This review is based off of numerous(4) visits to Beer Army and from a vegan standpoint. I feel the need to mention my being a vegan due to the limited dining locations here in Eastern NC. When entering Beer Army you are presented with a trendy interior; yet subtle and inviting enough for young Holstein and the elderly. You are greeted immediately and seated. The seating is fair at times and sometimes you wonder why you are sitting in the back when the tables in the front close to the televisions are clearly open. My waiters have always been attentive, courteous and precise with my orders and constantly check my table to make sure I am satisfied with my dining experience. In terms of the food, it is good. I usually order the black bean burger with sweet potato fries. The avocado is not fresh and has a weird taste, so I do not recommend that topping and the buns are sort of hit and miss. The taste of potato buns are ok depending on the brand or if baked on location; however I think they would fair better with a brioche or softer bun that complements the burgers a little better. I have it had their dessert, since it being more of a burger bar, it doesn’t really conjure up thoughts to have a dessert. Their beer selection is vast and available for you to get up and select anything you want with your meal. Pricing is really good and not expensive at all with burgers starting at $ 8 and each topping $ 1 extra. Overall this is a great dining experience and I will continue to frequent this location. As a person who loves to try different foods all the time I can only recommend trying a little bit of everything before you judge. In terms of dining experience it is far better than the precvious restaurant(Ribeyes uhhh). So what are you waiting for go have yourself a burger and a beer at Beer Army!

The interior of the ground floor is cute. It’s like a sports bar, but new and cute. However, the upstairs is quite plain and has little ambiance. Our waitress was great. However, no one in my group enjoyed their food much. We tried: –jalapeño poppers — not bad –house-made sausage wrapped in bacon with spicy mustard – surprisingly flavorless and not worth eating. –a burger with chili, slaw, and cheese(but subbed out the beef patty for grilled chicken.) It was just meh. My eating partners, who also had beef burgers and the cheesesteak, didn’t really like their food either. –3 of the 4 in my group thought the burger buns(and cheesesteak buns) were too bready. We all ended up eating the sandwiches open-face, or removing some of the bread. It wasn’t good bread. –sweet potato fries were surprisingly bad. They were barely warm, hard, and unlike others I’ve had. Not good. –The Bloody Mary was tasty.

Came here for the first time with my husband and BIL and we loved it! We had the bison burgers and it was delicious! I also love the beer store they have!

Stopped in for a burger. Long wait. There were only 3 customers. When it arrived, the meat pattie was good, but slightly overdone. That was the best part. Came with processed cheese. Bacon was cold. Bun that appeared to be straight out of the fridge(damp on the base) and old. French fries were out of packet in the freezer, and overcooked. PS: There was a sign proudly proclaiming the beer pipes had been cleaned 10 days ago. And despite there being a hand pump, no cask ale, and no idea when/if there would be any.

Great beer selection, draft and bottle. Amazing burgers; and the pimento topped burger is hardy!

Count me among the ranks of the not-returning. Sad… I was looking forward to a good alternative to other restaurants in New Bern; we have so very few. Really? This is the best we can do here? It’s beer and burgers, boys. It’s not haute cuisine. We had to wait an unbelievably long time for our food. Not much was coming out of the kitchen, even though they weren’t even close to busy. When the food did arrive, it was underwhelming. The burger was just ‘meh’, and the ‘carmelized onions’ barely had any color to them… they were simply sautéed. The wait staff seemed at first apathetic, then somewhat apologetic for the long wait. While waiting and waiting — since we had all that time to look around — we noticed a couple of sloppily dressed employees shuffling back and forth to the kitchen, with pants sagging so badly they could barely walk. «Ummm, yeah, along with the burger may I see your employees’ ass, entirely against my will? Thanks.» I’m sad for New Bern. Some people seem to think that the restaurants here deserve 4 or 5 stars, a concept that I’m still trying to wrap my head around, and I’ve lived here for 20 years. We have a long, long, long, long way to go before there are even two viable choices for a meal in this town.

Nice sports bar with lots of flat screens to what your favorite game. I think I was Kitts recently remodeled. They have a wide selection of beers. Burgers were good and I really recommend the stuffed jalapeños!

Its funny cause they have all these awesome beers but I only drink Bud. However… this place rocks, had Jalapeño poppers and they were the best evvvver. Bought a real cool hoodie for way cheap. Buuut now the best part; Jenny-Awesome bartender, way knowledgable about the craft, soooo personable, and not just cause shes hot… my next trip down from L.I. im going strait to the Army!!!

The first and only time that I went here was a few months back. The first impression was terrible. There was a 30 minute wait and when we sat down the waiter informed us that they were out of bacon. I was like what the hell?! Go to walmart and get some! But for some reason they couldn’t. Which I thought was bullshit. The bun on my burger was soggy and not worth it. I don’t recommend this less than mediocre overpriced establishment to anyone. McDonald’s would have been a better option.

Stopped by here recently for lunch and ordered the Daisy Cutter with chicken. The Daisy Cutter is chili, slaw, onions, & American cheese on potato roll with a side of onion rings. Yum. I would order that again. The menu is small but inventive. Some guy at the bar ordered what looked to be a Bloody Mary, but on the straw was a burger slider! Wow. I can’t wait to come back here. Love the décor. Its hard to describe but all related to beer. The beer selection changes frequently, and they have two of their own brews on tap also. I ordered a burger with chili and slaw, holy cow. It was cooked perfectly and was enough for two meals. Definitely a great addition to downtown New Bern.

