The owner used to own a chinese restaurant on Bonita road next to Vons. I used to go there for dim sum and it filled my fix instead of driving all the way up to the Convoy area. Her salt and pepper chicken wings were good and the seafood was also. This new hawaiian place is not nearly as good. The food is not as good but possibly her margins and expenses are lower so that she can make a profit. She has good prices on her combos but the food is just average. 2.5 stars which is middle of the road. I think she can do better since her old restaurant had good food. From a business standpoint I am sure her overhead is a lot lower especially her rent and having a limited menu versus a full service restaurant could mean more cash flow. Whatever, if it was as good as the old Dakines I would go back.

Okay, so I was down in national city with a friend and he suggested going to this place because he passed by it when eating lunch the other day. Well anyways, so we pull up and there is no one in there. I don’t know if we missed the rush or what but there was no one behind the counter, no one sitting down, just plates and plates of food and food particles scattered on the tables. We waited about 5 minutes and a man finally came out of the bathroom and asked us what we wanted to eat. I love L&L’s chicken katsu so I ordered their chicken katsu meal and my friend ordered the bbq chicken meal. The food came out in about 15 minutes and he kindly brought it over to our table after I had sanitized it with my hand sanitizer and a wad of napkins. The macaroni salad was good the rice was a wad of white stuff i barely touched and the chicken katsu was bland, greasy, and just not that tasty. The sauce didn’t help much either. My friend however, thought the bbq chicken was the bees knees and literally wolfed that down in a matter of seconds. Personally, I would never go here, the place is not tasty enough, a little dirty, and I honestly only gave them 2 stars because it was dirt cheap and the service was ultra friendly. Like despite his«time in the bathroom» he was super nice and kept asking if everything was good and genuinely wanted us to have a good experience as first timers. But anyways, try it if you want but I am not down for A&D.

Respectfully, I’d have to disagree with the original poster. I got their chicken katsu here and was excited that I found a hawaiian joint that has katsu similiar to L&L’s. Maybe I came at a good time though because the place seems lkie it’s not busy often. The place is a real good deal though. You get more here for your money than at L&L’s which jack up their prices like a Saudi oil prince.
