I had them install a new carrier system in my home in the summer of 2012. I got the best gas furnace and second best heat pump that Carrier offered along with an Infinity wireless thermostat, humidifier and Infinity air filter system. The system cost me over $ 11,500 before rebates. They had the lowest quote of about 5 other installers and it included 10 years of free labor and parts so I thought it was a no brainer. However they didn’t tell me until a year and a half after the installation that I was required to pay for yearly maintenance services in order to stay eligible for the 10 year parts and labor warranty which I think was very deceptive. They also never told me the air filters were over $ 90+ and that they only lasted about three months. That’s over a dollar a day just for air filters! They did handle all the utility and Carrier rebates so that worked out great. As far as the installation went I was not too thrilled as I feel they did a sloppy job. They jury rigged the original duct work on a new installation and they used a lot of aluminum tape to correct problems with the fit. It looked unprofessional in my opinion. Also on the original installation(which Elite did in 2000 on new construction) they only had an exhaust pipe on the gas furnace so fresh air was being supplied from inside the house which causes drafts. I had to tell them to install both an exhaust and fresh air pipe to the outside of the house as they were going to only install the exhaust pipe again! I also had to tell them to install a new power cable and quick disconnect box per the quote as they were going to use the old hardware. In addition I had to instruct them to install a clamp to hold the power cable to the side of the house as it was about five feet long and dangling. I also had to spend a Saturday cleaning up and correcting their installation such as insulating the walls where they installed the new pipes, purchasing and wrapping the outside power and Puron lines together with black duct tape. In addition I had to set up the new thermostat without their help. I am a programmer so not a huge deal but for an $ 11,500 installation I would have thought the installers would have assisted me to make sure it was done right. Anyway it was probably a good thing I had to set it up because I discovered that the humidifier was installed incorrectly. They had placed a manual control box for the humidifier on the side of the duct work in my basement but it should have been installed so that it could be controlled directly from the new(expensive) wireless Infinity thermostat. I had to have them come back and correct the installation which took two more visits before they got it right. Later on that year I discovered the furnace was reporting errors when it started running in the winter. I would not have known there was a problem if I had not learned how to access the logs under the equipment maintenance icon on the thermostat. The error required a new gas control module and took two more visits(and time off work) to get it repaired. The system seems to be working fine now and the maintenance logs no longer show any problems. I like my new HVAC system but I was disappointed with the quote and installation from Elite. The biggest issue I have is their deception on the maintenance service. They are asking for $ 164 twice a year to maintain the 10 year parts and labor warranty.
