Good, standard, southern, country food. The service was good and cheap prices too. Its cash only so come prepared.

Biscuits for liiifffeee!!! Watch out for the bacon it can get on the extra crunchy side… but really who’s complaining? Love it

Had been craving food like this for years after living abroad, and it’s so great to know cheap-​but-​delicious places like this still exist!

Maybe it’s only for when you are drunk? Not impressed, disappointed actually (other than the super cute older lady who worked there)

We only had the chess pie & some fries, but they were both great! Service was excellent.

Our favorite place to eat breakfast in Nashville. When we come to visit we always know where will will go for breakfast. Give them some love and grab you an awesome breakfast.

For this place getting a «makeover» in late October 2015 thanx to Food Networks American Diner Revival, it sure looks like a well worn dump. The ceiling is peeling at the taped joints, the tables and chairs are wobbly, and the fresh painted walls look unfinished. Pressed for time before roller derby (YES it still exists) we stayed to eat. Myself, wife, daughter (17), son (4), and a team member (16). The order was varied with standard breakfast fare except the grilled cheese for my son. My plate was the veggie omelet with hash browns. The eggs themselves were cooked through, but the onions were super crunchy as if they had never touched the stovetop. Ditto red/​green peppers. White sauce tasteless. Hash browns meh. Hot sauced it all to make it palatable. Sons grilled cheese was made with white cheese. Weird. Fries meh. The other plates I was told were tolerable. CASH only. ATM tucked in corner at I’m sure a high rate. Oh, the «busboy» appeared as if he was in work release. Must blend into the night crowd.

Perfect friendly spot for a nice breakfast or lunch. No bells and whistles, but that’s what makes the dining experience so wonderful! The owner and our waitress both kept the kids entertained. It was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had a s a family in a long time. Oh, and the food was good, too!

A very divey diner with some history behind it, but in my opinion is a bit overrated. I’ve eaten breakfast there a few times, but I feel like everything from the omelette to the pancakes were just ok. There was nothing that really stood out and made me feel like I NEEDED to come back. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad review, but it may have hurt that this place was so hyped up to me by friends before I ate there. One thing that I was annoyed with is that they accept cash only, but at least they have an ATM on site. Seriously though, it’s 2015. Everyone from craft fair vendors to little kids with lemonade stands can accept debit cards these days. Anyway, it is a pretty decent spot to grab some breakfast, it just didn’t quite live up to the hype for me.

Racism is definitely a factor. We were the only «ethnic» table in the place and we were told that we were being too loud when we were not any louder than anyone in the establishment. We got our food and left then we were scolded when we complained about the way we were treated (outside waiting for a cab) like it was our fault for coming there. Will definitely avoid in the future.

The service here was super good. The people were friendly. We had the biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, and ham steak and eggs. It was open very late and was a great option after going to bars on Broadway. The food was pretty good but it was really inexpensive. I would definitely go back again.

A dive in every sense of the word. The kinda place where you are gonna get some consistently tasty food, made to order right before your eyes and cooked by someone, Tyler is the best, who likely received his bachelors degree in the culinary arts from their Mama’s kitchen and got his Master’s in his own kitchen feeding kids. I would really like to give this place five stars, but unfortunately I am not a big fan of their new hours. Closing in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday was not a good move for the customers, but was done so the owner «can have more time with my kids.»
Steak, burgers, flapjacks, country-​fried ham, or a bologna sandwich to name a few. They’ll slap in on the grill and cook it just the way you like it and a bonus for me … the coffee is always good. When they are super busy you get to see them work their magic at an impressive pace, but never makes your feel rushed.
If you keep in mind this place is a dive, you’ll be good to go. Highly recommend by this guy here!

OK. The Hermitage Café is where you need to «end» up after a night on Broadway. Period. After two consecutive weekends singing karaōke and having a fun night on the town, I found myself coming back on two very similar evenings. Roll in late at night and order the biscuits and gravy. JUST DO IT. They come smothered in a delicious white gravy with lots of black pepper. YES. I also tried the grilled cheese and grilled chicken sandwich, and both were fantastic. Prices are very cheap ($ 4.00 for a sandwich and potatoes) and the place is just an experience overall. Check it out for some awesome drunk food. The only annoyance is that they are cash only!

There is a new reigning champ of the most terrifying bathroom experience in my (almost) 28 years.
This is where you go far after the bewitching hour. There is table service, no menus. Bottled water only, which might be for the best. Several minutes after ordering a super buttery grilled cheese and tomato was delivered on a little plastic plate that reminds me of the hospital.
Don’t use the bathroom. Apparently they try to only let female patrons use it, but it doesn’t help with the fact it’s super gross and you feel like you are getting led to a backroom to get murdered in when brought there. Seems that scary bathrooms are a hallmark of late night haunts (see Charlie’s kitchen in Boston for another example).
Remember to have cash (no, not Johnny)

A good American diner.
On a road trip through America ticking off a traditional American diner was on the menu. Good southern style food and a good array of staff and customers with the banter to match.
I felt that they were playing up to their image a little but not so much as to take away from the fun of it. The carpet hadn’t been changed in decades and it felt very lived in.
I would have given more stars but I think I made the wrong food choice. I had the steak breakfast which while passable wasn’t as appetising as all my friends choices. It was an OK meal hence a-​ok. The other food looked better. I would probably give four stars.

These guys and girl are pros, stopped in today and ordered two cheese burgers and fries. The guy on this small flat top had steak, eggs, burgers, potatoes, bacon, and bread for sandwiches, All at different stages on the grill cooking each to order. The lady who took our orders, and brought the food had every table plus counter under control. Can’t say enough, I love their attitudes and interaction with each other and the customers. Going to add this to our every other weekend lunch stop.

no frills, not for posers. this is a modest eatery. i went in for breakfast to go. they were super busy but i still managed to get my order in less than 10 minutes. very affordable. unfortunately i havent tried much of their menu, just my breakfast sandwich but their biscuits and gravy looks and smells delicious.
i can see how some people wouldnt like this place cause they dont have truffle fries here. what the fuck is truffle anyways? youre such a truffle!

YIKES. I saw the great reviews and walked in on Sunday morning with my husband.
Floors: Stained and COVERED IN FOOD.
Air: Full of flies and it smelled awful. I mean. awful. It was so unappetizing that I couldn’t sit down.
This is all I can offer for a review, because clearly we did not eat that after «enjoying» all the above for the 60 seconds we were in the building.
I’ll pass.

Unless you have a love for the nostalgia of the South, don’t go to the Hermitage café. Don’t expect your typical hipster Nashville restaurant. This place is a perfect example of a southern greasy spoon and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Wear your trucker hat, play some tom petty on their Juke Box, order some chicken fried steak and enjoy.
