Posted on behalf of my mother: In the spring of 2013, I reluctantly placed my husband in this facility after much assurance that this ‘secure’ facility could handle my husband’s dementia. Though this is a very nice facility, looks are very deceiving. The staff was clearly not trained to understand dementia ‘behaviors’ with the possible exception of some of the very over-worked and poorly paid nurses aides, who are expected to care for 25 residents with little backup. The policies of sending patients out to hospitals is clearly ill defined and in 4 days my husband was sent to the hospital 3 times, only to be sent back because he did not meet the criteria for admission. It is well known that change is harmful to this kind of patient and his condition progressed rapidly. He had belongings ‘gone missing’ and was put on medications with little follow up. It was clear that this facility will only take responsibility for the ‘easy dementia patient’ as verified by a doctor at one of the hospitals he was sent to. The cost of care is higher than other units in this area and the only thing that can be credited to this place is the rapid deterioration of my husband’s condition.
