Love the BBQ Pit, long lines because everyone else does too. Pork ribs are amazing, been around for a long time. Call in your order for faster service, I get the quart of BBQ beans to last a week. They need to be on Drive in Diners and Dives.

Had a taste for b-q and Unilocal had a discount coupon. I got the 3 meat combo string beans were over cooked, greens were good, chicken was good, tilapia was god the rib tips had more fat on them than I like but were tender and tasty the sweet pototoe pie was not tasty. All that being said I would probably try them again I know what not to order the next time.

Awesome Awesome Awesome. Had dinner there last night and really enjoyed the food. The owner is so generous. We had the San Carlos Cardinals District 33 Spring Tournament Champion dinner there with 12 kids and lots of parents. The service was great and the ribs were phenomenal. Also I really enjoyed the catfish I think it was dipped in corn meal and then cooked and it was out of this world. The staff there was able to handle the crowd. Thanks again to the owner Keith Sr. for allowing us to enjoy his BBQ. Ron Krasner President The Pawnshop Inc

tried this place out and was definitely stoked on the food. The catfish was fresh, and the fried chicken was unreal. I never tried fried chicken with cornmeal on it! I totally recommend this place.

Today’s craving was a Pulled Pork sandwich. Keeping distance and price in mind, Unilocal pointed me in the direction of On Hit. For five dollars and a five minute drive, I could plausibly decimate this day long desire. Before setting off, I used the Unilocal Deal linked above, and turned $ 5 in to $ 10. The place was surprisingly large, but suspiciously empty. Clean, well organized, there was a distinctly southern, almost rustic quality about the store. I was greeted by a very helpful lady behind the counter who recommended the Philly for my nephew, who I’d brought along. The Philly came with it’s own onion rings, and I ordered a second set for my Pulled Pork. Ten minutes and seven dollars later, we tore down the road back home, eager to sink our teeth in to the sandwiches. I’m so glad my nephew suggested we trade half a sandwich to each other; were it not for the Philly, I would have given this place a star less. The Pulled Pork $ 5: It didn’t look bad. On a hoagie roll, slathered in their trademark Evander Holyfield BBQ sauce. The sauce on it’s own is great; tangy, sweet, smoky, and, if you like a little kick, it comes in a spicy variation. Coupled with the pork, however, it was little more than disappointing. The pork itself was tough, and had that distinctive day-old aftertaste that grilled, then re-grilled pork always has. You definitely taste more of the refried fats. The sauce made it barely bearable, and I had to power through it. Not a very pleasant experience, especially considering that this is supposed to be a BBQ Pit. The Philly w/Onion Rings $ 8: Now this is a Philly. I’ve been all around San Diego for my Philly fix. I’ve tried Alex’s Brown Bag, McGonagles, Philly’s Best, Brian’s American Eatery, and my personal favorite, Gagliones. But this Philly was a pleasant surprise coming from a BBQ joint that didn’t have good pulled pork. For one, the meat was tender, and almost melted away with every grinding chew. There were no overpowering flavors, just a well executed mélange of meat, cheese, and onion. No bell peppers in this version, but I’m not complaining. It even had that signature quality the Fresh Prince himself desires: grease coming through the wrappings. I don’t usually enjoy anything that makes brown paper glow that much, but this was a great exception. For the drive and reasonable price, I’d definitely come back for it. The Onion Rings $ 4: This might have been more disappointing than the pork. Deep fried well past perfection, in that gray area between edible and burned. I don’t think they even had onion in them. I would have had a better time of things making my own at home with half an onion and some pancake batter. I definitely would have had larger portions, for at $ 4 a side, I was given 5 small, ash-brown batter rings. The Verdict: This is one of those places where you have to have tried what you’re ordering before hand, lest you’d like an unsatisfying substitute for whatever craving claws at your insides. If you pass by hungry, try the Philly, and definitely get a different side. If you want pulled pork, well. this Pit just won’t hit the spot.

I bought a voucher for this place through for $ 1. basically you have to spend $ 35 to get $ 25 off plus you add 18%. not bad right! It was a bit of an adventure to find the place but we eventually did get there. When we got there the place was empty. The owner greeted us and got us a seat, menu’s, and talked with us a bit. The best part about this place is the owner and the small family vibe it has going for it. Now with this voucher we had to order a lot of food to get to that $ 35 mark. so we ordered a small rack of ribs, small sides of slaw and MacNCheese, a pulled pork sandwich and some fried chicken covered in spicy BBQ sauce. The food was okay, not great but not bad either. the fried chicken was really good smothered in their own spicy BBQ sauce but a little too much of it. the ribs were pretty good but smothered so much in sauce it takes away from the meat. All you really tasted was the sauce. and then again with the pulled pork sandwich. This place just didn’t do it for me on the BBQ hunt. still haven’t found anything in San Diego that can stand up to Phil’s. I keep hearing about other places but once I try them they just stand up to watch good BBQ should be.

