This is BYFAR the best barbque in Nashville… or anywhere nearby. I admit I am a BBQSNOB! I grew up in Columbus, GA where the only ‘que I ate was made by my dad and his friends. This meant slooooow smoked ribs and pork butt. The amazing smoke ring on those butts was sometimes an inch thick. The bark on everything was perfect and while we had good sauce, it was never ever needed and often not used. All of that said, I have looked for years for a good BBQ place, particularly I expected to find one here in Nash. I have been disappointed time and again, though not all the places have bad BBQ, they just didn’t live up to my standard. Too many places parboil their ribs or parcook their butts in the oven(ICK!). So when I first heard about Dee’s, I wasn’t excited but I was hopeful. We had a little trouble finding this little shack as we don’t live near that area, but once we started getting close we only had to follow our noses. It was obvious this place was doing some serious smoking. We headed«inside» to the ordering window and I ordered the pork plate, as well as a half rack(to-go since there was no way I could eat all of that food but I HAD to try the ribs). I could smell the smoke coming off of all the food as they handed it to us and it smelled amazing. I opened the first box to try the pork butt and I wasn’t disappointed. It was awesome! The sauce that was on the side was pretty good but it wasn’t needed. The butt was still moist and the flavor of the smoke was through and through. As for the ribs… words can’t describe the euphoria I experienced the first time I took a bite. This was almost as good as Poppa used to make, which is the ultimate compliment. I even called my mom immediately to tell her that I’d finally found the best BBQ in TN. If you’re a BBQ snob like me, you have to check this little place out. If you’ve never had REALBBQ, please do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Nashville is really lacking in good BBQ. It’s a very, very sad reality. That’s why I was so ecstatic when I discovered Dee’s Q last year. Dee’s has fantastic ribs, great sides, and an incredibly friendly staff. I live in West End, so the fact that they really don’t have anywhere suitable to sit and eat your food is a little disappointing, but they wrap it up well enough that it holds up well and is still tasty upon arrival.

I have to admit, I went by this place a couple of times before getting up enough nerve to try it. I got my grandson a cheese burger which he said was very good and my daughter and I got the chicken which we enjoyed as well. It took me back to when I was a little girl and my Dad would get the bar b q dinner’s and they would put a couple pieces of soft white bread in with meal. We didn’t care too much for the sides, but I am limited in what I will eat because I do not eat anything that has been cooked with pork or red meat. Definitely will go back during my next visit.

This is some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had, and hands down the best I’ve ever had from a shack. Dees Q is yet another gem found buried in the neighborhoods of East Nashville. From the looks of it, it is hard to take this place seriously, that is until you try their food. The building is literally a small shack, and looks more like something you’d find at a fair or on the outskirts of a sports field rather than a residential neighborhood. Dees Q is strictly about the food, and I don’t think we’d want things any other way. The BBQ smell makes your mouth water from blocks away to the point where you’re impatient to step out of your car and order. There menu is hand painted on a board above the small menu where you place your order. They offer BBQ in a multitude of styles and varieties, but my favorite is the classic pulled pork sandwich. The BBQ isn’t the only delicious thing they serve up here, you have an extensive choice of sides ranging from baked beans to mac n cheese to fried okra(my favorite). Everything is cooked to order, which means often you have to wait awhile to get your food, especially if there is any sort of line(which there quite often is). Their portions are more than filling, ESPECIALLY for the price. I always oddly feel like I’m somehow cheating them out of money when I pay, even though they are the ones who quoted the price. They have a couple of benches where you can sit and wait but there’s really not that much space to eat your food there. I like to take it to a close by park and enjoy my food there. If you get a chance, and can manage to find the place(it is a little confusing especially if you’re a non East Nashvillan like me) definitely check it out. I promise you will not regret the experience.

All hail the Dee’s for being a hole in the wall that delivers on yumminess. I think to myself as I approach this little yellow shack, how good can this be? The answer is pretty darn good. We normally order the rib and chicken. I am not in to pulled pork sandwiches so have no insight on that. The ribs are very good but unless you are looking for very spicy BBQ, I would get the normal sauce. The same goes for the chicken. They smoke it all on sight and the smell as you arrive are lovely. The sides are standard southern fare and seem to be adequate. We have tried some of the appetizers and they are good but not earth shattering. All in all if you are in a hurry, in need of some smokey ribs and don’t have 3 hours to smoke them yourself, Dee’s is a handy alternative. They do have a tent thing you can eat in but it’s pretty sparse. I suggest getting it and heading over to Shelby park for a picnic in a more picturesque setting.

I’ve been a fan of Dee’s Q for a while. I usually get the pork shoulder sandwich with the hot BBQ sauce — and have never been disappointed. So the other day I stop by to get a slab o’ ribs and a few sides. YUM! The ribs literally fell off the bone when I touched them. It was amazing. We had fried okra and mac & cheese. The fried okra was good — with some flavor other than fried(which is usually how it comes). The mac & cheese was a little dry, but again had great flavor. My boyfriend had the leftovers the next day — and said it was BETTER! Getting 50 wings for a party on Saturday!

