Wow, what an experience! Food was amazing. Fried chicken and gravy and chipotle rubbed beef tender with hollandaise had me wishing I had two stomachs. Portions were generous and service delightful. Strong wine menu too. A don’t miss for Nashville visitors and locals!

AMOT is excellent. I honestly don’t understand the negative reviews on here, and I’m an extremely picky eater(my working theory is that they had a few hiccups early on that were rectified by the time I tried it). I loved the old dinner menu, and the new meat and three menu is just as good if not better. Extremely tasty and healthy food + large portions(I often get a second meal out of it). AMOT equals or beats Marche and other East Nashville staples, in my view.

My experience was great! I went on a Wednesday night and there was a decent crowd. Service was not the best but they only had one server working the floor. She did the best she could. I had the fried chicken with white gravy and beef tenderloin with a hollandaise sauce. Both were cooked perfectly and the fried chicken was to die for. For sides I had mashed sweet potatoes, roasted cauliflower salad, and yellow squash and zucchini casserole with TN white cheddar. I went with a group so I chose the casserole while the other 2 chose sweet potatoes and cauliflower salad. I loved the casserole and the other 2 sides were ok, not bad but just not my thing. I would have loved to try the arugula salad with melon and goat cheese! The portions were huge for 3 people and for 15 bucks a person, a good price. Definitely will go back!

Not consistent and poor communication. I will not be back. The food takes a really long time and the staff is not always service oriented.

I was there for lunch. The outside eating area was nice. Christina our waitress was friendly and attentive. The BLT — a lot of bacon, little bun, not much lettuce or tomato. The ½ Superfood salad, added grill chicken with Honey Balsamic dressing(on the side) the chicken season was salty. The dressing was good.

I want to like this place, I really do. I just can’t suggest it based on the long wait times from the kitchen, running out of food by noon, and the small, overpriced portions. Their Superfood Salad is a bunch of Spinach with a handful of toppings. The gravy on the Sausage and Biscuits is bland yet overpowered by Sage. However, the cheeseburger juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly to order. Great homemade soups too. Good for Happy Hour and soup but not much else.

Sunday brunch at AMOT was amazing! Short wait even though they were slammed, food was out extremely quick after ordering and so much I couldn’t finish it! Between three of us we tried a little bit of everything. Best part was $ 3 mimosas and $ 5 sangria for Sunday brunch! Servers were all extremely busy but we were never in need of anything, not even water! The gluten free food was amazing and you can’t even tell it’s GF. The taste and quality of the food is second to none! Much try spot!

Came here for brunch on a Monday and it was empty. There was no hostess and no staff to be found when I walked. I stood there for about 6 – 7 minutes when I finally stopped a wandering server and asked if I should have a seat. She said yes and then she didn’t come back for 10 minutes. Did I mention it was empty? All in all, food was okay. I got the chicken and waffles and the waffles were dry. My husband got the eggs Benedict and the eggs were overcooked twice. When the server asked about the food we said the eggs were still overcooked and she just said sorry and walked away. We asked to see a manager and she came out covered in a dirty apron, said nothing about the eggs, then when we told her it was tacky to make us pay for food we didn’t even eat because it was cooked improperly, she said«I told your server to do that» and walked away. Needless to say, there are too many amazing paves to eat in Nashville to bother coming back here.

AMOT had a wonderful vibe when we clicked in for a long brunch here. The breakfast menu was interesting and I was having a particularly picky morning. I think I ended up just with an omelet and a bloody Mary. My friend I was with got the breakfast nachos and mimosas followed by a grapefruit hef. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was friendly and conversational. There weren’t too many other people there and they explained they just changed over their chef. All in all, it was a good experience save the bloody Mary which I didn’t finish. It was pretty lacking in anything of real substance. It didn’t have the nice tart kick you are looking for in a bloody Mary, just mostly the tart sour punch. They used Sake instead of vodka which I was a little disappointed with. I think I would give this place a full five if it wasn’t for the bloody Mary and lack of fresh breakfast food options.

