Great location and setting. The food was delicious, and the coffee was pretty good but definitely not the best I’ve had in Nashville. Overall, it was worth bearing the crowds for.

This was our first stop in Nashville. Frothy Monkey was a few blocks from our AirBnB which made this super convenient. The build your own omelette came out piping hot and was delicious. Ham, avocado, and tomato. The side of toast was on point with the right amount of butter. The aroma of coffee was a great entry point to kick start the day. I wish we were here for longer than a weekend because we would definitely come back. Highly recommended.

I actually broke one of my own rule and came here TWICE when I was staying in Nashville for two night. Normally I like to try as many places as possible when I know I will only be somewhere for a short amount of time, but the Frothy Monkey can serve a few purposes, so I ended up here both after dinner, and for breakfast. Frothy Monkey was in walking distance from where we were staying, and we decided to forgo dessert at the restaurant we had dinner at in favor of hot chocolate. Since we were visiting from Florida the low 60’s at night was pretty chilly. I had bookmarked Frothy Monkey for its breakfast potential, but when I searched Unilocal for hot chocolate it came up as well, and one reviewer mentioned peppermint hot chocolate… sold! We got there a little before closing time on Halloween night. The store wasn’t busy and we places our orders for two medium peppermint hot chocolates. The barista(who was dressed as a shark for the occasion) served them quickly. I was so excited to see that he had done a peppermint leaf design in the froth of my cocoa! I am always seeing fun frothy coffee art, but I don’t drink coffee, so I figured I would never get to experience this, so this barista kind of made my day. Drinks are served without a lid and there is a counter top area with sugar and such you can add(for those with coffee) and lids as well as sleeves to grab for your cup. We drank our cocoa on the chilly walk back to our Air BNB rental and it was rich and delicious. The next morning when it was time for breakfast we decided to hit up Frothy Monkey again to try the food. Sunday morning was a little more busy and we grabbed a menu and stepped in line to order at the counter. I ordered another hot chocolate of course, as well as the California which is two eggs with avocado and sprouts on sourdough toast with a side of salsa. We were given an alphabet monkey(instead of a number) to place on our table so the food would be delivered. Service was relatively quick. I really enjoyed my breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, the sprouts were fresh, and the sourdough toast had a good flavor. My favorite part of the breakfast however was the salsa. The salsa here is AMAZING. It’s not very spicy but has a very fresh flavor to it, and definitely some garlic. I think I would eat this salsa as soup. I kind of wanted to stop back here a third time and just get a beverage and a basket of chips and salsa, but we didn’t have the time. Overall the breakfast was filling and fresh and I was very happy with my chouse. For a later coffee or cocoa stop you can be in and out pretty quickly. For breakfast on the other hand you are going to want to come a little earlier to try to beat the crowd. There is definitely a coffee shop vibe here with the barista counter, and with free wifi many had lap tops out as they enjoyed their food and drinks. Pricing here is maybe a little on the higher«trendy» side of things, but that salsa and the peppermint leaf cocoa art made it worth it to me.

I like Frothy Monkey; it’s not the most creative café in town, but the basic coffee is good and it’s a great place to get some work done or chat with a friend. Of course, everyone feels the same way considering it’s nearly always packed. They have a good thing going. The 12th South location is generally where I go, so this review pertains to that location exclusively. The people who work there are fantastic and the servers are always pleasant and cheerful. My morning guilty pleasure is a giant mug of coffee and a half order of oatmeal with fruit. The full order of oatmeal would take three people and an Orca to consume; the portion is VERY generous. The patio is dog-friendly. Bonus.

Great local gathering spot for espresso drinks and spot on deserts. Interior = Hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, two levels of tables and a patio that is perfect for sunny days. Your dog is welcome outside as well — huge plus for us dogs owners!!! The location is right in the middle of 12 south — such a beautiful neighborhood! Only downside is constantly crowded and food is overpriced for what you get. Wi-fi can be spotty sometimes as well. 4 stars!

