Bean Blossom Animal Clinic

My dog had not been able to walk for 5 weeks due to a slipped disc. However, she was still full of life and spunk and not in any pain. We decided to go the holistic route, as the overly expensive surgery was not guaranteed. This doctor was our last resort after trying three other places. We took her in a towel, and she tried playing with the other dogs in the waiting room. She was barking and capable of giving and receiving love and affection. The doctor gave her a cortisone and penicillin shot, which she reacted to badly. He then gave her epinephrine to counteract it. She had spasms, struggled to breathe and became limp for about 20 minutes before she died. What’s bothersome is the doctor did not seem genuine in his apology. I’m aware of the great reviews of this clinic. But I can’t ignore the fact that my dog was alive and happy this morning and now she’s dead. It was not her time to go and I’ll have to live with this forever.

We live in Indianapolis and made the 1 hour and 20 minute drive down for a second opinion. The vet we were previously seeing was suggesting an estimated 600 — 900 dollar procedure to close a laceration for our cat. Having had an animal with similar wound in the past we knew that this seemed like the most extreme treatment. Funds being exhausted we came to Bean Blossom for a second opinion. As many have said the wait is long but you are waiting because you are seeing a vet and having him examine your animal for free. You pay only if medication is prescribed or a procedure is preformed.
It is great to see someone who truly cares about your pet and providing an opportunity for pet owners of all pay scales to receive treatment. Without him I truly believe lots of animals would go without essential health care. Get there early sign in and go with the flow. Be patient and understanding. Yes, you are waiting behind 3 people but two of those families today were bringing their very sick animal in to say goodbye.
Dr. Brester is an older gentleman and what I would consider a country vet. I couldn’t tell you how many patients he seen today but they were lined up to the door, sitting on the porch and waiting in their cars. If he seems a bit short with you understand he’s trying to get to EVERYONE and he’s trying to be efficient. His staff was very friendly and helpful. If you want spacious waiting rooms and coffee brought to you head on into the city. If you choose to come to this clinic for service just take into consideration these few things and I believe your experience will be just fine.

First of all, the nurses and office staff were very sweet and kind. They were sensitive to our situation and happy to help, but the moment we got into a room with Dr. Brester, the entire dynamic changed.
Our purpose for visiting was our cat who has been battling extreme seizures for months now, and when they became too much for her or us to battle, we made the difficult decision that it was time to put her down — obviously a sensitive decision. Dr. Brester walked into our room without anything as much as a simple «hi», grabbed our paperwork, and began to review it while shaking his head every now and then. He said that there were other medicines we could try, but we knew that she would never live a normal life. Then, he immediately scruffed her on the back of her neck, failing the first time to get a good hold, then grabbed her a second time and aggressively stabbed her with his sedative needle. My wife immediately burst into tears as my sweet cat tried to fight him off, and then he walked out of the room. Moments later, he came back in after leaving us alone with her to watch her fall asleep, and then we elected to leave the room and not be apart of his process anymore. Never in a million years did I expect a vet to handle that situation so aggressively, making it 10x’s worse than it had to be…

Dr. Brester very obviously cares about the animals he treats. I take my dogs and cats there for their vaccines. I am fortunate to live close enough that I can put my pets on the list in the morning then get in fairly quickly in the afternoon. I’ve also taken a duck in for treatment with an injured foot. Dr. Brester fixed her up for ten bucks. I used to work at a clinic that would charge $ 100 per day for parvo treatment. We euthanized many puppies because owners couldn’t afford to treat them. A lucky few had heard of Bean Blossom where their puppies had a chance for a fraction of the cost. This may not be the place for major diagnostics, but for routine care and a fighting chance you can’t get much better.

Great place for cheap pet maintenance. If you have an emergency, I suggest not making the trip as you will have to wait regardless. The waits are long and the staff will allow people to sign in guests that aren’t present, but yet they don’t accept over the phone check ins which can be extremely frustrating. However, Dr BRESTER has a real concern for your pet and is passionate about animals. This is obvious in his pricing and treatment of animals. I would suggest going on a day when you have nothing else to do. Also, brown county is about 10 minutes down the road, so you can pass the time In the town or at the park.

I love this place. The staff is very friendly, and the vet shows a genuine concern for your pets. If you have never been to a country vet there are a few things you should know.
They don’t start seeing pets until about 1 pm, but they let you check in anytime after 11. You can check in and wait or leave and come back. The office is less than 10 minutes from brown county state park, so we always go hang out there. They will give you a general time when they expect to be able to see your pet. It will always be later than they say.
The office itself is small, and offers bench seating. If your pets are not well behaved around other animals this can be a pain. The doctor himself is an elderly gentleman and is hard of hearing. He always has a nurse with him though so it’s not an issue. He has always been very gentle with our pets.
Like someone else said, this is usually where we take our pets when they need check ups or something minor looked at. I can’t imagine going there and waiting there for hours with a gravely ill animal. Having said that, he charges a fraction of what other vets do for the same services. So that’s a huge plus in my book, especially if you are on a budget. So next time fido needs his shots, go see those folks. And take a ride out to the park while you wait for your turn. That way maybe your pet won’t hate the vet so much.

I am a fan of this vet’s office. I am not a fan of not being able to understand the vet. The wait is long and is on a first come first serve basis. I believe Dr Brester truly just wants to help animals and his charges show that. By far the best place to take your pet for basic care. If you need xrays etc… they do not have the capability. Set off of 135 just north of Nashville… it’s worth the drive and wait for the basics. Something major I would go to a my local vet.
