Small shop nicely decorated. At 3 pm all the kids on display — some even doing their homework. Definitely a family business(I have a lot of respect for that). Grilled cheese with bacon delicious and priced right too!

I am so sad to see this place closed! It was delicious food and I was looking forward to going back next time I was in Nashville. Please open one in Chicago!

CLOSED! :( Went there today for lunch as I had some business downtown. It’s gone! I’m so bummed. This place was the best! Does anyone know if they just moved or if they’re out of business? Their phone number is disconnected and all that. This is a sad day in Nashville history. the grilled cheese crabcake sandwich was epic!

CLOSED!!! So sad! I saw the name of this place, read the reviews and hopped in a taxi from my hotel with my mouth watering just thinking about all the cheezy goodness awaiting me… only to find it closed with a «coming soon» sign for some other establishment. :(

OM F’N G!!! Why haven’t I eaten here before? Oh yeah the line is usually out the door, now I know why. This has got to be the best grilled ham &cheese sammich I’ve EVER had! So going back in a few more days and trying the crab melt.!There’s a reason I gave it 5 stars, now go and try for yourself and see why!

My current obsession is with the Travel Channel programs such as Man vs. Food, Bizzare Foods, and No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. I took a bit of my Saturday to find one of those tasty whole in the wall places that look like they have the best food in the entire city but they’ve only told like 10 people where it is. I definitely hit the mark with this place. It was fast, fun, and I talked with all of the kids. It promotes an ambiance of the American dream that I’m quite sure will become a «must-eat» in downtown Nashville. Grilled cheese and crabcakes??? Do I need to twist your arm.

What a difference a couple of weeks can make… Stopped by for a grilled ham and cheese sandwich today and had bad service instead, really makes you pay attention to other things… The guy at the counter was quite surly… older man who definitely did not want to be there. and trust me… you don’t want him there… The way he talked to me you would’ve thought there was a line waiting out the door. It gave me a chance to take notice of the menus with lines drawn through the items no longer offered. Not nearly as clean as it’s been in the past, and I ordered the little tea cake on the counter(some orange flavored deal) had a salty taste… not very tasty at all. Oh well, they all soon learn to embrace your clientele. you never know who the new angel is in town… I was dying to return. now I’ll die if I go back… Sorry you guys missed it.

This is a small grilled cheese place downtown that is run by a family of Catholics who have mastered the art of a specialty grilled cheese. Great location within walking distance for visitors staying downtown or if you work downtown. Parking is extremely challenging. I ordered Crab Melt and Fries and a coke for $ 12.41.(A bit pricey) Crab Melt is A+++++ A massive, goosy, ooey, wonderful, melt in your mouth awesome sandwich that could feed me for 2 days. You can taste the REAL butter they put on the bread before grilling it to the most perfect golden brown. The cheese is melted artistically that it could be a tv commercial. The tomatoes, bright red and equally sliced. This is a 5 star sandwich. While waiting for my sandwich to be hand cooked, I read all the news clippings and customer letters on the wall. One is a letter in a big frame is from a upset customer who wrote all these terrible things about the place. Then the owners, wrote their own letter back. According to this reply letter, the owner is a father who moved his family to Nashville. They have 5 kids, whom are home schooled Catholics and help each day at the restaurant. All the kids are getting their core life values here. They all know the health codes how to run the place. As I walked out, I saw a little girl baggin up some fries, and young boy taking out the trash. The place WAS spotless. It’s only a matter of time before Guy Fieri and The Duggers(from TLC’s 19 kids and counting) will be eating lunch at this place. A grilled cheese shop from heaven. Amen.

Found an article about this place in the Tennessean and it piqued my interest. Who doesn’t like comfort food once in a while for lunch, right? I then reviewed Unilocal and saw that there were five good reviews and I set out that day to try it. My first experience was with the Crab Melt, since it was the one item people raved about the most. Let me just tell you that the Crab Melt is everything you want it to be. It’s a little pricey at $ 8.99, however I FIRMLY believe you get what you are paying for. It’s a monster of a sandwich and there is no doubt at all that it’s laden with crab meat. Also ordered fries(which were about $ 1.50). I’m not a small guy and after the sandwich and fries I was STUFFED. It was a lot of food, and I felt the amount(and quality) of the fries was an excellent value for the money. The sandwich itself was excellent, I had expected deep-fried crab cakes and was surprised to find that it wasn’t anything like that. It was much more subtle with Monterey Jack cheese and it was only browned, NOT deep fried, so the taste is lighter than you’d imagine, which I liked. Topping it off was a slice of tomato, which, if it wasn’t February would have been epic. Even the out of season tomato slice was a nice compliment. I TRULY hope they run down the street to the farmers market when tomatoes start coming in season and make use of local yummy tomato-ness. On my second visit I tried the Fried Oyster Grilled Cheese which was composed of a pair of GIANT fried oysters and what seemed like 5 layers of white american cheese. It was tremendous! I highly recommend this sandwich if you like fried oysters. Learning from my previous experience a friend and I shared an order of fries and I didn’t push away from the table in the arcade thinking I needed to exercise for a month to work off what I had just eaten. This establishment is an excellent and welcome addition to downtown and I hope the owners, who were friendly and understanding when asked about options, stick around for a while. The place itself is TINY, so only dine in if it’s you and a friend, there are some outdoor tables available, but they aren’t going to be an option until spring. I’d like to point out that the inside is clean and cheery and very well decorated. Unlike some other family-run places downtown, they really made an effort to impress with the décor, and not just the food. This restaurant will be a regular inclusion on my downtown lunch-eating choices.

