This place has definitely improved since the last time I dined there. The food was just amazing. I would refer choosy friends and family here in a heartbeat. The location is prime. Keep up the good work in quality, and whatever improvements you’ve made keep it up.

One of my local favorites. Always great service, the girls that work here are very friendly and always go above and beyond whats expected. Very relaxed casual atmosphere, I recommend highly to anyone visiting or who live in the area.

I’m not sure how the sushi is. We put our name down and instead of waiting, standing, we asked the hostess if she called people and she answered yes! So we put our name down as Next Up… went next door… No call… And after 25 minutes I went back in and realized she gave our table away. So just make sure you don’t leave the hostess stand if you want to keep your spot. Not the clearest bunch. Nor the nicest.

Although some things at Sushi Q are good, in general I would not recommend this place based on service, price, and quality. My sashimi was frozen, not prior but I literally took multiple bites of expensive fish that was frozen inside, yuck. The service was lacking for sure, not friendly, no water refill etc. If this was a cheap sushi option I would say okay, you get what you pay for, but the sushi rolls here are $ 15 isn and they are just meh. I don’t mind paying good money for good food but to pay good money for budget rolls with frozen skimpy portions of fish with bad service it just doesn’t add up.

Do not try the sesame chicken! It’s about 23 bucks and is the worst driest chicken I have EVER had! My boyfriend and I honestly thought it was a joke. Dry skinless boiled breast with mediocre bottled teriyaki sauce. Also the rolls are way too big! If you go, order them«rolled small». A great suggestion that the waitress gave us. Out of my three experiences sushi Q is over priced, hard to get seating, and hit or miss dishes.

Beautiful sushi and gorgeous salads! Always delicious and carefully prepared. Lovely ambience and very cool art on the walls. Only one little tiny complaint, more wasabi!

Quite terrible all around. The service was friendly but useless overall. Took an amazingly long time to get tea. The server said the first batch was cold and she said the second would be better. Why bother serving it? Seriously, if you know that your product isn’t ready, why the heck are you presenting it to me?!? Took an hour to get a hot cup of tea from this restaurant. Later on, the server pandered to another table of very nice people she knew as they shared their stories of harvesting weed. The entire restaurant has a «sour-urine-funk» smell. My hunch is that it’s reasonably clean, but they’re in dire need of a better HVAC system with a dehumidifier. Our Tempura app was so poorly executed. The batter was bland and terribly undercooked. It never developed a golden brown crisp, just a white veil of deep fried paste. Absolutely no flavor, not even on the shrimp. Really, eat child’s art paste next time. It’s cheaper and won’t leave you with grease-induced dysentery. My Tako nigiri was massacred with the most crude knife skills known to any sushi chef. It was entirely too thick, and cut in an odd size that made it impossible to eat with the rice. Rookie work. My first roll was ok, unmemorable with a lack of polished execution. It was heavily dressed in a mayo sauce. Heavily. Our other roll featured that same awful tempura shrimp inside of it. This time, as I bit into the roll, I got the sensation of biting into a bungee cord that had an essence of fish. Yuck! On the upside, the rice was well-formed and had a great texture. Overall, this is quite easily the worst sushi expensive I’ve had. It even beats a horrible discount sushi-boat experience I had in Boise. Better bets: Kaido Sushi in Grass Valley, or Sushi in the Raw in Nevada City(get reservations NOW or you’ll never sit).

Meh… This wasn’t terrible, but it just wasn’t good either. Service was slow and I waited a full hour before they refilled my tea. The tempura batter was poorly cooked and very bland. The rolls were roughly put together, but at least the flavors were there. The ambiance was nice. I just don’t think I’ll ever come back again. *after we left the restaurant, I got sick… Felt like throwing up. It did not settle well.

Let me put it to you like this: I got a love-hate relationship with Sushi Q and it just keeps gettin stronger, girl. Ok first of all, listen– its some of the best sushi ive ever had. And ive tried Sushi in the big cities, Los Angeles, Seattle, and so on and so forth. Yup it surprises me too, since we’re way up in the mountains and there aint no fish up here. But here’s what really makes me ANGRY about Sushi Q – they never let me buy the sushi! I want the sushi but they no give!!! You must have a reservation to be fed — even if its a tuesday evening at 5pm and nobody is in there. Ive tried to just roll in and order some food. Theyre just like«sorry no reservation? you must go home and eat macaroni cheese instead!» My plan B was to say F the reservation system, i’ll just order takeout when im up for sushi. Because lemme ask you this: who can really predict when theyre gonna have a sushi craving in advance? I dont have the where-with-al to predict my cravings, and make a reservation 2 weeks ahead of time. i live a life of whims and fancies! Anyway, the website says they do takeout, so that was the way I was gonna git my foods from now on. So one night i called them 15 minutes after they opened, I believe it was a Wednesday, and asked to place an order to go. They said«sorry, no takeout tonight». This threw me for a loop — i mean, ok what does this mean? it told me that although they do indeed take to-go orders, it is only semi occasionally, and there is no rhyme or reason to when they will and will not take my order! I feel like i am at the mercy of the hostess in this place. I cant live like this! I’m so hungry. And this sushi so good. I want to give them my money but they no take!!!

