Brown County State Park Abe Martin Lodge & Cabins

We stayed in a rustic cabin, which at best should be considered glamping. The accommodations included well worn and lumpy, full sized bed on a frame with sheets so stretched that any movement caused the corners to pop off the mattress. Sleeping on a bare mattress is unpleasant and unsanitary.
The cobwebs, threadbare carpet, peeling paint and picnic table half buried in leaves testify to a lack of maintenance. In this case Rustic is a quaint term for uncomfortable.
Be warned! Stay in the lodge.

I stayed here recently on business. The Lodge is an excellent choice for a conference of 100 – 300 people, with a ballroom and plenty of other smaller meeting rooms. There is a buffet-​style restaurant in the building, or they can cater for your group to eat in their ballroom. The lodge is large enough to accommodate large groups, but still small enough to feel «homey» and make it easy to navigate. There are several comfortable areas with couches, fireplaces, and tables, for socializing and game-​playing. I did not use the aquatic center, but it looked really awesome. I’ll have to come back for a visit with my family sometime.
I only took away 1 star because the food was rather monotonous and traditional. If you like fried chicken, mashed potatoes and canned vegetables, then you won’t have a problem here. Other choices were ham, turkey, and white fish. Don’t expect anything fancy.

Best feature is the aquatic center! Great slide and lazy river type area. Places to accommodate all ages and abilities, including a nice hot tub set aside for the 18 and over crowd.
The dining room is fine, the food average and the prices good. We did not try the buffet since we do not eat enough to justify the price, but it smelled good. Others in our party enjoyed it. Staff was very accommodating as various members of our group came and went. Basically our breakfast table had someone at it most of the morning as we visited, had more coffee, went off with kids, returned, changed family members and so on.
Nice places around the lodge to gather and chat. Guest rooms surprisingly did not have coffee machines although those who stayed in the rustic «cabins» did. Mini fridges, where included, (not us) were cubes. Never have seen any that small. Read almost useless. Our lodge room was comparable to a double queen hotel room. Nice but ours had an odor trying to cover up something and it was too strong. Or maybe it was coming out of the carpet. Heat/​cool is slow to respond but it does and it is quiet. The room itself was quiet even though we were right next to an ice machine.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and will return. The park, of course, is gorgeous with plenty of hiking trails an outdoor pool and lots to do.

I stayed at the Abe Martin with my husband and three children under ten. We had a great time. The room was clean and had a patio outside. Also, the rooms have refrigerator in them. The restaurant was very reasonable and kid friendly. They do not serve alcohol. The surrounding park is beautiful. They have a great outdoor pool in the park that we went to. It was not super crowded and very clean. I would go back for sure. Really a great place for families.

Wife and I drove 5 hours to destress in the woods at Brown County state park Abe Martin Lodge. we do this once a year have been to turkey run and Brown county both are so peaceful we love the quit and calm of these parks. THe hummering bird garden is fantastic. a few years ago after seening their garden with humming birds I started putting out my own and now have a few huming birds visiting my house. they always bring thoughts of this fantastic lodge back to my mind. Love it. they put in a aqua center indoors with waterslides and pool great for the kids on the 95 plus days or winter days spent in the woods
