Changing my review to two stars. Woke up at 1 am with cramps in my tummy. I thought maybe it was the antibiotics. I do not think so because I had my refrigerator left overs for lunch and after 30 min cramps again. Glad I stayed in to watch the big games today. I do not think I will be back anytime soon. I will give it a second chance one day.

Hole in the wall Chinese/Japanese restaurant. They also serve Hibachi dishes as well. Food here is fantastic! Always hot and fresh! The sweet and sour chicken is amazing! I always get my food to go and never eat in. They have a variety of homemade sauces to choose from and are very friendly. Prices are very cheap. You get a ton of food for your money!

I try not to judge a book by it’s cover but in this case I absolutely SHOULD have. I ordered egg rolls but when I cut it open I smelled cinnamon! Who puts cinnamon in an egg roll? I’ve never tasted such a grotesque egg roll in my life. When my veggie«hibachi» came out, it too was INEDIBLE. The three bites I did take caused me such a bad stomach ache that I spent the next few hours close to the bathroom. This is not a quality or clean restaurant and definitely not Japanese or Chinese food worth eating. When I asked the waitress if the egg rolls had cinnamon in them, she didn’t know and didn’t even ask why I hadn’t eaten my meal. I will never go back!

This is my favorite Asian restaurant in New Bern. It has both Japanese and Chinese food. This is the only place in town that I can order SHRIMP sauce with my Chinese food! I like to smother my General Cho’s chicken with that stuff! Delicious! They have a pick up window, so if you’re military and in uniform, you don’t have to leave the car! I always call to place my take out order when i get off work and it’s always ready at the window for me.

I ordered the Hibachi Chicken. The food came out quickly. The sauce on the chicken was creamy and savory, wonderful. The sweet tea was very good. I would go again and try other things. I appreciated the stoneware plate and metal fork as opposed to throw away cutlery and dinnerware used at some Hibachi places. I first thought the portion size could have been larger, but then was very full when I was finished; so it was just right. The fried rice with the hibachi was simple but good, no eggs or veggies in it.

Great service but food was disappointing. Had chicken teriyaki and the chicken was cut into square shaped cubes and teriyaki sauce drizzled on top. It wasn’t that great. Vegetables seemed to be recooked and were somewhat soft and not crisp and fresh. Fried rice looked like brown rice… not your typical fried rice with egg an vegetables. I won’t go here again.

Great service, very personable, consistent food quality, and timely take out. My son always gets lo mein, I have had a variety, my other half enjoys the general cho’s. Consistent food quality–

Two stars is plenty. Let’s not get carried away here people. The food is OK not great and pretty cheap. They give you one fork, no knife nor spoon wrapped in a flimsy napkin. If you want a knife you can ask for one. The service is great if the Filipino lady serves you. I don’t know what is Chinese or what is Japanese. perhaps Teriyaki is japanese. Who knows for sure. No atmosphere what so ever. Is it a crime to decorate a restaurant in this town? I go there for a change of pace and am never disappointed but then my expectations are very low.

Loved everything! Food was really good and at such a fair price. Portions are big so no worries about not being full. Service was great and everyone was really friendly. My favorite part was at the end of the meal they brought us each a lollipop for our«Happy Plate» I will be coming here a lot!

Nice little local Asian restaurant. The women that run it are very nice and the prices are very reasonable. The dinner specials were great and the beef and zucchini was delicious.

A great little place that is quite inexpensive. I’d say a good place for a group of friends who are willing to share meals. I’ve gotten the egg rolls, habachi noodles with shrimp, and also miso soup. It was all delicious, and served at a good time. The appetizer came out, then after we had finished they gave us about 5 minutes for the main course. Perfectly timed. Also, the drinks were kept well filled and you never had to worry about calling a waitress over for refills. Lastly, the amount of food that they served is quite nice. It’s enough for my younger sister(11) and I(17) to split the meal, and still have enough left over to bring home for another meal.

Great! Neat atmosphere. Not boring. Lively and cute! Good food. Nice variety. They aren’t very flexible though in customizing your dishes.

