No rating of 4.5 stars so I give them 5 because of the huge portions at great prices.

We heard so much about this place that we finally decided to take a drive to check it out. Starting with the chips and salsa, the chips are very generic and a bit thicker than what we like. However the salsa was excellent. Tip: Ask for the hotter salsa to spice things up a bit. The guacamole was tasty but it could have used a bit more avocado and a bit less tomato and onion. Then came the entrees. The carnitas I ordered were completely dried out… almost jerky like. The accompanying onions were burnt. Maybe some people like to have their pork stuck to the fajita plate… I’m not one of them. Dana tried the cheese enchiladas with pork, grilled onions with red sauce. This was uninspiring to say the least. The one redeeming thing is the portion sizes are immense. But then again if the food isn’t prepared well, then a lot of it isn’t a good thing!
If this place were closer in we might give it a second try, but unless we find ourselves somehow lost and very hungry in New Athens, this will be our last visit.
