The Hideout on the Horseshoe

Great Texas get-​away! They offered free transportation to the river for tubing & concert. Burgers & fajita dinner was provided to all guests on Saturday night. Easy river access on the property. The only thing we will do differently is bring a cook top or small BBQ pit.

A gorgeous venue with an incredible staff. Patrick and his crew were amazing at making sure everything ran smoothly, and were so accommodating. We had some out of the ordinary requests, and without hesitating everyone helped out. Every time I went to do something myself, I was stopped before lifting a finger. We thought our wedding weekend was perfect, and everyone seemed to agree. We received numerous complements on how absolutely perfect the weekend was. If you are looking for a Texas weekend wedding getaway, you have found it.

Easily the nicest place on the Guadalupe River. (Although I would rather stay at the JW Marriott in SA.) The Hideout is really more enjoyable with a group of friends than a date night. I can see where people would want to take over the whole place and have a wedding. Its really ideal if your going to go to a concert at Whitewater next door. They include shuttles and a catered dinner from Coopers in the Summer.

My husband and I stayed there and went to a concert. We loved the free tubing and transportation to the concert venue — on a Saturday. We rented the honeymoon suite. We did share a balcony with the neighbors but… that wasn’t too bad. We were in cabin 17 so there was a little area in which to sit that was not in full view of the neighbors during the night. We could retire inside of the pleasing cabin if we tired of the neighbors.
A few negatives are; we were not informed of a free shuttle to the tubing area (on Saturday), free transportation to and from the concert venue, or that we could have had free catered bbq on Saturday. That is why I did not give 5 stars. Communication could be improved upon.
Do not expect internet or cell phone access and you will not be disappointed. I think iphones could get connectivity if they were near the pavilion (at least that is what a neighbor indicated). We brought a laptop and a netbook but we could have left them at home because we were unable to access the internet.
It would have been wonderful if they had provided a list of restaurants and grocery stores that were in the area — as well as the amenities that they provided (especially since we could not get internet access). They could easily include information (a laminated paper perhaps?) in the prepared packet they gave us at check-​in. Which by the way is not at the cabins but at the whitewater tubing and concert venue area.
It is pricey but I thought it was worth it — especially if we had known and taken advantage of all the included perks. The ambiance was great. The balcony in the honeymoon suite was very relaxing. I sat outside and viewed the landscape, listened to the birds, saw some scavenger raccoons, and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. The grounds were well cared for and it was a nice place to spend a few nights.
The TV was set to music when we arrived and it stayed there until I pushed the wrong button on the remote (perhaps some instructions about operating the controls would be useful). When I figured out how to get the music channels back there was a nice variety of music to enjoy via the TV.
Even though I am mentioning the cons — I have booked a future stay — so there are many pros! I just hope that it is not noisy as a previous reviewer stated. I could not book the honeymoon suite this time so I might very well be sharing a wall. In addition, I will have to go on a Sunday and Monday night. So, I am not sure if I will get free tubing on a Monday.
I expected an oven. They don’t have one. It is more like staying in a hotel. They do have a large refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. I think they provided a few Styrofoam cups. I brought my own cups and coffee. I don’t remember seeing any coffee or filters. So bring coffee for a drip coffee maker, filters, and coffee cups if you enjoy a good cup of coffee. In fact, if you can, bring your own coffeemaker. I spent a bit of time trying to clean the residue from previous occupants’ coffee making out of the drip style coffee maker. I had brought a melitta type of coffee maker but since there was not a stovetop or electric kettle that was useless. However, I did use the filters I brought in their coffeemaker. (Coffee is an important start to my day so I am inclined to bring items needed to make adequate coffee in the morning.)
The honeymoon suite had a nice bathtub. The water got hot quickly in cabin 17 and had great water pressure. The bathroom was nice and I loved the copper tub!
A sound machine and eye mask would be wonderful additions to their honeymoon suite or any of their rooms for that matter — especially if there are sound issues from neighboring cabins.
I thought the cabin was clean but really did not spend much time inside. Besides the communication issues a really good coffee maker would be a nice improvement. I think they could improve on communicating — available amenities, how to access activities, TV instructions, and local guides — to their guests. However, despite the few negatives I LOVED staying there and expect to stay again many times in the future! The staff was great and informative — if you knew the right questions to ask.
If you want to go to a concert, tube down a cool (temperature) river, and have a nice relaxing few nights then rent a place here. I will try to remember to update after I have stayed in a different cabin, e.g. noise level.
If you stay in the honeymoon cabin you have a little walk but if you ask a staff member they will cheerfully provide a ride on their golf cart for your heavy belongings. Did I mention the staff were wonderful?
I think the owners and/​or management must be nice to the staff because the staff were all very cheerful, happy, and accommodating. In fact, I don’t think I have ever experienced such a uniformly wonderful and cheerful staff on other holidays!