Awesome asian in an unassuming venue. As my fellow Unilocalers know I rarely give 5 stars, that way when I do, you know it was good and I’ve dined in many places with lots of points of reference. I’ve passed this place hundreds of times over the past few years and it never gave me any incentive to enter. On a whim we decided to give it a try since we didn’t want to drive 40 miles for some decent asian food. I’m glad we decided to be adventurous. First of all, the post about the dining room looking like an insane asylum is a little ridiculous, but it isn’t a fine dining atmosphere either. Just to reiterate, this is no frills dining but they have take out available and service is fast if you just want to get it and go home. The sanitation rating is a 97.5 which is a little low for me normally but acceptable range for asian. We tried the crab rangoon and shrimp ring appetizers. Both were served with a sweet and sour sauce. The rings were a little bready but both were absolutely amazing. The rangoon just the right blend and consistency and the shell had a perfect crunch. There is a monthly special of about 3 entrees that are served with rice for $ 5.65 with nice portions. My dining companion tried the General ‘Cho’ which was one of the specials and while the chicken was a tad bready but the sauce was perfection with just the right touch of spice. I ordered the steak teriyaki entrée. It came with mixed veggies which consisted of carrots, onions and broccoli, plus clear soup for $ 7.95 and for another $ 1 i added a side salad. The ginger dressing was obviously homemade and had a great bite to it, but the lettuce was a little large but that has been my experience at most asian restaurants. Drinks were served in cans for .95 or you could get tea for around $ 1.69. Regarding service, this does appear to be a family operation, which is perfectly fine with me. The server was probably the daughter she was to the point and provided fast, efficient service. She was very friendly and offered us some additional sauces to try with our meals. Refills were often, before our drinks got empty; if you order the can(which we did not) you have to pay for each one.

This place does seem like one you want to pass on by as you’re driving up to it and even after entering. The place was packed so we thought the food must be good and great Unilocal reports too so we stayed. The seaweed salad was really GOOD! but the main course was pretty standard. I would go back however.

i don’t understand the rave reviews. Yes, the staff was friendly, but the dining room has the industrial ambience of a soon to be condemned insane asylum, and the food I was served was mediocre at best. The menu offered a choice of thawed frozen meats that were cooked and then flavored up with one type or another of bottled goopy sauce. It’s no wonder the waitress was stymied when I asked her what the best dish in the house was! It was all crap, and perhaps she does not care for bland, overcooked and hacked together simulated some type of Asian food either. As I woefully picked through my meal, I struggled to find any actual fresh ingredients beyond a few razor thin slices of generic white mushroom in the«clear broth». As is often the case here in Eastern NC, many restaurants like to group everything Asian they can think of into a single Asian-Southern-redneck dining extravaganza. I was offered gyoza, hibachi, seaweed salad, general’s chicken, egg foo young, miso soup, curry, crab rangoon, and yes — an obligatory cellophane-wrapped fortune cookie after the meal. All that was missing was the all-too-common all-you-can-eat feeding trough for all of us to eat and share our germs from. I suppose some Walmart shoppers will consider the Sumo Bowl a good value, but those same folks think the same of Pizza Hut or McDonalds, and I would not share such an opinion with them.

Lunch had me visit this restaurant and I still wish I had opted for my original idea and ordered the Curry Chicken… but I went with the Sesame Chicken instead. I gave it the term, «Air Fluffed Chicken Pastries.» The chicken itself was small and hard to find, covered by lots of frying batter instead. The sauce was overly sweet. The steamed white rice was a disappointment. The crab rangoons were delicious, absolutely the best I’ve had which saved the review of the Sesame Chicken, I will be back to this place, the food wasn’t bad at all and service was fair.

Two words… A-MAZING! We went for lunch and walked in about 11:40 and the place was empty so we had a choice of tables and were quickly brought our drink orders and then started with the appetizer«Beef Nigimaki» Which the waitress dubbed«Beef Negi». It was 6 grilled beef wrapped around green scallions and topped with teriyaki sauce. for $ 5.95). Excellent choice. Then for lunch we tried the Hibachi Shrimp($ 6.25) and the Teriyaki Shrimp($ 6.50) Both came out steamin’ hot and SODELICIOUS! Both plates came with the perfectly grilled vegetables of onions, carrot and zuchinni and Mushrooms… the teriyaki shrimp had brocolli). Service was great, they checked on us several times. Not sure about this, but it looked like a mom and Pop shop with the daughter as the waitress and mom helping out in back and looked like the chef. Was he a good one. I will certainly go back. Oh by the way, the health dept. grade was a 97.0.

What a nice place. My wife, son, and I were greeted by a very friendly waitress who led us to our table. We had 2 beef egg rolls– which were VERYVERY good and my wife had some«awesome» Miso Soup. We ordered the Hibachi Chicken and the Hibachi Shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious. For the price we paid(about $ 18.00 total bill), it was well worth every penny! We will definitely be going back. In comparison to another local hibachi place, Sumo Bowl had the same type meal for about 1⁄3 the price. Highly recommend.