Great coffee and espresso. Homemade bread is delicious. Cinnamon Latte is all time favorite of my local friend. We stopped by several times over the weekend for breakfast, lunch and just a quick coffee. Friendly staff and cool ambiance.

We had dinner here one night, after our B&B innkeeper gave us a gift card. The place was pretty busy and we had to drive around the block several times to find parking. There is customer parking in the back, however that was all full. Service was friendly, however somewhat slow. We both had the shrimp and grits, which were delicious. We ate out on the front deck area(there were no open tables inside) and enjoyed the cool evening, minus the 3 kids that were allowed by their mother and staff to run back and forth, screaming at the top of their lungs for an hour. At one point the mother loudly exclaimed«Yes! They are going to sleep great tonight!» Blargh. At 9pm, after having just driven 8 hours, and choosing to not eat at a Chuck E. Cheese, we’d hoped we would be able to enjoy a laid back dinner :( Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to try any of the coffee or tea after our meals. After the hour long screech-fest, and the 10th Ben Folds song in a row, we paid and ran as fast as we could.

I love Frothy Monkey and was extremely dissatisfied with the service I received on 11÷14÷15. I ordered a pumpkin muffin, orange juice, and frothy monkey(requested cheese eggs). The muffin was awful and I returned it to the counter and the lady looked confuse like she didn’t understand good customer service. As busy as Frothy Monkey is the lady’s first response should have been I’m sorry that you did not like that, could I offer you something else or your money back. She had to talk to the guy next to her, which I’ll assume is the manager or owner. Employees at this establishment should be trained on these situations and should know how to respond. The next thing is that I received eggs with cheese sprinkle op top. I’ve ordered cheese eggs from Frothy Monkey in the past and I know how they come. Their response was that the cheese messes up their pans and thus they can’t cook the cheese in the egg. I honestly don’t believe that someone can’t cook cheese in their eggs. Frothy Monkey on 12th gets a lot of business and their customer service and food presentation is getting poor. I will not be coming here again. Lastly, it’s not the cleanest practice to have servers clean tables, pick up left over food from customers, and then go grab a fresh order of food to put on the table to serve new customers.

A super popular place, so be prepared to wait for your coffee. The small front porch is a great place to people watch on the busy 12th Ave, and the coffee is decent.

This used to be my absolute favorite. Lately though? I’ve struggled to get the quality and service it used to have. I keep getting overly syruped lattes that I’ve ended up tossing after a few sips. The last two times I’ve been in, I haven’t been able to grab my usual bagel to go bc it’s considered a kitchen item with what lately has been a 20min+ wait. Hope they find their groove again.

Avoid coming here during brunch hours on a Sunday morning. It’s sheer madness, with a 20 – 35 minute line out the door. Seating will be scarce and new patrons will be circling the tables like vultures.(Well, friendly, hipster-looking vultures, but scavenging for seats nonetheless.) In addition to the 20 minute line, there’s probably another 25 minutes to wait for your food. For a plain toasted bagel with a bit of tomato, feta, spinach and egg, that is way too long. However, I have to give proper credit for their coffee. I got the mocha monkey, and though I got it a bit late after forgetting it at the register, it was still fantastic. Just the right amount of rich, dark chocolate layered with a smooth coffee blend and milk froth. I’m not proud that I nearly swallowed it down in three fell gulps. I’m not sure this would be an ideal place for studying, unless you have noise-cancelling headphones. Apart from the noise, you might have to withstand glares from those who want your spacious booth for themselves. I think students might appreciate this place more on a weekday, when they can enjoy the delicious coffee in a calmer atmosphere.

Frothy is raved about constantly by most hipsters in Nashville but I really don’t see what’s so great about it. It’s way overpriced(but then again, what coffee shop in Nashville isn’t?). It’s usually pretty packed and they have a limit on wifi. Their food is very good and the patio is great to sit on and people watch from. Their coffee is pretty normal and the servers are normal as well. Nothing extravagant to rave about in my opinion.

