Nashville Public Library – Edgehill

Small library, but confusing…
The hold shelf is tucked off to the side and I couldn’t locate my books. Grr. Luckily the library staff was nice enough, but then I noticed there was no self-​checkout. wha? Strange that this isn’t an option here.
I also kinda felt like I was in the spotlight or something, there wasn’t much room up front and I was sorta self-​conscious not really knowing where to go. It’s just a strange layout but I guess that is because the library is so small. Not my favorite library by any means. I’ll take any of the other locations!

We feel very blessed to have this as our neighborhood branch! The staff is always cheerful, friendly, and knowledgeable. It’s always a pleasure to walk in and know that we are going to get the very best the NPL has to offer! The staff accomplishes all this while doing SIGNIFICANT work with the children and youth of the neighborhood, which they do with classiness and big hearts. Hats off to them! I hope you drop by and see what I’m talking about!

This branch is pretty close to the Vandy campus area, and therefore very convenient for me. I had a book sent to this branch for pick-​up, which is one of the handiest things ever (AND they email you when your book is ready for pickup!). It just sits on a shelf close to the check-​out area and there’s a receipt inside with your name on it. Then you just grab and go!
From my quick look around, this branch was pretty small, but there were several computers available for use and there was a meeting room that you can reserve.

The 2 or 3 times I’ve been here the staff has always been extremely rude! I asked one of the staff members upfront for a ticket to use a computer and the lady gave me an ugly look and an attitude and told me they were already shut down. I wasn’t mad that I couldn’t use the computer BUT i was furious that she had given me such an attitude when she had no reason for doing so. This library is at a walking distance from my house but I’m definitely not going there again! They should really consider changing the staff!

I’ve only been here once. It was to set up my library card and the only reason I went there was because it is the closest branch to Music Row. It was small and the selection was sparse. They only had a few computers and they were packed with kids. Didn’t seem like a lot of people frequented the place either. The girl behind the counter was really green. She had to re-​do my card three times before it was right. Then when I went to check out the first time at the Green Hills branch they had to fix stuff in the computer that had been entered incorrectly.

The Edgehill Branch of the Nashville Public Library is most convenient to my house, so I decided to try going there instead of dealing with the traffic and the parking garage at the Main Library. It’s a small branch, and is fine if you’re just looking to use a computer, read a magazine, and check out some DVDs, children’s books, or popular fiction. But if you’re hoping to browse the poetry section or walk away with a stack of obscure graphic novels, you’re better off going to the main branch.
Depending on who’s working and whether or not the computers are behaving, be warned that some of the staff here can get be a little testy. They do have about 7 public computers, which you have to sign up for on the designated reservations computer when you arrive. The homework room is surprisingly large, about half the size of the main room, with big laminate tables for kids to do their work on. There are a few nice wooden tables in between the shelves for the adult patrons, but they’re too close to the in-​demand computers to be an inviting workspace.

I just keep discovering more and more branches of the Nashville Public Library. This one is quite similar to the Inglewood branch – relatively small, one room, primarily geared toward kids. They have a decent reference and adult fiction section, but it’s mostly for elementary school students to teens.
There are about a dozen computers in the library, but they’re spread throughout the place, which allows users more privacy as they’re accessing the internet or writing a report. The librarians at this location seem a bit more laid back than most; very little «shushing» seems to occur.
Edgehill Library has a nice location and plenty of parking. Unfortunately (like a lot of libraries), it’s closed on Fridays. I can never figure out why libraries around here do that. Anyhow, this is probably a library best suited for young students doing book reports and the like – not exactly full of books on quantum physics and whatnot.