Best sushi I’ve ever had. The quality of the seafood is great. The customer service is great. We go at least monthly, if not more. I’ve read complaints about the price. I’ll just say this: 1) you get what you pay for &2) If you want to spend less, go to long john silvers for your seafood. I’ve spent 10 years in Florida and two years in Japan. I know quality seafood & quality sushi. This place has both.

Sad to only give 2 stars. I have been going to sushi Q for as long as they have been open, so I feel I have a lot to compare it to. In the last year or so I’ve noticed portion sizes of the fish have diminished dramatically. What before you could call generous, now I would call«skimpy»; especially true of their rolls. Bummer. The service 2 years ago was stellar, now the servers seem to have the attitude they are doing you a favor to visit your table; dinner there always takes 1.5−2 hours, mostly due to the uppity servers. Lastly, the place seems to be taken over by a lot of 20⁄30 somethings, with very small children. I have experienced this repeatedly, or would not have mentioned it. I have no issue with children in restaurants, unless their parents allow them to «run free», whine, cry, scream, through tantrums, etc. Given that you are spending a minimum of $ 100 per visit, I would appreciate if management would be proactive in asking the parents to take the little ones outside so that the other 30 people in the restaurant can enjoy the dining experience. I’ve asked several times when children are disruptive,(not just a whine her or there, but running to other peoples tables, noisy and unpleasant.) When I’ve politely mentioned that my husband and I are there for a quiet meal and could they please deal with the parents, they either pretend they don’t hear, say no, «we welcome families», or the wait staff will go pick up the child and play and distract them so that it insures MY service by that waiter will be diminished. All in all, I have been a die hard fan, but decided to stop going. :(

Really outstanding sushi. After excellent experience with nearby Kaido I hesitated to try a different place. But Sushi Q did not disappoint. Asked for soy paper on both the Kona and #15 and loved the flavors. Wow! Can’t wait until my next business trip here.

we came here for the first time a week ago and love it! We have gone to all the sushi bars in the area and really enjoyed Sushi Q. Great service and great food.

Stay Far Far away from this dreadful excuse of a Sushi Bar… to start the service was as bad as I have ever experienced! and I mean HORRIBLE! The sushi is awful at best and it is over priced and disgusting… save yourself from the pain and misery of eating at this hole… I have enjoyed eating at Sushi Bars all around the country… This place should be closed! You can get way better rolls at the local grocery store…

Make sure you try their house salad. It’s one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Great variety of sushi rolls, from basic to fusion. The wait staff is usually on top of things and are always polite. Their miso soup is delicious too! Try and get a taste of everything when you’re there; nothing is below average at this restaurant. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

We give Sushi-Q a solid B+. Some stuff we love, some rolls seem a bit too similar to one other, and some items are just way over-priced. We are also big fans of their Grass Valley competitor, Kaido. There are some things we like better here, and other things we like better at that restaurant. We find both Sushi-Q and Kaido to be far more reasonably priced and have a much larger menu than Sushi in the Raw. Sushi-Q(like Kaido) is cute and cozy. Best to always make a reservation, because without one, you may have difficulty getting in as this restaurant is popular with locals. We have eaten at Sushi-Q twice recently. We particularly love the baked mussels appetizer, the shiso saucy roll and the ninja roll(but we forewarned these both come loaded with fried won-tons on top, so beware of monotony if you order both in the same meal). We also like their salads. We also like the scallop appetizer(grilled on a skewer) and the calamari tempura is excellent. Did not care for the poke appetizer because it was basically some large pieces of sashimi served over a lot of grated radish and seaweed for $ 16. We definitely prefer the poke appetizer at Kaido(or the miso-mayo appetizer there). However, the sashimi was excellent and very, very fresh, we just thought the recipe lacked creativity. For the high price we wanted more creativity. We realized what we were paying for was the quality of the fish, which was tops though. The unfiltered cold sake was excellent as was the hot sake we ordered. We do have two complaints. One is that Sushi-Q tends to sometimes overdo the«hot» flavoring on stuff. They use both a powdered red pepper as well as their house«pink» sauce(shiracha mixed with mayo), and sometimes they just seem to get carried away making everything hot. If you don’t like hot, tell the waitress so she can tell them to tone it down. The only true disappointment was the tamago, which was very poorly prepared. We are used to tamago that is light and sweet. What we got instead was a HUGE slab of very heavy rubbery egg(1.5″ thick, no kidding) that was barely sweet at all, on top of a flimsy wad of rice that was falling apart(from the weight of the tamago. We love tamago, so this was a big disappointment, but we loved everything else. We did order the black sesame ice cream for dessert. It was good, but would have been even better with a tiny drizzle of excellent honey over it. Because of the smaller, intimate atmosphere it is a great date place, especially if you can get in early before they get super busy.

I tried it again and was not impressed. His selection of fish and knife skills are disappointing. I doubt he was trained in Japan. The cuts were odd and everything tasted meh. Not only that, he promised to bring in some shellfish and we all agreed on a day to come in for it. But he didn’t have any when we showed up with high hopes. He didn’t admit to forgetting about it or apologizing for having us trek up there on his word. It’s okay for just fusion rolls, but not authentic sushi. Sorry.

Best sushi in California hands down! I am a avid sushi lover and have eaten sushi everywhere. This place is the best! Expensive and totally worth it. The fish is so fresh. They always have special items too like ocean trout, wild salmon and toro. Not for those who want a generic sushi experience. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The servings are huge too! Another plus. 5