Great vibe, great people, great coffee, décor and homemade baked goods. I haven’t tried their actual food yet, but I’ve gone in for coffee during their brunch and it looks amazing. You would never know that they have become a chain. I especially give them 5 stars because staff is super sweet and they have HEMP milk. The only café in nashville I have found with hemp milk, which is great for those allergic to nuts AND soy. Also their gluten free muffins are off the hook. If you’re looking to try their evening vibe, go to their Wine Down Wednesdays which starts at 6 — you can get three pours of two reds and 1 white as well as snack on bread, cheese and nuts(kind of my food nightmare but if you can have that stuff its awesome). Overall — love that this place is in the neighborhood!

Very rarely do I instantly fall in love with a business or coffee shop, but there’s something about The Frothy Monkey that’s just really special(By the way, I hate the name, but everything else makes up for it.) The neighborhood is trendy, TFM is located right in the middle of the 12 South district: a really cool, young community that’s become one of my choice neighborhoods when I’m in Nashville. I walk in the front door and I’m greeted instantly with good vibes and great music — it’s hard to go wrong with Modest Mouse no matter what your mood is at the moment. The place was slam packed for a Tuesday afternoon around 2PM, but I quickly understood why it’s such a popular spot. Beer and coffee — a true hipster’s paradise. I ask the man taking my order what his coffee recommendation is(I would’ve gladly ordered a beer but I was there to address a business call/video chat) and he quickly recommended one of their in-house specialties, which did not disappoint, the blend was perfect for my taste. The service here is excellent and the employees have the best beards around(a bit of beard envy coming from my end.) Wi-Fi was decent at first, but I was kicked off once. It was stupid busy and you know, if you didn’t Instagram your cup of coffee, did it really happen?

GREATMUSIC! Definitely got that hipster vibe so the atmosphere is really cool. They also had a great playlist going of some good indie mixes. As for food, I grabbed breakfast here with the Julie bagel sandwich. I added some turkey sausage and it was delicious for around $ 7. Great spot to chill and catch up with friends.

Nestled in the trendy 12 South district, this coffeehouse offers bold espresso and tasty café style food. To start I sampled a simple latte with a rich, full body. I also recommend the Turtle latte for coffee friends seeking something on the sweeter side. Lunch continued with a delightful and hardy Royale sandwich. This filling, fresh sandwich touched all taste buds with smoked turkey, swiss, avocado, lettuce, tomato, served warm on toasted multi-grain. This hipster inclined scene tends towards the appeal for creatives and conversation among friends.

Great coffee shop! Was visiting Nashville for the first time and stopped in for a chai to break up the shopping. I love chai tea lattes and this one was excellent! Very spicy. I always get it with soy milk. Cute design on top of the foam is a nice touch. The coffee shop itself was very cute. I would love to study there or just get a quick breakfast with a friend. The people behind the counter were super nice and charming. Great hipster vibe ;)

I love this place. The food is incredibly fresh and they have something for everyone. From coffee to cocktails and breakfast to dinner, you are set. I love the turkey on multigrain. The bread tastes like it just came out of the oven:)

On my second day in Nashville, I couldn’t help but wonder how there could be so many beautiful people here when they are perpetually surrounded by fried chicken, bacon and general greasiness. But it seems that Tennesseans have figured out that they can have all of their unhealthy food, as long as they just dole everything out in sensible portions(a fact that the rest of America doesn’t seem to have caught onto yet). Frothy monkey is a good reflection of that sanity. My waffles with turkey sausage was beautifully plated(my crappy picture doesn’t do it justice). Luckily, I got here early before the madness began. Upon leaving, I witnessed the most polite fight I’d ever seen over our table. I had no idea these two groups were even hovering… such is the southern charm. But this place is a winner for all your breakfast and coffee needs. Ample seating, WiFi, friendly staff and a good atmosphere… well done.
