They literally have one of everything in this store and their staff is super helpful. They have saved us more than once from having to drive 20 mins to a larger big box store. Really convenient.

Harveys is probably 10−15% more expensive than a Home Depot or Lowes. Why it gets 5 Stars is that you are in and out of there within 3 minutes. They have a team of folks waiting for you at the entrance who know the store inside and out and can take you to exactly what you need, immediately. They make good recommendations on products for your needs. We have also used their locksmith service and found the prices very good.

This really is more like a combination old fashioned «General Store & Hardware».They always have what i need. I can ask for the most obscure absurd thing you can imagine and THEY HAVE IT !!! Pipe cleaners for your tobacco pipe — THEY HAVE IT, 1950s pocket warmers run on lighter fluid? THEY HAVE IT — -need a toaster? THEY HAVE IT. Need a waffle iron? THEY HAVE IT. Need a retro manual push lawn mower? THEY HAVE IT

I visited Harvey Hardware yesterday, needing a small piece of replacement glass cut in the shape of a trapezoid for an outdoor lantern. The young man who waited on me meticulously cut the glass until it was a perfect fit and the cost was far less than I had anticipated. Service such as this is very rare and I plan on making Harvey Hardware my store of choice. I could not be happier with my experience.

I live in Westwood on the furthest side away from Needham– on the Walpole line. I have been by Harvey’s 1,000 times over the last 20 years and never been in. My daughter had a soccer game last weekend nearby and I had 30 free minutes after dropping her off before gametime.
I had a couple things I needed so I stopped in.
The service was AMAZING. I didn’t know exactly what I needed but a quick conversation with one of the MANY friendly, knowledgeable and willing to assist staff helped me out. I seriously thought I was in a time-​warp to the 1950’s. Everyone was knowledgeable and HAPPY to help.
Since then, I have been back twice already. Great service and just amazing how many items they can pack into that store. They had everything I was looking for.
I wish I had discovered them earlier.

Decent place with helpful staff, but the owner with glasses, unfortunately, gives attitude. Sort of feels like he does not want to be there. Too bad.

Forget these guys! They promised to fix my snowblower, then when I called to arrange for service, they all of a sudden were too busy. Needham Garden Center staff is far more helpful, and more knowledgable as well — take your business there.

I’ve been here… Once. I probably won’t return.
Sales associates were kind, as were the products. Everything was organized and clean, yet the prices were high, and I feel Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Harbor Freight Tools has MUCH more selection of products to choose from, their prices are also much cheaper.
Now I get it, people who live in Needham, like to stay local, and give local business’ their money. I don’t live in Needham. Lowe’s in Dedham is closer, bigger, and just BETTER!

Many other places are closer and easier to get to from where I live, but I’ve learned to look here first now, because this is the place that always has what I need. They’re helpful, they know everything, and and they make it easy.

Harvey’s for me is bittersweet. I love the selection and old school feel. The service is great at first blush. But it is only as deep as getting you to buy something.
I made the mistake once of trying to use them to buy a wrench to work on a drain pipe and I will never use them for any tools again. I went in, asked for help on wrenches found and bought one. Then I went home, tested it and it was too small. Then I went back to get a larger one BUT THEY WOULD NOT TAKE IT BACK. So I bought another wrench. That one didn’t fit either. Again NO TAKE BACKS. Finally on the third try I got the size right, but the service had really failed me at this point since I was over $ 100 in and I now had a 3 wrench set I couldn’t really use. Everyone talks about how good their customer service is, but if it doesn’t extend to after the sale, the have lost me. Lowes or HD does better in this department and they are cheaper.

Buyer beware: very limited refunds. Most tools are NOT returnable. Even if you buy and return in say 30 minutes.
Prices are generally high — 10−30% above box hardware stores
Claim to take AMEX on the door, then refuse it at the register. Will take if you insist, but they are just jerks on this.

I am shocked and appalled that Unilocal has allowed their site to be used to spew such blatant antisemitism. Mr. Tony H. should take a lesson from HARVEY’S HARDWARE on how to treat everyone with RESPECT!

Always a wonderful experience. While updating my home I bought knobs and bathroom hardware. The items were ordered and ready in no time!

