Great food and beer! I was very impressed by the service and the atmosphere. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to eat and drink near town! The Italian sub is awesome!!!

Finally made it out to this fine establishment yesterday for dinner. All I can say is YUMMO! For appetizers we had wings with the sweet habanero sauce and they were great! The breadsticks were very good too. While the pizza was not free(not for lack of trying… have shared and commented many times but haven’t won yet) it was sooooo good. My husband and I had the special, the fish tacos. They were everything I hoped they would be and tasted just Iike the picture looked. One of my kids had the Texas tenderloin and said it was awesome. Another of my children had the Philly Steak and he loved his too. The hand cut fries rocked! I highly recommend this place… food was wonderful and the service was great too. We’ll be back! PS. The only con(and why I didn’t give five stars) is that the beverages are not fountain so refills are not free… my kids drink a lot with their meals so this could get expensive unless we make them just drink water.

Pizza is pretty good, although a bit greasy at times… but really, it’s pizza, you should expect that! Good food. Always enjoy my food here.

Great beer selection and really good food. The only area Tom’s comes up short in is service. If they were able to improve that then this would be a five star review. The owners also support the community and local schools. If you’re in Bethel Township and looking for a place to grab a bite or drink a tasty beer go to Tom’s Deli.

We’ve been here a few times now. I really love the pizza and my partner likes the Italian sub which is also pretty tasty. So on the food front, it was a pleasant experience. From the waitress front… Jess waited on people that came in after us before bringing our drinks, and of course they got their food first. She was pretty busy bossing the waitress that actually brought our food, and then checked in passing to see how we were doing. It felt like that was for the benefit of the other customers so they didn’t know she was being a little snooty toward us. When we were finished eating and I had lost ten straight games of Keno, we waited for our check. Then, we waited for our check. After 15 minutes of – waiting for our check-my partner went to the counter where she got the check from the guy that was cooking. Jess was on top of it though, when she saw me standing at the register to pay. She sure came up with a check then! So…I recommend the food and they have 14 craft beers on tap. But as far as Jess and her ability to wait tables… if you’re a guy or an old couple, you’re in luck. Anybody else, well, she spends more time putting on her weird eyeliner than she will spend waiting on you.

Some GREAT changes to the menu here brought it from above average to SUPER! They really could slack off here if they wanted to, since they’re about the only«watering hole» in the area, just outside of DRY New Carlisle(yup!!). LOVE seeing a local place really put in the EXTRA effort and go from good to GREAT! If you can’t find the beer you want/need here, you’re really not looking. AMAZING selection of craft beers here, both in the well-organized cases(loose bottles in the cooler or on tap…) They also have frequent beer and wine tastings on Sat. nights. They’ve fine-tuned their menu to continue to offer something for everyone, but include some truly interesting specials… My roasted veggie/portobello sandwich on Sat. night was soooo good, I deliberately didn’t eat the 2nd half to be able to enjoy it again the following day. Mr. M&P had a French Dip sandwich which looked good as well. They’ve gotten rid of some of the old stuff, refined/retuned the keepers, and added some great new choices! My only gripe? DING for the surprise $ 1.00 charge for samples/tastes of the drafts… But I’m a confirmed cheapo!!! Give this place a(nother) look!

