I bought a Trek 8.3DS bike from Trace two weeks ago and needless to say, after my experience, I will never recommend anyone else to purchase from here. For starters, when I walked in, I was ignored for quite some time which I couldn’t understand because the shop is small. I finally got an acknowledgement from the owner Scott(5 mins after my arrival) who was helping someone else at the counter and there was a sales associate on the floor following around another customer. Scott then told the associate to assist me. The associate asked what I was looking for and I showed him the bike I wanted. They had my bike in stock, but not the particular color I wanted. He took the bike down, handed it to me and then walked away, headed back to the other customer. I ended up waiting 15 mins before Scott and his associate were finished. Also, the bike did not have a kick stand, so I had to hold the bike up until he came back over to place the bike back up on the rack. Still he did not offer much assistance. Scott then waited on another customer who came in AFTER I walked in. When he finally got to me, he apologized for helping the customer who came in before me, He stated that he thought I was already being helped. This was strange because he clearly saw his sales associate helping someone else. Finally we discussed the particulars of what I was looking for and Scott told me that he would have to order my bike, which should arrive in a few days. In addition, I ordered a kick stand and a quick release for my seat. 5 days later my bike arrived,…they never called to tell me. I called them to find out. I went to pay the balance later on that same day, to only be told by Scott that he forgot to order the quick release. He said that it would arrive by Wednesday of the following week. I called today(Friday) and they couldn’t find a record of my purchase, nor a record of a quick release being ordered. I told the female associate who I was speaking with on the phone, that I placed an order with Scott over a week ago. She stated that she would research and call me back. She did call me back to tell me that they entered the spelling of my name incorrectly into their system, thus the reason they couldn’t find me. That’s not a big deal and I understand those types of mistakes happen. However, I told her how terribly disappointed I was about my over $ 700 shopping experience and how I have been excited about this bike purchase for quite some time, to only have it ruined by lack luster service. I’m sure this place may get loads of people who just want to come in and browse. My thoughts are they may have assumed that I wasn’t serious about a purchase, thus poor service and disregard. They did not seem eager for my business.

I bought a bike from the Trek website and had it sent here for assembly and pick up. They didnt call me when it was ready, I had to call them after a week or so. Then I went to pick it up and waited while they chatted about getting lunch. They didnt have fenders or baskets in stock, but the guy was nice enough to help me get it into my car(which is the only reason they get two stars). But when I got it home, the gears didnt shift smoothly at all and I noticed a large gash in the metal that they tried to hide by coloring it in with magic marker. I expected more for six hundred bucks.

Rented 2 high quality bikes from here to ride a short section of the Natchez Trace Parkway, which begins here outside of Nashville. Both were excellently tuned and well maintained. If you are in the area and need to rent a bike, or even want to buy one, you could do worse than talking with the pleasant owners of the shop who were on hand to help us out. Once you’re done with your ride load up on the biscuits and jam next door. You deserve it. They sell Trek bikes if you are in the market. EDIT: Just read this post from consumerist — — Sounds like Trek treats their customers right. Go to Trace and buy a bike!
