My husband works near the area and he always told me we gotta check this place out. Today we finally did and let me tell you I really enjoyed it. The staff is super attentive and friendly! Plenty of space to sit and it makes me feel right at home, me being Mexican and all I really love the way it looks! The tap selection is Awesome! I’m really into coffee stouts & porter’s and everything I tried was delicious!!!:)

This place is great, they have a variety of beers, prices are reasonably and service is great… the atmosphere is good. The only issue is the location and parking. I came in at 7 pm and stayed for a few hours. If u are a beer fanatic this is a good place to start.

This bar is a Premier Craft beer spot. A welcomed edition to the National City community. This is the only True Craft Beer bar in southbay! It is only a matter of time for National City to explode into the next craft beer community comparable to North Park once other bar owners follow suit within National City.
Eddie changes his craft beers frequently (weekly) with different tastes for the craft beer connoisseur. With 31 beers on tap you can’t go wrong here. If you are in the southbay area you absolutely MUST go to this bar!

Love this place. The owners Jo and Eddie have created a special place for beer lovers. They know their craft and you can see it and taste it!
They decorated the place with a flare of Mexicanidad and cantina style.
I am surprised a food truck has not found a home there.

this place is literally right down the street from where i work and would recommend you come here. this seems to be the only place in national city that has a great beer selection. the prices arent to high but expensive enough to keep out the riff raff. I would tell you and my friends to come here the staff is nice.

Good beer. Nice selection. This place is chill which equals a good place to hang out. If you’re about supporting small businesses, check this place out, they’re pretty legit.

This bar was pretty awesome! First, the staff was very kind and knowledgable about the beers. Second, they had a great selection of small brewery beers that I have yet to hear of that tasted great. Third, the environment was nice and clean. Forth, they had a couple of charity beers going to a dog adoption center at the time and the staff said they always try to get different charities to donate to. And lastly, it’s in a convenient location to where I live so I don’t have to drive all the way up to North Park to get some good craft beer. All the reasons I’ll definitely be going back!

Great beer selection about 15 – 20 beers on tap, friendly and knowledge staff and you don’t have to drive to north park to get there!!! When I came in they also had two charity kegs on tap with all proceeds going to a local dog rescue! Enjoyed having a quality beer bar in the neighborhood and I will definitely be coming back!!!

If they had a kitchen I would give this place 5 stars. This place has the same selection as any Craft beer bar in San Diego. The taps are always rotating and the staff is very helpful. It’s located close to my house so I will be sure to frequent this bar quite a bit.
Air Conditioning would be a nice addition to this place.

This is a well thought out, and pretty deep list. I’m always impressed by the diversity of what’s on tap. I didn’t notice the bottle section until my last visit, and the same goes for it.
They’re doing a great job curating a beer list with an emphasis on quality and unique offerings. They have a great mix of the many styles available. It’s quite a relief to see a list this sophisticated, and in an environment that I have always found to be warm and inviting. They know their beer and the industry well.
Also, they are kind, courteous, hardworking people. Not sure what happened with other people’s experiences, but it’s a startup ran by 2 people working their asses off. I bet TGIFridays has more staff on.
In a scene where every new «craft beer» bar that opens up is pretty much just buying/​selling the top well known brands (which are also delicious, and available here), it’s refreshing to go to a place where they know enough about the beer scene to look for the harder to find options. I appreciate that as a beer drinker that enjoys sampling new things.

Great local craft beer spot in national city… No need to drive out of town for great beer. It’s small but that’s what I like about it… It’s all about great craft beer

2^nd time coming & first time was even worse it’s that’s possible …
Let’s start with the first time… No service. Literally. We sat at the bar. No hello. Blank stares. I figured the bartender was in the rest room. Nope… Fifteen minutes of no help we walked away.
Second time… Sitting here now, paid $ 11 for not even full little testers of beer. R u kidding me? Not even full. Literally a rip. This place blows.

Such a great place to grab a beer specially if you live down south. Thank goodness we don’t have to drive any further than National City! Also, the staff is awesome!

Waited for more visits before I would dive into the worldwide, tipy-​nerdy, heroic world of reviews. Not too heroic sometimes, but you get the point.
I wish all reviews were positive in the world, or at least focused on what really matters, the product, and that’s why I always try!!! I try to keep my reviews solely on the product.
Why not reviewing the service? I will go to a place with the worst service, but awesome product, and that’s how t should be… just rate the damn product!!!
That out of the way! Damn! This place is very darn cool. The beer selection is always rotating, with a bunch of IPA, IIPA and IIIPAs always as guest of honors. You get your occasional sour, always some ambers and some high % 8oz pours ;)
The atmosphere is nice, clean and new. A big projector plays some fun movies to watch (kill bill, Tarantino, action flicks, etc) and TVs on the wall playing sports. No! It’s not a sports bar, it’s an… artsy, Chicano parkish, Latin-​American, and American bar… it’s weird, it’s all there. People are friendly, everyone smiles, there’s a skeleton with a beard chillin, and some crafty southparkish restrooms on the back.

Ok… So we’ve been driving to Hamilton’s in South Park for a couple of years since we moved out of that area. We enjoyed the ambiance, people, and variety in beers. My Unilocal announced a beer house nearby by the name of Machetes so we decided to check it out. The reviews I read were awesome and I even contacted some of the reviewers.
Not only is the place so artistically beautiful with reclaimed items, but the feel of the place is just so chill and relaxing. Eddie, The bartender and I believe the owner, was very friendly and knowledgeable in the beers he was serving.
Dang! The ladies room is beautiful as well! C’mon…restrooms in public places are important to me. Ladies, there is a mirror in there… It is clean, toilet seat paper, and enough toilet paper!
Sink to wash your hands is outside the toilet room… no biggy. The hand soap smelled nice as well. Not generic stuff.
We noticed that people at the bar were having a good time. There is a digital jukebox and people were putting money to play music.
Since it’s a mile away from where we live and more importantly, a place we enjoyed hanging out at… We will be regulars at this place.
By the way there’s a seafood place less than 50 steps away (not sure how good it is, have not eaten there). Pets are welcome at Machete’s and so is outside food. I made some ceviche at home and took it there to enjoy at this newly found gem.
National City needed a place like this!

Awesome craft beer bar. First time last night and had a great drinking experience. The owners Johann and Eddie are super friendly, locals, attentive and knowledgable on craft beer. The selection is really good! I’m excited to try new brews weekly. I’m so happy the southbay has a good craft bar now and we don’t have to drive all the way to North Park area. I’m lucky enough to live 3 blocks away so I will definitely be a new regular. Awesome jukebox and décor as well!

Finally! A craft brew house near my house. Well, it’s 6 miles away, but that’s close enough!
Machete has an evolving and constantly changing beer selection from various local breweries. And the best part, they’re mostly my favorites!
Service is prompt and best of all, everyone behind the bar is super chill, cool and very knowledgeable about what they serve.
Things to note:
— Large space with plenty of seating.
— 5 TV’s… Football season yet!!!
— You can bring outside food!
— They take credit.
— Plenty of parking with neighboring businesses.
— Great prices!

This is a very cool and layback craft beer bar that has an educated staff with a good variety of different craft beer selection. The service was very prompt and the knowledge that staff has is very well rounded. This craft beer bar has a lot of potential of growing into something special. I will be a return patron and enjoy the great suds that they offer, especially some of the Baja craft brews when they have it on tap.
