Nesbit Blueberry Plantation

The Nesbit Blueberry Plantation is one of my favorite places on Earth. My parents brought me the first year they heard about the U-​Pick Blueberry farm, in 1990, when I was a tiny baby in a stroller. Since then we have made the pilgrimage to Nesbit, MS from Memphis, TN every Summer for opening day. These are hands down the best blueberries I have ever tasted. They do not spray the bushes with poisonous pesticides, so you can eat the berries right off the bushes while you pick them. Some of the berries are as fat as table grapes, I kid you not.
The entire place has this great beloved-​family-​business vibe, and it is most obvious when you talk to the owners and their children. I could tell you a lot more about the people and the place, but honestly by far the best part is the BERRIES. On opening day (yesterday) I arrived at 7am, picked for 3.5 hours for a total of 3 extremely high quality gallons. They ONLY charge 12 $ per gallon of U-​Pick berries, which is simply a price that can’t be beat. If you love blueberries, or you are not sure about them but want to try the best ones around, THIS IS THE PLACE, and NOW (Mid-​June) IS THE TIME!

Heard about this little gem from my roommate. Once a year and for only 5 days, these guys open their doors to people who come and have at it with blueberry picking for a fair price. It’s 12 $ per gallon (they give you a bucket and you do the picking) or 20 $ pre-​ordered (they do the picking for you!). They’re open Tuesday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm. We were there at 7:30am and picked 2 buckets. Took us a little over an hour and it was pretty hot despite the fact that it was early. But we had a blast doing it! Definitely coming again next year! I should mention that it’s a good idea to bring some small water bottles with you because even though they provide water at base-​camp, it’s a long walk from where you’re going to be picking. They also have other yummy goods on sale like muffins and blueberry spreads. Gorgeous view! Loved this place.
