Place is closed. See Rey Azteca is king. I know it would be nice to have choices for a Mexican restaurant however I will take one great one over one great one and one mediocre one any day of the week.

WOW. …and not in a good way. I’ve eaten at a lot of bad restaurants and every time I come home I always say«I’m going to leave a review» but never do. This one takes the cake for one of the worst places I’ve ever been to as far as both food and service goes. I came with my girlfriend, my friend and his wife, and then two of their guy friends. Our waitress was young and seemed very confused by everything. We explained to her that my girlfriend and I are on one check, my friend and his wife were on another, and the two friends were paying separately. My girlfriend ordered a margarita to start. They had different flavors/sizes and she asked if it was possible to get a strawberry-mango margarita. The waitress had to go ask if this was possible, which it was. I believe they had three different sizes, in which she specifically ordered the smallest size. She tells me there is no hint of tequila in it. Not even cheap tequila which she was ok with getting… tasted like nothing but mixer. As far as our meal goes, me, my girlfriend, and my buddy’s wife all ordered a side chile rellenos to our meal which I want to say was around 4.50. When our meals came, five of us got our dinners and started to eat for a couple minutes not realizing the sixth person did not get his food. Several mins later it finally came out. Our waitress then brought a large plate over to the three of us that ordered separate chile rellenos and said something along the lines of «they just put all three of them on one plate… is that ok?» We just look at her and then ask for three plates. She comes back with two plates.(No big deal I guess, one of us can eat the last chile relleno on the platter they came on). This is where things really turn south. As my girlfriend is helping me transfer one of the three chile rellenos onto my small plate, it’s not coming off in one solid part and seems really runny. She then hands the platter to my friend’s wife so she can do the same. For the next minute the three of us sit in silence as we literally dissect which looks to be a couple spoonfuls of seasoned ground beef with white creamy cheese sauce on it. I’m searching for any signs of a pepper. Where is the pepper? I’m moving my fork back and forth through the meat dip wondering where the hell the pepper ran off to. All three of us pick out what looks to be MAYBE a 1 inch squared piece of canned green chile under the saucy small mound of meat. My friend’s wife goes«uuuummm this isn’t a chile relleno… I’ve been here before and have gotten an actual chile relleno.» We both agree and say yeah I’ve eaten numerous chile rellenos around the Pittsburgh area and they have all been an actual med-large sized pepper either sauteed or battered and fried, and stuffed with meat or cheese. When the waitress comes back our friend explains that there is something wrong and that this is not a chile relleno, asks that it just be taken off our bills, and we give her the plates of saucy ground beef with a piece of canned green pepper the size of the tip of my pinky. Another girl comes over to our table and begins to question us. At this point if I were here only with my girlfriend and not my friends and their friends who I just met, there would have been a scene, and I’m not the type of person to complain and make scenes. Instead of just coming over and saying something like I’m sorry you weren’t happy with your order, I will gladly take it off or get you another chile relleno, she says(with attitude) something along the lines of «that’s how we make our chile rellenos here.» My friend’s wife politely says«Noooo, I’ve ordered them here before and it looked nothing like that.» She continues to argue back saying«we have a stuffed poblano on the menu…» I’m thinking… AREYOUSERIOUS… WTFDOYOUTHINK A CHILERELLENOIS??? My friend’s wife…“again I ordered a chile relleno here before and got a chile relleno. This isn’t a chile relleno and it is not what I got before.” She again continues to say«Welllll this is how we make them here… I can take it off the bill if you want.» I almost lose it but hold it together for the sake of my friends but the voice inside my head is screaming WEALREADYSENTBACKTHETHREESMALLMOUNDSOFCHEESEYMEATANDASKEDFORTHEMTOBETAKENOFFTHEBILL… WHYWOULD I PAYFORITWHEN I SENTITBACK… ANDDIDN’T EATIT??? Even if that is their idea of what a chile relleno should be, WHYAREYOUCHARGINGOVER4DOLLARSFOR A SPOONFULOFMEATWITHSAUCEONIT??? At this point we just finish eating our meals and I ask our waitress for some more napkins and my girlfriend asks for a corona because you are guaranteed alcohol in a bottle of beer. The rest of our meal goes by with no napkins or corona and we joke about the service in disbelief. My friend actually reminds the waitress at one point that my girlfriend ordered a beer. She goes«ohh» but since we were getting ready to leave at that point my girlfriend says

Lunch special Chili Rellenos with Rice and Beans. Consisted of about a tablespoon of ground beef in gravy covered by melted cheese. Hoping to see a poblano chile, I kept looking. Finally found a little 1×1″ piece of some kind of a green vegetable which may have once been part of a chili. Rice and beans were nothing special. I’d never go there again. No complaints about the service, however. Of course, I spent over 20 years in Texas, so I know what I want in Mexican food. This wasn’t it.

