In the land of grease trucks, the Soupervan is a healthy mouthful of good food. One of the best tempeh sandwiches I’ve tasted and yummy, great for cold days, vegan chili. The guy who runs the place is nice and takes the time to chat up his customers. A portion of the earnings goes to the local soup kitchen, Elijah’s promise. I am just happy to have this place as an option other than Dunkin Donuts or fat sandwiches. Keep an eye out for this van and follow them on facebook to see where they are.

My friend & I across this truck one nice biking Saturday at The Oval. There were 4 trucks there and this one stood out to us the most. We were reading the truck when the guy inside checked if we’ve heard of them before; since we haven’t, he explained what they do which I think is execellent! «Every meal you purchase helps provide a meal to someone less fortunate in your local community.» Basically, every meal you buy, they provide a meal to the local food bank. It’s not hard to help out either since their food is good! My friend & I decided we’d get something to share and ended up with the FIJIBBQ which was fantastic! Never had anything like it. We also got their special watermelon deink with other fruits and veggie inside. If you like watermelon you’d probably like this. Also, their chef is trying to learn kung fu and since I am learning kung fu, I felt the need to contribute to his tuition; the friendly staff and awesome customer service didn’t hurt either. My friend went back to contribute to the fund and they offered her a free refill on the watermelon drink. Excited for the next time we run into them! (Oh yeah, they are usually in Jersey.) Thanks to Soupervan for coming down to Philadelphia. Had a wonderful Fuji BBQ wrap — great flavors, kind of like a Vietnamese Bahn Mi in a wrap with tasty slaw and delicious chicken. Hoping that you are able to make it out to more locations in PHL in the coming months!

SouperVan has set up camp on Busch campus… and I am officially addicted. Seriously, have to stop and get soup after morning class on Tuesdays, even as the bus home rolls away… RU Stew is so delicious you don’t even remember how healthy it is. Broccoli Cheddar soup is fabulous comfort food. They also have the best whole wheat rolls that they give you with each soup. The Hershey kisses in the bag are also an adorable addition :) The only wrap I’ve gotten so far is the Hungry Bunny and I see why people like it, but I think I would enjoy it more in the summer since it is very crisp and refreshing. Glad I can help the community while filling my belly with soup!

TOFINDOUTWHERETHEYAREPARKEDFORTHEDAY&SEETHEIRMENU: Considering this food truck landed on the top 10 food trucks in NJ by he NJ Monthly Magazine( ) I expected very high standards when it comes to trying the food here. First I must say that the people working on the truck are amazing, always friendly with a smile plastered to their face and have a lot of knowledge about the food they are serving. As a closet health nut, I truly appreciate this. A place where the people making and serving food made with very forward thinking ingredients such as tempeh, satan, and cruelty-free chicken, etc… actually have a very deep knowledge of these ingredients that they are using. I find it refreshing that I can come here and Nik(one of the co-founders) not only can tell me what it’s made of, but also where it originates from, how it is made, and the best way of making it if you are interested in experimenting making it yourself. What service! For the vegetarians and gluten free people there are plenty of options for you here. They can make any sandwich vegetarian and/or gluten free, just ask and they will be happy to tell you what your options are. Anyway, back to the food, the soups and sandwiches are all very innovative and the combinations of ingredients are uncommon but amazingly and surprisingly delicious. If you are someone who is nervous about trying new things, this place is the place to go, everything served has a little twist to it and so good I develop new cravings each time I try something new. I also appreciate that they use as much organic and local ingredients as they can. AND the best part of this food truck, is that for every meal you purchase they purchase a meal to the Elijah’s Promise soup kitchen. That’s a win-win-win in my book!

Wonderful place to go to for lunch! I’m a «healthy-food» addict and it’s hard to find healthy menu choices around New Brunswick. Reasonably priced for the food and service they are giving you. And like every other reviewer said, each purchase helps support the local soup kitchen! I’m really surprised and happy with their concept. It’s a very difficult concept to put forth but these guys can really pull it off! Keep it up Soupervan! From your number 1 fan haha

Awesome, healthy and delicious food. Workers are very nice and their business are supporting the local community. The best part is that they have halal meat! Doesn’t get any better than this. I would definitely say the food is worth it and try their signature drink. I can’t wait to try their soup in the winter. =)

I seriously love this truck and the people who work here. The sincere joy with which they serve you is pretty contagious. The food is great too! I’m vegan and I’ve always felt welcome here. The hungry bunny and the miso hungry wraps with tempeh are filled with delicious crisp vegetables and are extremely filling, although a little messy to eat. Given the quality of the ingredients, the food is very reasonably priced. I love washing it all down with the strawberry aqua fresca. I would love it if they introduced some vegan desserts when they return next semester.

Delicious!!! Best fresh, healthy food ’round these parts. Fiji BBQ is my fave, but I haven’t had anything I didn’t like. Bonus: Each purchase helps feed a food insecure person! What else could you want out of lunch?

SouperVan blows the grease trucks out of the water! I’ve eaten there about 5 times and am never disappointed. Their sandwiches & presses are always amazing, the soups and chilis are awesome. The aqua fresca drinks are delicious and refreshing. Everything is yummy and healthy too which is hard to find in New Brunswick. They always have many vegan options as well. SouperVan costs a bit more money than the grease trucks but a) the food is way better(in taste as well as quality) and b) you’re helping a good cause by eating there. Oh and the people who work there are always extremely nice and helpful. I would recommend SouperVan a million times over!

Great amazing food. Fresh ingredients, usually all organic if not all. The people who work there are really nice. The chili is to die for! Plus the fact that a meal is going to someone who really needs it doesn’t hurt either. I wish they had more than one truck so they could be at multiple locations!

