Viva la townie. You can’t get more American than a townie bar. Low ceiling makes it very comfortable Like my own basement bar. Wood and beer signs — that’s the deco. But real people. Pool table. Drink specials every night. Owner bar tends and is cool. Bottom line — I like this place.

Descriptive phrase: weird, but clean, townie barn bar. I’ve passed Haybalers Saloon about a million times on Greenfield just west of Sunny Slope in New Berlin and always wondered what it’s like. A few friends and I took a chance and stopped here on the night before Thanksgiving. You can’t miss Haybalers: it’s a giant red barn where none should be. Don’t try to go into the barn; there’s nothing on the first floor. The bar is located down some steps underneath the barn. The parking lot is always full, but inside it wasn’t that crowded. I’ll be honest, I expected it to be MUCH grungier and dirtier inside. It was surprisingly clean and well-kept, if a bit dated. It feels like a mix between a corner townie bar and a country saloon. There’s a J-shaped bar to the right, pool and darts to the left, some seating, and a full poker table. Out the back looked to be an outdoor smoking area. There’s a smattering of small TV’s tuned to sports, and pretty standard cheap beers available. Nothing too fancy here. The music rotation was odd. It swung wildly between oldies, rap, pop, r&b, country, and everything inbetween. It didn’t matter what was playing, the creepy couple sitting at the bar next to us was constantly humping each other. Haybalers Saloon keeps their townie dive bar clean, which is a definite plus. But the odd clientele and lack of excitement would keep me away even if the«theme» were my style, which it isn’t. Even if I were a local I wouldn’t see a reason to return.

I was surprised… stopped in on a Saturday and was very impressed with the DJ they had. The Atmosphere was welcoming and the bartender– she was great. I am going to back ore often the DJ is there every Saturday I guess, Panama was his name.