****I’m very disappointed with my most recent trip to AMOT. I brought friends here because I’d been talking it up for a few weeks now. They were out of apple fritters and out of biscuits, but failed to tell us and just brought us eggs Benedict on blueberry bread. Not a good idea or good combination. This situation could have easily been avoided had they just explained the situation and offered the suggestion of a new kind of bread or checked to see if we wanted to change our order. A lot of the food was cold and orders were wrong, my steak was very rare instead of medium, to the point where I had to bring it home and finish cooking it rather than eating it at the restaurant. When the manager came to apologize there was no apology and he said, «well at least we gave you something» the service and food were very subpar and makes me very sad that this was the experience my friends had. Not cool guys*** For a person with celiacs this place is HEAVEN! The entire menu and kitchen is gluten free but you would never know it. Had such a pleasant brunch date here today. I love the atmosphere it’s clean and bright with tons of windows. The menu was diverse which made ordering difficult because everything sounded delicious. My fiancé and I ended up ordering two coffees, the apple fritters to start and eggs Benedict and steak frites for our entrees. The apple fritters we delicious, the syrup that they were served with was incredible and the dough was just delightful. My one critique was that the apples themselves were a little bland. For the entrees the steak was INCREDIBLE! Absolutely delicious, the sweet potato fries that we substituted were okay but nothing spectacular. My eggs Benedict came with hard poached eggs which was a disappointment, BUT our server quickly replaced them with a brand new set up of great runny eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was a little on the lemony side for my taste, but it was still yummy because the biscuit was AMAZING! Overall FANTASTIC atmosphere, customer service(thank you Christina) and concept.

Day 1: We walked in and there was over an hour wait because they were under staffed in the kitchen and the food supply truck never showed up. They were out of eggs. We understood that every dog has his day, so we made a reservation for 9a the next day. Day 2: We showed up at 9a, and the door was locked… as we stood outside the door(in the rain and cold) for 10 minutes. Once we finally got someone to come to door, they proceeded to tell us that they will not be opening until 10a. After leaving our number the day before, you think they would have called us. In result, we didn’t get to eat here because of their unprofessionalism and lack of organization.

The food, atmosphere and staff at A Matter of Taste(AMOT) are fantastic! Since the new chef, Charolette, took over this January I have seen a drastic improvement in the overall menu, order to delivery turnaround and customer demographic. My boyfriend and I live across the street and have been coming here since they opened in East Nashville. They’ve had their ups and downs due to changes in kitchen staff, but I strongly believe they are on the cusp of something great with Charolette as their leader. She, by the way, used to work at The Hermitage and was head chef at the biggest catering company in Nashville before joining AMOT. To put it lightly, her skills are no joke AND she’s a Nashville native to boot! The refreshed menu offers tons of southern classics like chicken fried chicken, shrimp and grits, BLT with pimento cheese, and more. I got to sample the specials last night — pimento cheese with tortilla chips AND homemade meatballs with sautéed kale, beets and carrots — both were so amazing and I think they intend to add it to the menu soon :) Though you can get all food items gluten free, it’s no longer a staple of every dish. Their daily happy hour from 5pm-7pm is also pretty convenient with $ 3 mimosas, $ 5 wine, etc. All that to say, this place is great and I highly suggest giving it a try!

We love this place when they’re open. It’s the third time we’ve checked online before leaving to confirm the hours, shown up, and it’s been closed for whatever reason. Tuesday night may be reason enough but still, it’s not a very good one if you don’t communicate it.

Great place!!! Had the biscuits and gravy, they were a bit dry but the gravy made them perfect!!! Chicken and waffles more like chicken and pancakes, but who cares? The chicken was cooked to perfection!!! Honestly the pancake was good, but I finished the chicken!!! Will definitely be back!!!

Arrived early on a Saturday morning for mimosas, which are super yummy! Available with orange, pineapple or grapefruit juice, 3 $ each. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, a bit tough but still tasty. The hostess and our waitress are very sweet! I love the interior design of the restaurant and how spacious it feels. I look forward to coming here again.

I was really looking forward to making this«my spot». Unfortunately poor service and an overall poor experience has changed my mind. I arrived Saturday around 12:30. There were very few people in the restaurant and one or two at the bar. My friend and I sat at the bar. She ordered a burger and I ordered eggs benedict. 30MINUTESLATER our waitress, who was also the manager Meredith, stated that that our food was almost ready. meanwhile others who came in and were seated after us were served. I asked her why the wait was so long and she responded«a medium burger takes a little longer». Now 40MINUTESLATER we receive our food, but the order was wrong so the burger was sent back. The burger and the cold eggs benedict on a biscuit should have been on the house. The manager did nothing to make our experience better.