This place is really different for Nashville. The food was great, my grilled cheese was huge and I could not eat it all. If you are looking for an inexpensive lunch, I would suggest going somewhere else. For two of us to eat it was $ 30. The sandwiches do not come with any sides which is one thing they could probably improve on the menu. Because the sandwiches are so big they could serve a half sandwich with soup or salad. They also could offer a different type of bread besides texas toast. Wheat, Rye, or Sourdough would have been nice additions to the menu. Overall the experience was good, but compared to the rising popularity of grilled cheese places in Nashville there are a few kinks that probably need to be worked out here in order to compete.

I’ve been dying to try this place and it didn’t disappoint. Look — don’t go there for atmosphere. It’s small. There are about two tiny tables and a narrow counter. When it’s warm, it will be better, as there are some nice outdoor tables. But for a crab cake lover, it’s great nonetheless. My friend and I each ordered crab melts: a big crab cake between slices of Texas toast, with jack cheese and tomato. The sandwich was big and rich: we could have split a sandwich and it would have been plenty. The crab cake was freshly made with visible chunks of crab. Trying to figure out what to get next time.

There was one particular day I decided to walk down to broadway for lunch and I saw this cute little restaurant tucked away out of hind sight. I’ve walked downtown past this place on numerous occasions but never noticed it. I dropped in and tried the crab cake on texas toast and boy was that alot of food! The sandwhich was huge and I must say I couldn’t eat it all. I will say that I was pleasantly suprise the crab cake sandwich consisted of mostly crab and not packed with alot of breading which is actually a good thing. I got my monies worth I’ll tell you that! Great for take-out and the wait!

When my friend first suggested The Grilled Cheese & Crabcake Co. for lunch, I wasn’t sure what he was referring to. One crab melt later, I was hooked. I’ve introduced several people to it since then and we’re all falling in love with it. if it’s a busy day, seating might be scarce, but if the weather is nice there are outdoor tables as well. Today I called my order in for pick-up for my office and was able to walk in and walk out with our food. Everybody loved their food(Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese, Old Fashioned Grilled Cheese Combo, Crab Balls and U-Peel Shrimp, p. s. a side of fries is probably enough for 2). I am incredibly impressed and will continue to return.

Simply stated: Great Sandwiches. Taste: 5 stars Service: 4 stars Menu Variety: 5 stars Cost: 4 stars Portion Size: 1 – 1.5 servings We were in Nashville Dec 2010 for the weekend and went here for lunch after seeing a story in the local newspaper. It’s basically a walk-in order deli that you would typically carry-out. We tried: Me, Cuban Grilled Cheese. They nailed it, and this is one of my favorite sandwich types. Wife, Taylor Swift Grilled Cheese, which includes 4 melted cheeses. The sandwiches were some of the best we have sampled. I’m sure you have to be patient there because they cook to order, but it was worth the wait. We were the only customers until 2 other sets of people came in after us. There are only 2 indoor tables for 2 and some outdoor tables weather permitting so it is pretty much a to-go place unless you visit in off hours. This is a true family business. The chef has incorporated her entire family in the operation, so don’t be surprised to have a kid taking your order and bringing it out for you. No worries though, the service is still top notch. This is a sandwich shop that we will be returning to.

Thank you grilled cheeseus! A great grilled cheese sandwich isn’t so hard to make, right? My experience suggests that they might be, having had as many mediocre or downright bad grilled cheeses as good ones. I can’t speak for the crab cake portion of the menu, but my first grilled cheese order here was fantastic. Texas toast and cheese grilled just right in what has to be real, fresh butter. Could there be a more perfect comfort food? Actually, yes – just add a cup of creamy tomato soup on the side.
