Into the very same orifice that I use for pie I have been known to insert a libation or few as well. I find that a small tipple of the aqua vitae can be,(and usually is) quite refreshing. I also am very fond of the pictures of dead presidents I collect in my wallet. Although I like to engage in quaffing adult beverages, I really hate trading exorbitant numbers of my pictures of these past patriots for the aforementioned elixirs. And I REALLY hate trading my little paper images for single servings or said hooch, especially in high-priced entrapment locales like the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Please bear in mind this is not a knock on the Gaylord. They are a business and are not holding a gun at anyone’s head. If you don’t like the price, don’t give them the booze business or better yet, do what I did and buy your liquor off-site ala BYOB. Enter Donelson Liquors. Or to be more precise, enter me into Donelson Liquor. Now, I need you to understand something. This is one of the reviews where I am torn between giving them a one star and a five star, with precious little middle ground. I gave them a four, and I’ll explain why. Liquor laws in Tennessee suck. You can buy beer(and I assume wine) just about anywhere, but an establishment selling«hard» liquor is much harder to find, especially in the environs of the racket that is the Opryland, Gaylord and Opry Mills Mall. But again, that’s a different post. Suffice it to say you cannot buy a bottle of liquor at anything like a «reasonable» rate anywhere near Oprybiz inc. I don’t know what the liquor taxes are in Tennessee. I do not understand the logic that thinks that limiting the places that sell alcohol will limit the number of people with drinking problems. If that were true no one in America would have a cocaine problem. In other states you can get liquor in grocery stores, pharmacies, why heck, I’ve known a few country hardware stores that carried it as well. This is not the case in Tennessee. It may be that Donelson Liquors knows they have you«over a barrel»,(pardon the pun). What I paid for a Tennessee product made in Lynchburg at Donelson Liquors was double what you would pay for it in a grocery store in California. DOUBLE. In Pie-Hole Boy’s world, thatsa’ lotta’ dead presidents. Is that Donelson’s problem? Nope. Did I shell out the DPs? You bet. It was still cheaper than drinking at the Gaylord. So here goes: One star, you bastards, for fixing the game against an innocent libertine like myself in my pursuit of «Knowing Jack». Five stars for having a cool neon sign in the window with foot tall letters spelling out B-O-U-R-B-O-N. Sweet. Five stars for having the product to back up the sign in the window.(Folks, these people do have a serious selection of bur-ho-bon.) Same five stars for just simply being there and selling the stuff. Upshot? Four stars. If you go, allow yourself some time to peruse what appears to be a fine selection of whiskeys, in particular the bourbons.

This liquor store doesn’t have a lot of choice for the wine drinker, but the choices they have made with their limited space are good. They even have some organic wines. i bought an organic riesling there today for a reasonable price, and they even gift wrapped it for me, although the guy behind the counter was unsure whether they had gift wrap, but he made sure to find out. If you like cold wine, you’re probably out of luck here, so just keep in mind that you’ll have to just take it home, stick it in the freezer, and be patient. I’ve shopped here a few times and the people are just so friendly and they are helpful without being pushy and they are more than willing to answer all of your questions. They do have a good selection of liquor and their prices are pretty competitive with anyone else in town.