I make barbecue, and I used to think I was good at it. That is, until I visited Dee’s Q. Simply put, the best ribs I’ve ever eaten. My wife got the brisket, which was good, but I’ve had better(Dinosaur Barbecue in Syracuse, NY), though not by much. Kids shared a half chicken, which was fantastic. Fries could have used a little more time in the fryer, but the green beans, okra and turnip greens were awesome. Service was pretty good, although they ran out of forks and had to get some more at the Piggly Wiggly across the street. All things considered, I’d definitely go back for the ribs, or to try the catfish, which a person waiting in line with me said was excellent. UPDATE: It is with deep sadness that I am updating this review to report that Dees is closed. Forever. Since the owner, Reggie Crowder, died it has been difficult for the family to keep the place open. Tom’s Elite and Phil’s, both on Gallatin Pike, are not bad. But they’re not Dee’s. I had high hopes that the folks renovating the old shack would start producing barbecue, but alas, they are opening an Italian ice shop and bakery.

Fantastic Q. Extensive menu and honest folks. I spent 300 bucks and got way too much great food for my last party. I have leftovers in my freezer that just keep getting better and better. The meat can be frozen and placed in a double boiler for better than the first time eats. This is the real deal for Q. It’s not perfect mall food. It’s Q. It’s real food and real happy people trying to earn an honest living. Reggie and company have the absolutely finest family business. I’ll be back.

Reading review after review of raves made me visit Dee’s Q… My faith in Unilocal has begun to waiver. We went, we ordered, we were disappointed. The barbecue sandwich was only okay, with the sauce being a little too bland for me, the macaroni and cheese was so overcooked that the noodles and cheese were both just a big pile of mush. The slaw was out of a tub(I saw the container as I was ordering) and the sweet tea was nestea. I really wanted to find good barbecue while in Nashville, but it looks like my craving will just have to wait until I visit my parents in Alabama.

My lips, fingers and now my keyboard are all dripping with fiery goodness from Dee’s Q. It’s my kind of place. No fancy anything, just damn good food. The best barbecue I’ve had in Tennessee hands down. The ribs, wings, and sandwich are all excellent. The turnip greens, are a little bland, but everything else is perfectly done. I ordered hot sauce… It’s a little sweet, with plenty of kick to balance it out. I think I’ll jump to cry baby wings next time :0)

Heavenly falling off the bone, spice rubbed and slow cooked to perfection barbecued ribs. Service was like my going to my grandma’s house for a holiday dinner: sweet and courteous, showing sincere concern that I had a good experience. What they scrimp on décor and building materials, they make up in spades with food and service. This place is literally a shack with a precarious bigger seating area shack next store with the BBQ cooker in the backyard out back waaay off the beaten track. It wasn’t even listed on my rental’s navigation system. The sauce, which is served on the side, is perfectly among consistency, hotness, spiciness and sweetness. Back to the service, I didn’t experience anything similar to Paul H. The older woman behind the counter was sweet, courteous and considerate to a fault. When she asked how everything was, I knew she really meant it. I’m only in town for the week but I will try to pack in as many meals there as I can.

Dee’s Q is possibly the tastiest little barbeque shack in the greater Nashville area. They certainly aren’t big on appearances, but when it comes to stripped-down soul food dishes and BBQ straight from the pit, you can’t go wrong with Dee’s. Dee’s is usually staffed with only two or three employees(most of whom are polite and bubbly teenage girls), so your wait might climb to as much as a half an hour on Friday and Saturday nights. It’s always worth it, though space is a bit limited and I personally enjoy carryout over dining in. I’ve sampled most of the menu and can’t seem to discover a dish I don’t love. At the top of the list are the brisket, the Polish sausage, and the catfish. If you’re feeling regal, Dee’s offers a massive turkey leg that’s a bit like something Henry VIII might have dined on, though it barely fits into the Styrofoam container they outfit you with. Sides include beans, fries, mac & cheese, and my favorite: fried okra. Prices are fair, and the employees are a bit partial to regulars. So make a habit of going and it will certainly pay off.

This place looks like it serves up unbelievable bar-b-que, and it probably does. I guess that I just had a bad/unlucky experience. I ordered a plate of pork shoulder with sides of bbq beans and fries — nothing too complex — but I waited almost an hour to get my food(as did two other guys). I understand that good food sometimes takes a little time to prepare, but this was ridiculous. To make matters worse, every time I asked about my order, the girl behind the register said that it was almost ready and that she’d have it right out. I was ready to walk when the owner — at least I assume that she was the owner — apologized and gave me my money back along with my food. You could tell that the order was put together in a rush — the fries were under cooked and they forgot the sauce. The meat was pretty good, but dry — had I had the sauce, it may have been better. I will definitely go back — I had a bite of a friend’s fried catfish and okra and it was awesome. So, to be fair I think that this place deserves a second chance.

This is a rustic little BBQ hut, where you can pre-order and eat in a little tented picnicky area. The price is right and the shoulder sandwich and sides(esp fried okra) were all yummers.

Reggie and company cook up the real deal at this BBQ-to-go shack in East Nashville. Named for Reggie’s daughter, Dee’s Q has some of the best fried catfish, meaty wings, tender pork shoulder and succulunt baked beans in town. The ambiance is great, thanks in large part to the strobe light.