Just moved to Needham a month ago. I have been to Harvey’s almost on a daily basis. I always have questions and don’t really know what I need or am looking for and they are just great! There is always someone ready to help and guide me. Today we also had the locksmith come out to the house and he did an excellent job. He was right on time, explained what can be done and how, did everything perfectly and cleanly. I am sure I will be at Harvey’s again before the weekend is over for one thing or another…

Very knowledgeable staff and usually have everything. Also, have comparable prices to for a small shop. But my weber grill here– they set it up and delivered it and a better warranty than the big box stores and pretty much was the same price.

I have been going to Havey’s since I was a kid.
This is honestly a must better option than going to the orange guys.
Small time hardware store with a lot of speciality parts. If they don’t have it they will order it for you.
I love supporting these guys.

For over twenty years, I have used Harvey’s for those hard to find items. They seem to have everything. But, I have to say that a recent experience dealing with one of the head guys, I figured, left me saying that I would not go back. Word to the wise — don’t shop there if you find you might return some item. Go to Green’s in Wellesley. They are fantastic there, have myriad items, and will never yell at you.

I love Harvey’s. They have a wide variety of ordinary and not-​so-​ordinary necessities. They have a high number of staff for their size, and they are committed to making sure you get the help you need. If you’ve spent any time in a modern big box hardware store, it can be somewhat disconcerting at first to have so much attention. My sympathy to the reviewer who felt untrusted. Sure, some of the staff has more experience than the others, so sometimes your question isn’t answered the first time you ask it. But you’ll be led to the next guy, who probably does know the answer.
One of the best things is their no-​hassle return policy. I’ve taken stuff back, months after I bought it, without a receipt, and as long as it’s resellable, they take it back. Once I accidentally (I swear!) tried to return something that I’d used (I’d forgotten, I swear!). They graciously pointed out my error, and they don’t hold it against me. I still get to return stuff without a receipt, no questions.
Here’s an example, from many possible, of how far they go to help you get what you need. Once I needed a «security hex wrench», it’s a normal hex wrench with a shallow hole in the tip. They didn’t have it. They suggested drilling the hole in an ordinary hex wrench, but I didn’t think even a carbide-​tipped drill bit would be able to dent that incredibly tough steel. Where we left it was that they would see if they could order one for me. A few days later, I called and learned that they’d gone ahead with the experiment of drilling, it had worked, and I got my security-​hex-​wrench for the price of an ordinary hex wrench plus the cost of a carbide drill bit (which was fairly toasted at that point). NO CHARGE for labor, even after I practically begged them to let me pay more.
Finally, no hardware store can solve all your problems. But Harvey’s can’t help you, it’s a very short walk to Dana Group Associates.

Always double check your receipt, it will be more than expected.
When you are over charged, and even though you try to defend the young man that helped you (his writing was clear), and manager misquoted another price though.
but I did not point that out to him.
Then for the manager TO GO ON AND ON about the employee, you will regret going in in the first place!
They should act like professionals, have some respect for their employees
and customers by not making them feel bad for being over charged again and speaking up this time.

I grew-​up in Needham and this store is great. The staff is helpful and friendly. You never have to hunt down someone for assistance. They greet customers at the door.
They were also able to make a special key for me when the other box stores couldn’t.
On the downside, I recently had a screen replaced and it wasn’t done well (too much slack). On the upside, they are going to re-​do it.

After discovering that a squirrel chewed through the rubber gas line on my Weber Genesis EP310 grill I set about trying to find a replacement part. After a handful of calls, including to Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Canton where I bought the grill, I came up empty. I was referred to Harvey’s by a guy at Commonwealth Fireplace who told me Harvey’s has lots of replacement parts. The staff was very friendly and responsive (Rocky’s had me on hold for 10 minutes). And sure enough, they had the hard to find 41″ hose I needed. They even offered to set it aside and didn’t even ask for a credit card number to hold it.
Weber had the part, but I’d have to wait 3 –4 days to get it from Chicago. Harveys was $ 11 more than Weber for the part, but immediate gratification comes at a cost.
BTW, parking in the Needham commercial district is a nightmare. Be forewarned. And bring quarters. The municipal lot was packed, but I found a metered spot on the street.