FACILITY Pulling into the lot I was struck that half the building was an occupied home. It was dark and there wasn’t a history on the menu so, think it was, but dunno. And curious is the name of the place, «Tom’s Deli», cause the only deli case I observed seemed to be leftover from perhaps a previous layout with desserts seemingly occupying the space out of obligation; neither detracted from the experience, just initial interpretations. Upon entering the facility I was at a crossroads. Do I go left to peruse the plethora of racks full of unique(presumably quality) beers, straight ahead to order at the momentarily confusing«deli» counter, or right into the bar? Wait, tables/booths in addition to the tiny little bar in the corner = the bar/restaurant area. A relatively small area, perhaps 5 booths, and probably not too many more tables, it offered both small and large which would seem awesome for a group rolling in after a softball game, or for some other reason a small group finding themselves in this small, out-of-the way town. And it was clean, somewhat«bar dark», but clean. I’ll take clean over bright. Tucked away in the corner was a «cute»(little) bar area, inviting nonetheless. Did it have twinkle lights outlining? Can’t remember, was cute though. There were either 2 or 3 TVs(gave the husband the TV vantage point), and one of them was running Keno information. What is that anyway? Sort of dividing the mini bar from the«other» side of the facility could I peer into the kitchen area to watch kitchen staff prepare food(that could be frightening had I witnessed disgusting habits, shew, didn’t happen). SERVICE Upon being seated John was on us like white on rice, which is a good thing having worked in the restaurant industry I have high expectations for being greeted quickly. Drinks were ordered and delivered, also within a reasonable amount of time. Having a tremendous hankering for a burger and wanting to «spend» my extra first-time weekly WW’s points very, very wisely, I didn’t want to commit willy nilly. Enter, John. Hands-down did he suggest/sell the 571 Haystack Burger and OHMYGAWD, wait, I’m talking about service. Although John came by to tell us our food would be out in a few, it hadn’t seemed as though it had been all THAT long, but okay, bonus service points for being attentive. I can’t recall if he came back shortly after the food was delivered to ensure if all was okay, but it was, and from a distance I could see what seemed as though he was working up a sweat. It had picked up quite a bit. At some point he did come back to make inquiry, but face deep in yummy-ness I didn’t have time for his, or anyone else’s, petty conversation. The only downside to service was the wait for the check. Not exactly sure what happened, but it wasn’t the check in a timely manner. No worries, at the end-of-the day the rest of the service/experience more than made up for that mild foul. FOOD OHMYGAWDIHAVEDONENOTHINGBUTTHINKABOUTTHATBURGER! Translation: oh. my. gawd. I have done nothing but think about that burger! ½ lb of beef(and I ate the whole d*mn thing!) and as described per the menu, with«lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapenos, applewood smoked bacon, 571 sauce, onion straws and served on a brioche bun». Not usually one for fancy-schmancy concocted burger sauces, I needed to know about this 571 sauce before messing up my splurge. Mmm, something about sour cream, blah, blah, Sriracha. Convinced by John it was the way-to-go, I went for it. It WAS the way to go, thanks John! The onion straws were sort of a surprise in that I expected a wispy little crispy onion ring type of thing, but the sautéed version didn’t create a problem in my inability to come up for much air. Husband really liked his patty melt; he too didn’t seem to have much trouble not contributing to a conversation between us once presented with. We both liked the«fresh cuts», just wondered if/how they might have been able to be a little more firm. Neither had anything special in the way of drinks, my extra points weren’t going to be liquid that night! I did note after being there awhile however, there seemed to be approximately a TON of beer choices, surprisingly including a decent number of draft considering the size of the bar. GO. TO. THIS. PLACE! (Oh dear God, and don’t let there be any truth from other reviewers about«Tom» [owner?]. To my knowledge while we didn’t see/experience him, in spite of how awesome our experience was, I would not patronize the place if the owner was a *&%$#@! and left a lot to be desired…)

This place has really evolved throughout the years. I remember when they used to have aisles with canned goods, toiletries, and dog food. Now it is a great place to get a burger and a beer, or in my case a glass of wine and play keno while watching football. The food is pretty good, pizza is a little expensive but the ingredients are fresh. It is super close to where I grew up so when I go visit my dad carry out or delivery is super convenient.

Decent food that is overpriced with a rude owner. About a decade ago my mother moved to New Carlisle and we started to go to Tom’s Deli. We really liked his food, and the service was great. However in the last five years things have changed. The prices have gone up significantly, I almost balked when I saw the new prices while taking my family out to dinner. Now onto a few thing about the man I believe to be the owner. The few run ins we have had with him have not been pleasant. While dining in on one occasion I requested a well done burger. Upon showing him the center still pink he made a rude comment about turning it into shoe leather if that’s what I really want. In the interest of avoiding confrontation I told him there was no need and asked him to throw it away, and didn’t ask for a refund. And the LAST time I went to Tom’s was not my idea. My mother sister and I went in and purchased about $ 40 worth of pizza and brownies. The«owner» told us 20 mins so we went out and waited in the car. After 20 mins we went back in and we told 15 more minutes. My sister(who is unfortunately very overweight) went is this time. She came out empty handed looking very upset. After prodding her we found out the owner had made comments to her about the brownies we had purchased. He said to her«you know those brownies in the car are for after the pizza and I’m pretty sure they were for all three of you, you didn’t eat them all did you?» And then snickered. Needless to say I was appalled that someone we had given business to would treat a customer like that. My mother had to be the one to go in and get the pizza and no one in my family has been back since. I only share this long story with you because this man has no respect for others. Remember this before you give him your hard earned money. Keep in mind you will almost always find this establishment filled to capacity for one reason alone. They are the only restaurant near New Carlisle with a Liquor license.

Wow. how things have changed at Tom’s Deli! Hubby and I had dinner here tonight as one of the specials was walleye and he loves that. There is a larger, friendlier staff here as well as more energy than the times we have visited in the past. A small bar has been added in one corner with a few beers on tap; the craft beer selection is still great. Food was very good and the place was jumping by 6PM. The change to nicer dinner specials on the weekend has worked for them; glad to see a local pace doing well. The parking is still awful and won’t change, but get there before 6 and you should be fine.