I really really wanted to love this place, it’s completely gluten free and right up my alley but unfortunately my experience here was sub par. When I took my boyfriend here for a nice dinner while visiting there were only 3 other people in the restaurant — it took the server probably close to 20 min to take our order and food service took even longer! Almost 40 min for salmon and a burger(again with 3 people in the restaurant) My suggestion would be to add more dairy free items to the menu, most people who go gluten free also opt for a dairy free lifestyle as well, work on quicker service and this place could be a hit !

I LOVE being able to open a menu and pick anything I want. Anything! It’s been several months since I’ve been here and I will always be coming back! The prices are a bit higher than frequent visits allow, but that’s expected for super quality, gluten free food. My boyfriend always gets the burger. Always. He’s a «get the thing you know you like» kinda guy. And they are really good burgers too. I got the hot chicken sandwich because I haven’t had fried chicken since I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy. I was really excited about this sandwich and man did it serve. HUGE piece of chicken, fried to perfection, and on some awesome gluten free bread.(The«hot» part tasted like it was just soaked in Frank’s hot sauce, but I like Frank’s hot sauce) The bread has noticeably improved in the last few months and it was even good back then. Service was a little strange. The server was very nice and attentive, but it seemed like the owner was hovering a bit too much? I think there was only the one server that night, so I understood when a couple things were temporarily forgotten. She also looked new… The manager or owner stepped in and helped which was nice. Food takes a long time to come out. I suggest getting the house red wine and having enjoyable company. The experience is worth every minute and every penny. I’ll be back soon with my gluten free mom!

I will start by saying this: the ONLY reason I gave two stars instead of one is the buttermilk fried chicken. It may have been the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. HOWEVER, the entire experience left so much to be desired that I can’t understand how they’re even still open for business. We had a party of 14, for a friend(with celiac) who was in town for the weekend. Our reservation was at 7:30 on a Friday night. We arrived on time, our table was ready, and there were only two or three other tables seated. Our server was a very sweet girl. It took too long to get our drink orders, and even longer to get our drinks out. She didn’t even get mine on her first trip to the table. I had to call her back out. I’m not a drinker, so I ordered a tea, and was one of the last to get it on the table. When she FINALLY took our appetizer order nearly an hour into our sitting, she brought out one or two plates at a time, sometimes ten to fifteen minutes apart. I waited a half hour from the time I ordered the butternut squash and ginger cream bisque to the time she brought it out. The taste was lovely, but it should have been a dip with bread as it was more suited to be eaten with a fork. Upon ordering our fried chicken topped with pesto with sautéed kale and garlic mashed potatoes, she told us that they were out of the mashed potatoes And offered mushroom risotto instead. A friend asked for mac and cheese instead of risotto, and was informed there would be an upcharge. Once again, everyone’s food came out at different times, and my entrée came with the mashed potatoes, while the others’ fried chicken came with mushroom risotto… I’m so thankful for that, because a bite of the mushroom risotto was nearly impossible for me to stomach. It was disgusting. I’ll say it again: the fried chicken was incredible. The mashed potatoes were divine. The sautéed kale? Was one skinny lonely wilted piece of kale hiding under my chicken. And the pesto it should have been covered in? The tiniest little dollop of pesto, ever. Not an entrée worth $ 20. My food came out an hour and 45 minutes into our dinner. At two hours, I asked for a to-go box. At two hours, the last plate of food was delivered to our table, in a to-go box at the request of the girl sitting next to me. The server brought it out and said quietly, «the kitchen apologizes for your wait.» The kitchen should have apologized for all of our waits. It was completely unacceptable. She waited two hours for her dinner. We were all finished eating, and the server had to ask her twice what she ordered before she brought it out. As I am not affected by celiac, I would never have eaten at this restaurant had my friend not made the reservation to accommodate her eating restrictions. After this experience, even though the chicken must have been fried in some nectar from the gods, I will absolutely not be returning. I was so disappointed. I wanted to love it so much. It’s wonderful that Nashville has a gluten-free restaurant. But with so many places now offering several gluten free items, I think AMOT needs to seriously step up their game, and their pace.

