It is honestly a wonder to me how Fathoms stays open. I’m assuming its the location on the water & outside seating option in the summer, because the very little options they do have on the menu are not good. Their drink list is also underwhelming and when you do order one its loaded with sugar/mixers. Service however has always been good.

If I could have left a 0 I would have this place is down right horrible soaked scallops in NB what a joke all the hype for that aside from location I wouldn’t come back here to order a glass of water fish did not seem fresh chowder was mediocre at best don’t waste your time here people hands down best seafood in town is the Endzone!

We went there the day after our wedding before going out to the Vineyard. We have great service and the bar was bumping because the U.S. Women’s soccer team was about to win the good medal. I had lobster ravioli and it was amazing! Try the crab dip it was also unreal. Nice view of the harbor and the beer was ice cold.

Enjoyed a pleasant lunch with outside seating! The chowder was wonderful as well as the pan seared little necks.

Loved the food. Ordered clam chowder and was not disappointed. Friend ordered lobster mac and cheese and devoured it. I had Bedford scrod baked with amazing green beans and red potatoes. Would love to eat here again. Our waitress Becky was soo friendly and helpful too.

Love Fathom’s as an after dinner spot, but recently decided to go and try the food. I don’t like big menu’s but feel their menu is somewhat limited to regional basics — even with that being said we did enjoy our dishes. I ordered the baked scrod; delicious broiled fish with popular crumb topping — simple, but delicious and sides were good. The prime rib with gravy was raved about and then devoured. Great local spot for drink AND dinner!

Went there before a show at the Zeiterion. We had a large group and ordered several things at different times. The drinks were good, the food was good and even though the place was very busy, there were no glitches in the service or the meals. Would definitely recommend the place.

My wife and I went there tonight for our anniversary. The meal and service was just perfect. The staff was so friendly and I cannot see this place ever getting a bad review. The only bad thing I can say is that we c don’t live closer because this would be a 3 night a week place.

Enjoyed dinner here last night with Co workers. I’m in town for business and they recommended the place. I had crab stuffed shrimp and a baked potato which was all delicious. Also had clam appetizer and drinks, all made very well. Would recommend this place as one to try.

Fun atmosphere and good food at a reasonable price! I took my girlfriend to Martha’s Vineyard and we dined here one night. Allison was our waitress and she was great! We couldn’t have asked for a better server. We had to order some quahogs and had fish and chips to start with. Definitely worthwhile to check out if you are in the area!

We stopped in after I ran the West Island 5K. I was craving raw bar! I limped to the bar and sat down with my amazing supportive bf. We had lovely views of the waterfront area. Our bartender was a bit chilly but very efficient and polite. We had two super amazing Ketel One Bloody Mary’s, littlenecks, oysters(Westport) and clam chowder. Everything was A — 1 perfect. Love Fathoms!

Fathoms is an excellent restaurant but prior to the meal I don’t think I have ever experienced a bartender that doesn’t care about service Like the one at Fathoms she has no customer service skills her name I think is Kristen she ignores customers and doesn’t care unless it’s a friend I believe this restaurant could be one of the best in the area

My husband and I came here for a date night. This was our first time here and we will be returning! The restaraunt is casual but very nice. Outside dining by the water is available. We had the ahi tuna for appetizers, I had the baked scrod and my husband had fried scallops and clams. The seafood is very good and very fresh. Service is also very good. :)

Our barkeep Tommy Charp is outstanding. The drinks are outstanding. Great place to watch a game. We started with the Sesame encrusted Ahi Tuna… In a word, YAHOO! GREAT. Follow with the calamari, again, winner, winner! Followed with the chicken BLTPIZZA. Again outstanding. If you haven’t been to Fathoms, what the hell are you waiting for? The place is a jewel.

Not necessarily the type of place I’d give 4 stars to but as I’m dreaming about the Baked Scrod weeks after I ate it, you know it’s gotta be good. I think my next trip out to the Cape will be based around stopping here to eat — it was that good! Nice location with a patio out back on the water. There was music playing in the bar area. And, a strip club is next door to fill out your evening. I sent my bro over there when I wanted to call it a night after my delicious scrod. Wait staff beyond friendly and whipped me up the scrod long after the kitchen was closed as my ass of a brother almost drowned us on his sinking boat that day.

In planning an outing for a co-worker and I surrounding our recent graduation, we took the recommendation of another and decided to go to Fathom’s to eat, drink, and be merry. Announcements of our plans were met with exclamations supporting the excellence of this restaurant located right on the water in New Bedford. My excitement grew… Having never visited this restaurant and given the large size of our group(13 to be exact), I called two days ahead of time to ensure this business could accommodate our party at the desired date and time. After checking with the manager, I wrote my outdoor deck reservation on the calendar. With a time of 6pm, I was informed over my calls that we would have the tables until 8pm. I’ve never been given a deadline for simple dinner reservations before but wanting to try out this raved-about restaurant, I obliged to this stipulation. The first to arrive, my co-worker and I checked to see if our tables were ready. As 6pm approached, the hostess brought over who I assume to be the manager. She explained that the restaurant normally seats the entire party once they have arrived. I stated that almost all 13 people would be driving separately and that some would be there after 6pm so could we be seated as people arrived? This was countered with a «How much later than 6pm? You are TYINGUP four of our tables on the deck». Wanting to say: Excuse me? Tying up your tables? Are you serious… I made a reservation two days ago… I have these tables for 2 hours per your protocols and I want to maximize my time at your restaurant since I drove all the way out here from Providence, RI. Instead, taking the civilized route: I explained that I imagined they’d roll in shortly after 6pm and that we would still like to be seated so we could order drinks while we waited. Fortunately, we were then lead to our tables. If this review were just about the food, drinks, and waiter/waitresses, I would have given this place a 4-star review. The menu was plentiful, the daily specials appetizing, the mixed drinks tasty and refreshing, the food delicious, and the entertainment delightful(an acoustic guitarist who covered everything from Johnny Cash to the Beatles… Early 90’s to today’s Top 40). But the sour taste left from this initial encounter invaded the remainder of the evening. When a couple of people turned out to be no-shows, some of our group had to switch tables so they could take 1 of the 4 away from our setup. Normally this would have been fine, but they did not simply remove the empty table. Instead, some were uprooted, drinks and all, to fill said empty table so they could take the one they were sitting at. When one person wanted to send back a drink too boozy for her liking, she received the 5th degree about what was wrong with it, statements flying that they weren’t sure they could take it off the bill, questions asking if she knew what the ingredients of the drink were, and so forth. When our main entrees were brought out within minutes of receiving our appetizer salads, eyes scanning the table wondering where in the world we would fit so many plates all at once. Feel rushed much? Great food, awful customer service. I could have done without the palpable sense of disdain for bringing a large party to this restaurant to enjoy the outdoor deck dining for a special occasion. I will not return to this restaurant.
