I had a small leak in my tiled shower floor. I Contacted Perfect Touch Tile. The owner Steve and his assistant came to the house on a Friday to look at the job. Upon his arrival I immediately showed him where the leak was coming from and told him that I knew there was a small leak in the shower pan. He then stated that I may have a leak in the water pipes, which were on the opposite side of the bathroom, and that the water could be leaking there and running across the floor and underneath my shower. I told him that was not possible and again told him it was a small leak in the pan. He then said I might have a leak in the roof and that the water may be running down the wall. I again told him that was not the case. After several minutes of this(that should have been my sign) my wife suggested that he simply pop off the one tile from where the water was leaking, which he did, and… VOILA! There was the leak, a small tear in the pan. At this point, Steve began telling me that it would be a lot cheaper if I just let him clean and replace my grout. He also stated that where he came from, up North, they don’t even use shower pans and that people down South are the only ones who use pans.(another missed sign). I said that would not solve the problem because tile and grout are not 100% waterproof and that was the whole purpose for the pan and asked him if he could replace the pan. He stated that he could and quoted me a price. He then said I would have to pay him half of the price upfront, which I did,(my mistake again). He then told me that he had recently attended a school where he learned that metal pans were the new and better thing to use as opposed to the old PVC type material; which I later found out to be totally false. No one has used metal pans in years. I agreed to hire him(yeah, I know). He returned several days later to start the job. After he and his partner made numerous trips through my house tracking mud, grass, etc., I asked Steve to please put down runners on my carpet, which he did not even have, and had to drive to town to purchase. During the day I noticed several problems with the quality of Steve’s work and pointed them out to him, which he would then have to redo. Steve left for the day. The next day he returned to resume work but I had to work so my wife was at home. When I returned home that night I saw numerous problems with the work Steve had done that day. I then contacted another contractor to come by the following morning and look at the job Steve had done. The next morning when Steve arrived, the second contractor and I confronted him with all the problems I had discovered. After several minutes of discussion Steve became upset and stormed out of the bathroom stating that he didn’t need this and he would just ****ing leave. He went outside and began loading his tools on his truck. I approached Steve and told him I expected him to return my money, however he did not agree, stating that I should not have brought in another contractor to evaluate his work. Steve then left. I later had 3 other contractors look at Steve’s work and all three stated that if I had let him continue I would have surely had immediate problems and would have had to rebuild the entire thing. I subsequently had to tear out everything that Steve had built and rebuild it from the start. I also sued Perfect Touch Tile & Grout in Small Claims court in Craven County and won that suit. As of this date I have not received any payment from them. I also have a useless $ 350.00 metal shower pan lying out in my yard. I would not recommend hiring PTT&G for anything whatsoever.