Let me start by saying I frequented this place for 7 months before with excellent results. Like 3 times a week. Then, disaster. The last 3 months have been horrible. The food has gone down hill quicker than an alpine skier. Carnitas went from lovely shredded pork shoulder to chucks of what must have been pork chop. They changed the bean recipe for sure, not nearly as good. Rather bland instead of the hint of cinnamon they had before. After that, I didn’t go back for almost 2 months. Apon return, around 9pm on a weekday, I was met with attitude from the one server/bartender. He literally smacked himself in the head and mumbled some shit to the point another member of the staff apologized for it. Then they chose to overhaul the staff. I had some good relationships with them. Truly went there to talk and practice my Spanish as much as get food. Tonight was the final straw. I always get the same thing from the a la carte section. 3 soft chicken tacos or 3 chicken enchiladas a guacamole salad and extra salsa. Carnitas, another go-to, explain themselves above… Received the«other» tacos de pollo tonight. Grilled chicken, not shredded, with sour cream and tomato. Barely lager, but $ 5 more. Why have the same fucking thing on your menu twice but different versions? One for $ 5.99 the other $ 11.00? Please… Asked new«manager» about it and she read the fucking menu description to me. Really?!? I know what the menu says! I get the same shit, from mostly the same person, EVERYTIME! She gave me a «generous» $ 3 discount. Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll never go back! Drive the extra 4 miles to Rey Azteca in New Kensington. I will… Business now closed. Apparently Rey Azteca is moving in sometime in January. Yay!

Well, nothing special here. I was hungry, and they serve comida, so it worked out okay for all parties involved. The chips were fine, nice and crispy; the salsa had a nice flavor but was super-mild. My shrimp in chipotle sauce ‘burrito’ came with a bunch of sad flour tortillas(edible, but not homemade). Again, almost no spice. I asked for an alternative to sad refried beans out of a can, but they had none — that tells you something. My dinner guest ordered a vegetarian quesadilla, and the vegetables seriously looked and tasted like they came straight out of a frozen food bag and went into the microwave. Otherwise, the place was clean and no complaints about the service. Food needs some improvement, but it’ll serve the need if you’re hungry.

I had the lunch Chimichanga with Guacamole and I ordered a side of guacamole to have with my chips, which was very salty and overpowering. Ray Azteca and Emillianos in Gibsonia is much better.

If you want good Mexican food at reasonable prices served by a friendly professional staff in a clean modern atmosphere, Tres Amigos is it. It is that combination that demands 5 stars. I have eaten there 10+ times in the last year with my wife and friends. Always very good! They have handled our small parties very well and I have seen large family groups there, too. But to top it off, they have some of the best guacamole and queso fresco north of the Rio Grande!

Love a good neighborhood place. I ordered the house special seafood quesadilla. The shrimp was perfect, vegetables too. Literally cleaned my plate. The rice was dry and crunchy. Not appetizing at all. Chips were bright to table warm. House salsa is okay. Cheese sauce(queso Blanco) was okay, but was a bit lumpy. The waiter was very friendly and the atmosphere was very warm, despite the cold outside. Overall, it was pleasant. We will be back. And not just because it’s right around the corner from home.

The atmosphere, food and service were all great. I think they saw us walk in because we were greeted with chips and salsa almost immediately. The restaurant is very clean. The server was super nice and very attentive. The menu selection could have been bigger but it still gets the job done. My dinner was fantastic! Very good and it came out quick. My only major complaint is that it’s a bit pricey for the little bit of food you get. Normally I take home food from any Mexican restaurant but I finished everything and was still a little hungry. I could get a lot more food(maybe not as tasty) for a lot less elsewhere. I would go back though.

Nice service, decent selection, only disappointment was the lack of shrimp in the chimichanga. Service was super nice, didn’t rush us, but place was not super crowded. Would visit again

First time visit to Tres Amigos. Went on a Friday evening and was seated right away. service was great, brought drinks right away and helped with menu items. Free chips and salza. food came quickly and was very good, we don’t have a lot of experience with Mexican food so not a lot to compare it to, but we enjoyed it and will stop back

Good food at a great price. Very fast and efficient service. Actually, I’ve been in and out in under 20 minutes before. Although I’ve not dined here with more than three people, I’ve always seen much larger parties every visit. Free chips and salsa are a plus. Nice addition to the area, no other options like this around.

Really good. Our waiter said he doesn’t eat Mexican food, which I thought was weird. But he was really friendly and super attentive. The food was excellent and portion sizes were great. Really pleased!

Definitely did not have a good experience here. I understand that service may not always be perfect when a business opens, but this was just all bad! My husband with my 1 year old went to enjoy dinner and had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to come to our table… then for our drink order, then more time for everything else! We had to go out of our way to get someone to come to the table each time for service… for our drinks… our food… our check. etc for our long hr and ½ ordeal. The manager was our waiter, was friendly enough, but this place certainly needs to get their act together! The food was ok. We each got combo platters and shared a $ 20 pitcher of «homemade» sangria. There was not a single piece of fruit other than a cherry in the glass in the sangria… wouldn’t recommend for the price. The atmosphere is really nice though!
