This place was pretty amazing even if it just opened up. It looks like they’re always busy. My most favorite thing about here is that we can mix and match what tacos a person can eat. That’s a pretty smart tactic to lure in customers in.(:

Loved it!!! Very quaint! Make sure you take cash but you do not need much! Authentic, fresh, made to order! Enjoy! Don’t dismiss it because it doesn’t look like much on the outside!

Excellent food. Small little hidden place. But best place I’ve found since I moved to New Jersey.

Food seemed authentic but overall everything was pretty bland. Probably wouldn’t come back. The guac is great though.

I love this place. This is the place where I first tried authentic Mexican food about 4 years ago. I’ve been coming back to this place from time to time ever since, and every time I leave a satisfied customer. There is always ample parking right outside the restaurant. The place could definitely use an upgrade in terms of appearance, but that never bothers me unless I feel like the place is actually dirty. I do tend to avoid this place when it’s too hot or cold outside because the heat and a/c in this place aren’t adequate in my opinion. A lot of the staff members that work here aren’t too good at english, so expect to repeat your order a few times and point at the menu for them to fully understand what you want. They always give you free chips with two types of salsa to start you off. The red salsa tastes like some sort of chili sauce, and it is absurdly spicy. I imagine this is what fire tastes like. I can’t eat more than a few chips with this, and I commend anyone who can eat this salsa like it’s no big deal. The green salsa is much better for my taste buds(since it doesn’t make me want to cry). It is only a little bit spicy, and I love the flavor that it has. The chips usually taste very fresh, but one of the times I came here, the first batch of chips did seem a little stale… The batch after that seemed completely normal. I typically order the chicken enchiladas verde with rice and beans. It’s one of those dishes that are so good that I don’t feel comfortable ordering anything else as my entrée because of the slight chance it might not be as good. The chicken enchiladas verde are just that amazing. The verde sauce is delicious, and the chicken enchiladas nicely absorb the sauce. The rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, and sour cream all perfectly complement the enchiladas. I am starting to salivate as I write this review. I was also able to try a few bites of the chorizo burrito, the chicken enchiladas in a tomato-y sauce, and the beef tongue taco. They are all exceptional as well. This place takes cash only, but there is an ATM at the restaurant on the corner of the same street. The prices are more than reasonable here. I recommend eating at the place to get access to the unlimited chips and salsa… not sure if they usually give you any if you get takeout instead. I can’t wait to come back here again!

Food was really good and so was the service. The only con is that they do not accept card as a payment

Greatest hole in the wall Mexican joint! I’ve been craving some authentic tacos one day and decided to come here to order their tongue tacos. Yes, sounds gross, but it is a muscle, just like the muscle off of a cow’s shoulders. The meat was so tender and had all the right pairings in the tacos. If it wasn’t for the fact that they took cash only, I would’ve order about 5 more. So delicious!

Best place I’ve come across in a long time. The décor might not meet the standards of some but who cares about that when your mouth will thank you over and over again. Order anything cause everything’s good, especially the local drinks(tamarindo!). The service is great too, the ladies are very friendly.

I’m from California and it’s so hard to find good Mexican food on the East Coast. This is the best Mexican food I have found on the East Coast. I’m sure there are plenty more but this is relatively close to where I live I’m so happy to found a place like this to satisfy my Mexican food needs. Totally mean every star that I’ve given it!

I moved away to another part of NJ8 years and, and have not found an authentic Mexican restaurant that comes close to having the flavor and bang for your buck feeling that El Poblano offers. This place has been around for over 20 years, and I have never been disappointed. Try the carne asada tacos, and pork tamales and pozole on the weekends. I echo the majority of the sentiments. While I like Chipotle, this is THE real deal.

Small family owned restaurant in its own corner of New Brunswick. Indoor and outdoor seating. In view is the parking deck and occasional train, so its actually relaxing here. Menu sounds appetizing, they offer everything from tacos, flautas, burritos, tostadas, sopes, enchiladas, quesadillas, chiles, moles, bisteks, cesina, mariscos, and especiales. I am so far enjoying a rice and milk drink and guacamole with chips. She asked my preference of mild, medium, or spicy for the guacamole.

This is the«Where’s Waldo?» of Taquerias. Family owned, very authentic. I’m so glad I found it. I actually felt like I was in Mexico again. Great staff, very friendly and my food came out hot and spicy. Great enchiladas, great fajitas and they have amazing $ 2 tacos. All the food was great. Even found metered parking right in front of the restaurant. I’ll definitely be going here more often. Sidenote: If you think that Chipotle is authentic Mexican food, you probably won’t like Taqueria-El Poblano. This place is meant for people who appreciate«Real» Mexican food. Elite members stay away.

Great tacos! We tried pretty much all the tacos on the menu and the winners were the tacos al pastor, and the tongue(we were surprised too!). I’ve only had tacos like these in Mexico where the portions were a little bit bigger, but just as delicious. At $ 2.00 a taco, its a great, affordable meal. Great find in New Brunswick. Will have to go back to try the rest of the food.

Great place for some authentic Mexican tacos. I think the first time I went here was in 2009 and I seriously haven’t been to a taco bell since… If you like taco bell then stay away from here because they will seriously make you wonder wth you’ve been eating from taco bell all your life. I always get beef and chicken tacos with a Mexican coke when I visit. The prices are great too.

If you think that Chipotle is authentic Mexican food, you probably won’t like Taqueria-El Poblano. If you are looking for fresh, great, authentic food that’s much less expensive than Chipotle and close to George St, look no further. This place is great, and reminds me of some of the best taquerias on the west coast: very small place, family-run, can see the entire operation right in front of you. While I was there, you could see the workers slicing avocados and frying tortillas. The food was very flavorful, fresh, and delicious… and all for very cheap! Note that the address is a bit confusing– this place is more on Bayard St than New Street. If you’re walking from George st, just keep walking down Bayard St past the train tracks and it’ll be on your left.

this is the real thing! I stick with the carne asada burritos, made with fresh onions and cilantro, which are always great, the best i have EVEREATENANYWHERE, north OR south of the border! and once ordered on the phone for pick-up and it wasn’t so good. but on Saturdays you get the tamales. Their mole poblano is great too. and gotta have rice and beans, tho i figure they use lots of lard? if you like it greasy, this is soul food! I used to like to pick up food here and then make my way over to mcCormicks to drink.

You know you found the right Mexican restaurant when the server can barely speak English and has her hands covered in chopped cilantro. The place is small and the food is very authentic. I had a pork burrito which was delish. Can’t wait to try out the tacos on my next visit. To all the naysayers below, you’ll never find quality food like this at a fast food Mexican chain. But def try the Burrito Supreme at Taco Bell. Might be more your speed.

Went here with a friend some nights ago. It’s on a pretty sketchy, littered street but nothing so bad that it would keep me away. The staff is great. They blast Mexican ballads which I can appreciate. We came in and were told they were open until 2am every night and I generally love places that are open that late. Not sure if they do deliveries, though. As for the food: I ordered chicken flautas and a chicken taco on corn. The taco was great and very filling. The flautas were served with rice and beans, which were honestly negligable. You get three flautas per order if I remember correctly. The chicken isn’t all white meat, if that’s worth anything. I saw a vein popping out one of my flautas after I bit into it and that ruined my appetite just a little. But hey, that’s just me. It was still a good meal. An order of chicken flautas, a chicken taco, and a coke came to a little less than $ 10. Oh, and you get free chips and salsa.