I recently completed a month of paleo, which lead me to the conclusion that I am slightly gluten intolerant, especially with pizza and pastas. Nashville has such unhealthy food and the healthier food is so expensive that this restaurant was a nice find for the price point. You do not have to be gluten free to enjoy this place because they have some great comfort food, too. The pesto chicken pizza was very good(add avocado, you’re welcome) and so was the fried chicken(~$ 12-$ 16). The only reason I can’t give it a full five stars is because everything seemed to have cheese and the bacon Mac and cheese pasta was overcooked. Otherwise, this place is great!

I was very excited to eat at a completely gluten free restaurant. It meant I could order almost anything and not have to worry if it was gluten free! But I also have a tapioca starch/flour allergy which often derails any excitement I have with eating at a new GF place Luckily they quickly went into the back and found out the only item they have on the menu that uses tapioca is their cheese rolls, everything else is safe! Most of their breads and rolls are rice based. I had the vegetarian hollandaise, which was on a GF biscuit. It had tomato and spinach with a poached egg on top. My only complaint was the egg wasn’t really very warm when I got it. But the flavor was great. The biscuit itself was very gluten free, as in it was crumbly. Together with everything else it was very tasty. But if you ate a lot of it on it’s own, it dried out mouth a bit. I also got the potatoes, which were roasted in the oven and very tasty. My husband got a vegetarian omelet and grits, but he was still hungry. He said it was tasty just wasn’t enough to fill him up. From my personal experience, I liked it. I’ll be sure to come and visit again next time I’m in the area.

I wanted to try this place for the longest time and finally got a chance to. The interior is decorated so nice. Really well done. The colors and furnishings are all fresh and new. This was«on a whim» — I just waltzed in by myself. They said they didn’t have any tables so I opted to sit at the bar. I got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken topped with pesto, served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and a seasonal vegetable garnish. I don’t remember what she said the vegetable was but it was a leafy green delicious leaf that was underneath. It had veins of red in it. I was waiting for a very long time. I know it takes a while for greatness. It must have been about 45 – 50 minutes and the bartender said she would buy my next drink for free. I opted for a cucumber soda. I thought this gesture was very nice! The chicken was delicious. Everything was delicious. I really loved the personal attention given to me by the bartender. I don’t blame them for the time it took.

A great place for those who are gluten free to enjoy dishes they may not normally be able to indulge in. I am not gluten free, but we attended a birthday get together here. We were a little apprehensive about the food, wondering if it would taste odd or not, but, honestly, everything was really good. The bar staff were great. The server was very nice. The menu is clear about what comes in each dish and states that they’re willing to accommodate any changes you wish to make. It was really nice. Most of our table ordered the pizza because it sounded really good. I had that as well and added chicken. I’m not sure what I expected from a gluten free pizza, but it was very good and the chicken was grilled wonderfully. The décor was classy and clean. I loved the lighting and all of the signs and hand written art on the walls. It was a cozy as welcoming environment. There was a gluten free cake served for the birthday girl and it was also amazing. I’m not sure if the cake was made there or not though.

I wanted to like it. I tried. Everything was bizarre. My dads salad was way over seasoned. A salad. Yes. My risotto was gloop and under seasoned. My $ 5 plate of seasonal veggies consisted of a minuscule amount of raw kale. My Celiac sister liked the fried chicken and appreciated that she didn’t have to ask if anything was GF. My moms salmon was ok. The tomato soup tastes like marinara sauce. The wait staff was kind but over attentive. People were constantly hovering at our table asking how we liked things and if we thought it was good. When we brought the salad issue to the waitress’ attention she called another woman over but never introduced her. Maybe the owner or manager? She apologized profusely and said she would take care of it. Apparently that meant bringing us cake. They also said the cake was for my moms birthday. Unfortunately, that was dry and the buttercream frosting just tasted like butter. We did not have the heart to say everything was bad. The unidentified woman in charge timidly watched us and the other diners — looking for approval. It was a nice try. They need to work out their kinks in the kitchen and have a little confidence.

Wonderful meal and wine! In town visiting friends in East Nashville, they suggested this cool restaurant. Our server was friendly, appetizers were awesome and food was filling. We had delightful truffle desserts. I loved the inside. The crisp and clean white was welcoming and open. Enjoy!