In full disclosure, this review is based solely on my booking experience. We have yet to stay at the Hideout because of the negative booking experience, so treat this review accordingly. The property is absolutely gorgeous; however, their booking policy is misaligned with their marketing.
The Hideout is walking distance from the Whitewater Amphitheater. We are coming from Austin to see The Avett Brothers there in July, and The Hideout prominently advertises on the Whitewater Amphitheater website as a place to stay if you’re in town for a show. We were absolutely thrilled at the possibility of not only seeing one of our favorite bands, but also being able to stay at such a beautiful property on the river that’s walking distance from the show. After attempting to book a reservation online, I was sent an email the next day that declined our reservation with no explanation. After calling the The Hideout, I was informed it was declined because they require a two-​night minimum. After digging through the fine print on the site, I found this policy buried, no where visible when I tried booking the reservation.
It is understandable for a small property like this to require a two-​night stay, especially during the summer or peak season. My issue with the policy is that The Hideout is clearly marketing to concert goers attending shows at The Whitewater Amphitheater. Anyone coming in town for a show is only going to be there for the night. In addition, as another Unilocaler pointed out, the rooms at The Hideout are a bit pricey. The cheapest room is around $ 300/​night during the peak season, all in. Given how beautiful The Hideout is, I’m happy to pay this much for the night of the show; however, requiring me to pay another $ 300 for a night we don’t need is, well, egregious. Even worse, it would appear The Whitewater Amphitheater and The Hideout are owned by the same owner (emails from both come from the same address). It’s a shame the owner has so clearly missed the mark in terms of aligning its marketing efforts and policies with the needs of its potential customers. In my case, I’m sad to say that ‘potential’ may never become ‘actual’ unless they make some changes.

Really cool place with great access to the river. It’s very beautiful and serine*. The rooms are homey with enough amenities to keep you comfortable. They set you up with a ride to common tubing points just up the road.
*cross your fingers and hope you don’t have drunkards in the room next to you. Paperthin walls — seriously.

Anything on a river is beautiful, and this place is no different. There is nothing like having fresh water as a backdrop for any event, let alone a wedding.
Matt J. and I came here for our friend’s wedding and it was just a perfect spot. They were able to rent out the entire venue so that a lot of their friends and family could all stay there together, which made for great bonding the night before the actual ceremony. The site is comprised of a series of cabins, all wooden and rustic style, with huge back patios and balconies that overlook the river, accented with luscious green trees and a few outdoor sitting areas as well including some outdoor firepits. The cabins themselves are really nice, but they definitely were a little pricier than I thought they would be even with the group/​wedding discount. And the cabins that say they have three bedrooms, well it is lie. One of the beds (the bed we got stuck with) is literally in the living room. The outdoor/​front window looks directly onto the bed! So just plan for that if that is one of the cabins you rent out. There are one bedroom and two bedroom ones as well and they all come with a fridge and stuff which is nice. There is also a playground for kids (or adults! ha ha) and horseshoes too.
If you walk down to the river itself, there is another stoned patio area which is where the wedding ceremony took place. Just beautiful. There are a fair amount of stairs so for guests who might not be able to handle those, this venue might not be the best, but having all of those trees and the river as a backdrop was awesome. They also have a larger covered outdoor area and if you bring in a tent to cover more seating it is a fun spot to have a reception or any party and plenty of space for caterers to set up and prep food.
It really is in the middle of nowhere. Other than a gas station, one bar and a bunch of churches there isn’t anything else around here, which is great for any type of party or wedding, that secluded feeling is hard to find at times, let alone in a place as beautiful as this.

I recently held my wedding at the Hideout on The Horseshoe in New Braunfels (10÷11÷08), and first and foremost let me just say that the property itself is absolutely gorgeous. The location is PERFECT and the overall feel of the place is definitely one-​of-​a-​kind. You can really tell that whoever designed the place put a lot of thought into every detail.
The grounds were clean, the rooms immaculate, and the staff helpful. On a special note — the gentleman that works at the property round the clock (I don’t remember his name), was awesome! He was very courteous and helpful, and an interesting conversationalist to boot.
The rooms can get a bit pricey, esp. during the «in season», but overall — you really do get what you pay for — and that is an amazing, truly authentic, Texas hill country retreat.