We’ve already been to the Soupervan a handful of times, and the food has yet to disappoint. I will say the prices are a bit too high, even for good food and a good cause. Half a sandwich(very small portion) for $ 6 is just too much. The chili is reasonably priced, however, and tastes great. Check out their Facebook page for daily menu updates and specials. Definitely check this truck out if you’re an RU student or if you work/live in New Brunswick. It’s a pleasant, healthy change of pace.

I must say that this is great. I had heard about this a long time ago through the brother of one of the owners and had never really seen it until now. I love that they’re getting so popular, the idea/concept is great. The people working in the truck are super nice and the food is healthy and it goes towards a good cause, what could be better? To my excitement they have vegetarian options and I’m sure there’s vegan if you just ask for certain things off. I ordered the Hungry Bunny, pretty good. a little big and messy for my taste but still yummy. I’m always so awkward with big wraps but I got through it ha. I ordered the soup of the day: tomato bisque and AHHHHHHHHH. I loved it. I’m all about Old Man Raff’s tomato bisque and this is just as good, if not better then there’s. Plus, it’s closer to work for me too. My friends enjoyed the chili and the apple nachos. Yay for a healthy option that gives back to the community. They take cash and credit. I’ve only ever seen them on Busch campus by the ARC bus stop. I’m sure they are at other locations, I just haven’t spotted them anywhere else. Definitely try them. It’s healthy and it gives back to RAH and Elijah’s Promise. Can’t feel bad about going!

This is the best food truck to come to Rutgers ever! Blows Greasetrucks away! Why would you want a Fat Darrell when you can have the Fiji BBQ press? I’m pretty sure this truck just launched but I’ve been following them on Facebook and Twitter and have been lucky enough to try their free presses – The Fiji BBQ press was delicious, as were the cannolis and the Scarlet Berry Punch. Agua Fresca is sooo good too! Love the yellow truck and the best part is that when you support the Soupervan, you’re combating hunger in the area because the truck will buy a meal at the NB food bank/soup kitchen for every meal that it sells. Pretty amazing concept. Can’t wait to see this truck rolling around campus regularly, it’s the perfect stop for lunch or a snack. The staff is great too, super friendly and efficient. Love you Soupervan! :)

Revamped as of 10/14/2011: My housemate introduced me to this place tonight as the«anti-grease-truck.» Think of a grease truck, but replace the grease truck food that’s apparently great when you’re drunk(I haven’t tried grease truck food yet) with healthy, delicious, affordable foods where you can simultaneously help out the community! When you buy a meal there, they donate a meal to the local soup kitchen(Elijah’s Promise), so you’re also doing a good deed. :] They try to use all locally grown produce, and they’re doing a pilot testing of their menu right now. I believe their menu will change every week(depending on the available ingredients/seasons). I broke my vow to cook all my food at home/not buy any outside food until I finished eating everything I had at home by coming here, but it was so, so worth it!(Twas my celebratory meal, so I decided to «splurge.» :) I decided to get a «whole» Fiji Apple Double Fold for $ 9(comes with a 10 oz. drink). «Whole wheat tortilla, smoked gouda, caramelized onions, agave mustard, royal purple apple slaw with chicken.» But! Since everything on the menu looked amazing, I decided to do a half-half swap with my housemate. They cut the«whole» into halves and wrap them individually, so my housemate got the Hungry Bunny with chicken(whole wheat pita with zaatar(?) hummus, carrots, peppers, cucumbers, greens, chicken & dressing – basically all sorts of goodness in it). The drink I got was the watermelon agua fresca(super refreshing!). Cannolis are $ 1.25, and they’re super amazing. I think they’re going to start making their own filling for it soon(possibilities of raspberry-infused or with chocolate sprinkles). The apple nachos are reallyyy good, and the pumpkin chili comes with cornbread, which is perfect for a cold and rainy day. I’ve also had the Acapulco Double Press, the Miso Hungry, Scarlet Bite, RU Stew(comes with whole wheat roll), and the Pumpkin Turkey Chili. You get a good amount for what you pay, and the people working there are so friendly! A win in my book on all accounts! Delicious and healthy food at very reasonable prices, great staff, very welcoming and receptive to customer feedback, close to my place, and an awesome name…(I also like their logo. :P) The lights under the van are pretty awesome too. Keeps me entertained while I wait for my food(they make it quick too!). Pleaseeee give this place a try! It’s truly amazing! I really hope they stay on College Ave… or Busch! All the prices include tax already! They take cash, credit and debit! :] UPDATE: I have officially eaten the entire menu(and not a moment too soon, since they’re about to start changing it up again!), and can vouch for all of em’. THEYAREAMAZING.

I’m going to be honest with you, New Brunswick, because you’re a big boy and I think you can handle it. Your food sucks. There are a couple gems here and there, but for the most part I wonder if you even know what good food should taste like. But… wait for it… Soupervan! Ahhh soupervan. Come to save the campus from gross, greasy, bland, food.(That’s right, I like the Oxford comma. Deal with it.) They’re doing a little test run before the official opening in October and the food was fantastic. I got a smoked tempeh on a whole wheat wrap with smoked gouda, agave mustard, apple slaw, and shredded purple cabbage. Swoon. The prelude to the meal was an aqua fresca — pureed strawberries with lemon and water on ice. There were lots of vegan options, a lot of organic foods, breakfast options(egg white frittata, mini bagel with hummus), and dessert — all with an emphasis on local sourcing. Oh and soup. A portion of every sale goes towards Rutgers Against Hunger and Elija’s Promise. Also, they take credit cards.
