I know that the thought of renewing one’s driver’s license brings the thought of long lines and smelly people, but that isn’t the case at this branch of BMV. At least there weren’t any smelly people when I recently renewed my license! Plus this location is for all BMV paperwork.
Governor Daniels made fixing the Indiana BMV problem a priority. I can only speak for the New Haven branch, but he has done an excellent job! Hats off to the New Haven branch! The folks there are friendly, courteous and professional. Well done, Governor Daniels, and the great people at the New Haven branch!
Anyway, I think this is a new personal record for me — from the time I took a number, took the eye exam, renewed my license, paid my $? (Costs can vary). And took my picture, it took a total of 6 minutes! Amazing! Government moving at the speed of… government? The last time I renewed my license in Auburn it took about 10 – 15 minutes. You don’t need an appointment to renew your license at this location.
One great thing is that you can look at a timer in their branch. It posts average wait times. Or you can track it by calling them up on the phone, and then asking them what the average wait time is.

You can get an EDL/​ID — Enhanced Driver’s License/​ID Card (additional $??). This card allows you to cross the border into Canada without a passport. All you have to do to get your EDL/​ID Card is to go to their web site and read the directions. Since the government likes to change the rules.