A Foothills Seeing Double IPA with a Reveille — burger and hard fried egg but make mine bison. A good burger joint with lots of beer to choose from. The bacon is a candied bacon and awesome. Relaxing atmosphere with a friendly staff. The food was prompt. A bit pricy for just a burger but if it what you are in mood for it is a good burger. At least you have a choice if beef or bison.

My first visit was when they first opened their doors. I was a big fan of the Outpost and Combat Brewery, so I had to give it a try. There was a 100% improvement since my first visit! Jen was our waitress, she did everything right. Great attitude, service and very attentive. The beers were good and cold, we chose Heroes Never Die and Fire in the Hole. The Jalapeño poppers were great. We chose the G.I. Joe and Gunner burgers. Both were very tasty and cooked as ordered. The fresh cut fries and the onion rings were very good sides as well. Overall we had a great experience, we will be back again and I’m glad we gave it another berry!

Food: amazing. My burger patty was thick, flavorful, and juicy. Veggies were fresh, bun was soft and also flavorful, not one bit flaky. Service: the girls at the front were so friendly and helpful! We were in a hurry, and they made a point to prep the bags the food were going to go in! They invited us to the bar to try some complimentary samples of their beer, and they tasted amazing! We were not even beer drinkers, but there were bartenders from another place at the bar as well, and vouched for it too Ambiance: they have this awesome mosaic on the wall with pictures of different divisions of the military. It definitely added to the theme and was tastefully decorative at the same time. If we ever come back to this location, I’ll be sure to visit again and hang out for longer!

This place has a great menu: beer & burgers, lots of beer. We split a bacon pimento burger which was very good. It came with onion rings which were also very good. I got bacon wrapped brat bites as an appetizer. It was enough for two. They were slightly over cooked but I eat them all. Tasty.

This joint has a lot of potential and certainly delivers with beer selections but is lacking in the burger category. For the life of me I cannot fathom how a burger restaurant can run out of tomatoes during a weekend lunch rush. Several other reviewers have mentioned kitchen supply in their reviews as well. And the prices are high relative to the portion size. If it’s higher quality meat that is costing me more money — I certainly couldn’t taste it, even without the tomato.

Great burger, great beer selection, great mission. A little expensive… 13 $ for a nice bison burger with some toppings, but a nice open atmosphere, and tasty food. Service good too. If you love beer, defintiley a good place. If you like burgers, a good place. If you love America, you will love Beer Army(partially kidding). Yummy.

My family and I ended up camping near New Bern and stumbled across this restaurant on their city map. First off, it was family friendly which we loved since we had 3 kids in tow. We had to wait a minute for a table to accommodate our size but nothing atypical. While we were waiting the hostess answered lots of questions from us regarding their beer and growlers that you can fill, take home and bring back for refill. We thought this was awesome especially if you are into trying different craft beers. When we were seated Lauren did a great job servicing our table. She was very patient and stayed on top to make sure we were ok and didn’t need anything. I ordered a bison burger and chose my own toppings, with sweet potato fries and a side salad. The salad looked like it could have been a meal alone so for $ 1.50 more that was a deal! The blue cheese dressing had chunks of blue cheese in it which I loved. My sweet potato fries were awesome. Lastly my burger was cooked to perfection(medium well). I liked it so much I didn’t even add dressing to my burger. I was really full by the time I was done. I also had the craft beer for beer army and it was creamy and thick IPA. It went well with my burger and I liked it so much I got a crawler(as they call it) can to go which they fill and seal there so I could have some later as well. Overall the restaurant is really clean and everyone was friendly. For a Saturday afternoon it was a great place to grab lunch. We didn’t wait long for the food and the service was great. Including Lauren who did a great job answering all our questions as well! If we ever come through here again I look forward to stopping here!

I stumbled on this place while walking around downtown, the wait staff was friendly and helpful. This is a pet peeve of mine, if you are going to have an «open kitchen» please make sure your kitchen staff looks like they belong in an open kitchen.(Take the flipping Bluetooth out of your ear, have clean uniforms/aprons etc) not saying that to be mean but it’s an open kitchen the guests can see you, you represent the restaurant. I know it’s not a 5 star joint but have a little class! Jeans sagging, dirty shirts don’t work. The menu is small with options to add on stuff etc, it is what it says it is, a burger joint. Sadly they must be getting used to ordering etc. not sure on a Monday how you could be out of 3 types of burgers, then yell 86 tomatoes? Really it’s a burger bar. I’m assuming I got the very last slice of tomato in the house because it was a little sliver of the end. The burger itself, was nothing to write home about. I did the daisy with bison. It should have been a bison burger, topped with slaw, onions, chili and cheddar. I had essence of chili, but it clearly did not make a mess like I had hoped for. The prices are a little high for what you actually get. 14 bucks for a burger then don’t forget to add 4 for French fries.(The fries were pretty good) Bottom line, I’ll be back in a month or so when you pull it together, I wanted to love this place but it has kinks to work out.

Beer Army has brought to downtown New Bern the best of both worlds. They feature a wide variety of up to 16 craft beers on tap, and thousands of bottled craft beer inside the pub in their bottle shop. You can find a variety of appetizers to suit the munchies and beer cravings. There are several fresh ground beef burger varieties to choose from. You will not walk away unsatisfied.
