have salt & pepper at the table. Your food should come perfectly seasoned and you shouldn’t mess with that. I, however, must have been a hamster in a previous life, and would lick a wheel of salt if allowed. I like my meats and potatoes very salty, and I would have liked a sprinkling on my dish. We finished the meal with a peanut butter cheesecake and cappuccino. Yum! Adorably, they brought us a guest book to sign with the check. It was filled with glowing reviews from people from around the world. I love that! Overall — we loved it. The atmosphere was eclectic, warm, inviting, and modern. The food was delicious and prompt. The service was enthusiastic, attentive, and friendly.

Went here for dinner last night, $ 370 for 6 people, so very reasonable. We had… lobster rangoons, the(all local) cheese platter(goat cheese fudgey yumminess-wow!), scallop apps… They had a nice and interesting wine list, with Malbecs by the glass for under $ 10. Ambiance was great, it was decorated well and tables were spaced so it wasn’t cramped, even though this is a smaller place and easily could be crowded. The bartender greeted us promptly and courteously as we waited at the bar for the rest of our group. I had a cranberry apple salad and the ONLY veg. item on the menu(hence the less one star) which was a lovely presentation on greens of chopped eggplant mixed with rice(I think?) then fried into these little balls. Not healthy, but good. My guests had salmon, salad, salmon and scallops. They all reported that they enjoyed their meals. Desserts were ok, peanut butter cheesecake was what I had and it was ok good but predictably heavy. Our server was a slight blond woman and she was excellent, always there and always checking with us when she was nearby. Parking was easy on the street at 6pm, I would like to come back here and dig deeper into their wine list and apps. For some reason the Crios was on there, both torrontes and rose… favorite wines/grapes of mine but NOT my favorite vineyard… maybe they are local too? Anyway, I’d come back, it was a positive experience and like I said the price was right.