Pork Ribs, French Fries, Dinner Roll, Salad, Baked Beans, Pecan Pie & a Soda to wash it down!!! The barbecue sauce is sweet & I’ve always enjoyed it. I can’t really complain about barbecue pit. The only reason I’m giving it 3 Stars is because I love my meat to fall off the bone drenched in juices!!!

I ordered a rib tip sandwich, candied yams, and baked beans. The bread was good, soft and warm, like a sandwich should be. Yams, shouldn’t be served in water, it loses it’s sweetness. Baked beans, a little runny, it needs to be thick so people can easily clean it off the bowl with their fingers. Hope these suggestions makes those dishes even better. Tanks again

I live around the corner so I’ve been several time. The restaurant is always clean and the service is timely and nice. They even offered me a sample which I totally loved(creamed corn). Flavors are good and they are Black Owned which is important to me!

So my aunts went into the the restaurant looking for some food, but nothing was prepared so they just walked out and we headed for the salon next door. As I was getting my hair cut, the owner went of his way to get a sample and come to the salon to give us a sample that didn’t disappoint. So my girlfriend and I decided to give the place a try and we ordered a philly cheesesteak. We conversed with the owner and he was really down to earth. When we tried the cheese steak at home, it was quite full of steak, though it seemed to lack on the cheese(or it got eaten up by the meat), it was one of the best I’ve had in a while. My girlfriend regrets not getting the rib tips, but I enjoyed the cheesesteak more.

This is not a «regular» BBQ place like the BBQ pit in El Cajon. This place is SOULFOODGALOREBBQ! I think it is fair to say this to give folks a better impression of what to expect. Food is very good, music a bit too loud and chairs much too skimpy for big heavy eaters as father of my kids at 400 lbs+. We would had stayed longer if it wasn’t for the fact that he was uncomfortable on the chair and I like to carry on a decent conversation while eating with my kids. So in future we will go the take out route. Only weird thing was that the jumbo shrimp were friend with the tails and heads on.(and breaded so you would bite in the scaly, uneatable part) That’s crazy. But in general the place has excellent food and is worth expanding your culinary horizon for.

I’m not a connosieur, but I know what I like. I’ve tried this place when they first opened(pork and beef ribs) and was stunned by how salty they were. So, today I decided to give it another shot. While not as bad as before, I have to say that it was NOT«On Hit». The rib tips were ok, the red beans and rice w/sausage was lame(sausage wasn’t even smoked it seemed), and the brisket left so much to be desired(drenched in sauce, maybe to add some moisture, which means the meat was kinda dry). Sadly, my opinion is, if you want some«Q», there are some better options like Coop’s(OMG, great!). The service was great, though. The two stars just reflect on the products.

Sorry but this place was not on hit. Since i live in the area i decided to try this place, i was very disappointed, the food tasted as it was from the day before, not fresh at all. It was a little pricey for a hole in the wall place that i thought would be a hidden gem. The Service was good and they were friendly but my expectations were not met.

The food was delicious BUT… I am not sure sanitary conditions were present. My girlfriend and I both had the tri tip sandwich and catfish w/fried shrimp & onion rings. It has been exactly two weeks now and our shitting regimen has not been the same. I know it sounds funny to hear this, but seriously were… messed up :(

On Hit BBQ Pit is a hit with me. I’ll probably get a lot of responses back saying that this place is better than Phil’s BBQ. But, hey, it’s my opinion.

Awesome food, friendly service. Good value as BBQ goes. Quickly becoming a favorite of my wife and mine. It is nice to have a place like this so close to home in the South Bay. We’ve tried the rib tips, brisket, gumbo and beef ribs and all have been good to excellent.

Had one of those random cruising days when I landed here for some lunch. I’ve seen the signs so I had to see for myself how on hit was this pit. Not too bad and the portions are more than fair. Tried the brisket and ribs. Having this place right around the way doesn’t hurt either.

On Hit BBQ Pit is located on Plaza Blvd(shopping center where Manila-Tokyo &Dominos used to be). I first saw their big smoker in the parking lot a few weeks ago sending BBQ smoke signals around south east San Diego. Today, I decided to answer their call. I went with the brisket sandwich. As I waited for my sandwich, the owner came out to greet me with baby back rib samples. Hell ya, it was«On Hit»…free bbq is always a hit. haha. Meat was nicely smoked, and falling off the bone. Their sauce leaned on the sweeter side which was all good with me. As for the brisket sandwich, it came on a soft 8″ roll. On Hit does NOT skimp out. The roll was filled with tender ½ inch meat wedges covered in BBQ sauce! The owner has big plans. Right now they cater to a lot of downtown hotels/businesses and will be opening a 300 capacity restaurant in La Mesa. Their slogan is «The world’s best smoked bbq ribs. I don’t know about best in the world, but they have a jump on south east SD. With lunch prices under $ 10, I’m sure I’ll be making return trips. It beats driving out to Sports Arena and waiting in hyped lines.
