This lovely place is open only for weddings now. Hope new management at the Northern Queen will reopen this restaurant.

Been here two times last summer and enjoyed their delicious eggs benedict(yes, I ordered it both times!) on the deck overlooking the waterfall. This summer, I was sadly surprised to see that Trolley Junction Restaurant has closed… permanently. :(

We went to TJ’s today as a fond farewell to their beautiful views of the waterfalls and amazing food. It is such a shame they will be closing the end of this month. You will be sadly missed by all…

Sadly, the owners of the Northern Queen, who run the restaurant, have announced they are closing it. So after February 2013 ends it will be no more. That’s going to leave local organizations searching for a new venue, as it was popular for breakfast and lunch meetings.

They have announced in the newspaper that they are closing this restaurant to the public. Apparently they will continue to serve the retirement home residents, and try to find a new operator for the restaurant.

This is a locals place. It’s hard to find and not anywhere close to downtown Grass Valley. But for brunch, it’s the place to eat. And the view of the waterfall is a real bonus. The TJR serves only breakfast and lunch, to 2PM. As a party of four, we each had a different plate: the rib and eggs, the Rough and Ready, an omelet, and another omelet of a different kind. Our hosts, the locals, come to this place frequently and for good reason. The staff are friendly, the food is done as ordered and fresh and hot, and the ambiance is peaceful. And as is the hallmark of California restaurants, the portions were huge; so come hungry.

I came here for a rehearsal dinner on a Friday night as two of my friends got married the next day. I know our group had reservations already but I was still surprised by the overall ease of getting everything set up and all the staff was friendly and checked in on our table constantly to make sure we were okay. I selected the BBQ Beef sandwich from their«Frugal Friday» menu which also came with corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. I was about to order a burger instead but after the waitress mentioned this special I decided to go for it. I also had a Sierra Nevada Porter beer. The view outside from where we were sitting was of a beautiful waterfall. I didn’t pay for the meal but it didn’t seem like the items on the menu were overly priced either as they seemed reasonable. Not sure if I’ll ever be back here but I wouldn’t turn it down if someone asked me to go.

We’ve driven by this place a hundred times but are usually on our way to Reno and points east with no time to stop. We had dinner here last night and will definitely be going back. On Friday nights, they have something called«Frugal Fridays» with a specially-priced menu of select appetizers($ 4.99 each) and entrees($ 11.99 each). My dining companion and I both ordered from the Frugal Friday menu. The regular menu has steak cooked many ways, lots of salads, some sandwiches, and more. My dining companion says chicken cordon bleu was very good and so was the prime rib. Prime rib was perfectly rare and serving sizes were generous. Dessert was only so-so — carrot cake and a flourless chocolate torte. The wine selection is average — they could do with a little upscaling of their wine list. Oh, and the homemade potato chips were nummy! The best parts of the experience were our servers, Ben and Giacomo. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and very friendly without being overbearing. The property is gorgeous — I imagine it is hard to find a table with a bad view, although we did sit outside with a gorgeous view of the waterfall and creek. If you’re looking for trendy food, this isn’t the place for you. If you are looking for simple and tasty food, you’ll love it.

My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here the night before our wedding last October. We had a private car with our own private restroom and our own waitress, which was super nice! The drinks and wine were superb! Service was great, too! The food was pretty good… I wasn’t positively blown away by it… but it was decent. The chicken alfredo, though? Avoid it with your life. I ordered that and I regret it. I wish I had ordered something else… but all-in-all it was a great experience and the view from our private car was beautiful!

I had the apple, pecan, + blue cheese salad with balsamic vinaigrette + it was quite good. Service was fast + friendly. Everyone else’s food looked good as well. Cute patio.

Made a reservation for Saturday dinner and asked for an ourside table with a view of the waterfall. We got our table and an excellent dinner: Prime rib VERY rare came just as I asked for it; my daughter had a steak sandwich which was a small NY steak – both came with nice salads(or soup); my wife had a Cobb salad that was perfect: and opening salads were good. Hot home-baked herby, crusty bread first, and to finish, deserts to die for. Limited but carefully selected wine list. Our server was knowledgable and attentive. All-in-all a perfect evening our! Note to the one star review above – Don’t complain about a place that you haven’t tried because YOU don’t bother to call ahead!

Unless you ordered the Monte Cristo, you are doing it wrong! :) Simply the MOST delicious experience I’ve EVER had. I’ve eaten here twice. Once for breakfast(I had french toast, eggs, and sausage). I haven’t had french toast in YEARS and boy was it worth all the calories it cost me. 2nd time I ordered«take out» from my room, and had the Monte Cristo(see above). This sandwich is HUGE and comes with delicious raspberry something or another(jelly/jam?) to dip it in. Good Lord, your mouth with thank you for every bite. Fries were good. My hubby had the steak sandwich which he said was good with the soup, which he said was bad. I didn’t try either. I was too busy enjoying my Monte Cristo! Even though this was GREAT food, I could not help but feel tremendous guilt for eating SO heavy this last weekend(I am paying penance all this week). Don’t get me wrong, this weekend when we go back… I’m getting another Monte Cristo. Period. I don’t care. Yeah, it’s that good.
