Hair Niche

I’m new to New Haven from Philly so finding someone to cut my (medium length) hair on the cheap was a goal of mine. After reading a few reviews on here I decided to call and make an appt with Nancy. When I called, she was booked solid for about a week and a half but I was able to score a Saturday afternoon slot. The place is cute and she did a great job! It’s inside the hotel, to the left when you enter. Very small and she told me it’s just her that cuts hair there which I thought was intriguing. We chatted a bit and it was the not-​awkward kind of chat which was great because we all know the obligatory chit-​chat that happens sometimes! Overall, great experience, my hair is looking fab, and I will be back. Check her out!

Read the glowing reviews on Unilocal and had to see for myself if the elusive $ 20 cut could be had. I called and they were booked solid for the next three days, so you definitely need to book ahead of time. The location is especially great for people who live on campus.
I had Nancy, who treated me like a regular! I don’t typically like talking with my stylists but she was just so friendly I couldn’t help myself. The entire cut took about 45 minutes, and I was very pleased with how even the cut was. She also did a fantastic job on the blowout, something I hadn’t expected for the price. I have a full head of long, layered hair so I got charged $ 25, but even with a hefty tip it was still much less than I would normally pay elsewhere.
Would recommend, and I definitely see myself coming back for regular appointments.

Nancy is a hair genius! I moved to New Haven for school and was really apprehensive about choosing a new hair salon for a long overdue haircut. Since this was the closest hair salon, I decided to check it out and I am SO happy that I did!
She gave me the nicest layers I have ever had. The layers made my hair look thicker and fuller! This is saying a lot since I have been to some pretty pricey LA hair salons in the past and Nancy’s hair cut blows theirs out of the water!
Every time I go for a blow out, the stylists blowdrying my hair always compliment me on how healthy my hair looks and how thick it is (even though I naturally have thin hair).
I will definitely be going back for a trim soon.
Oh and also, she cut my hair and blow-​dried it all for $ 20!

Nice and simple! Finding the salon wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Just go through the hotel, and it’s the small room on the left. Nancy has the place to herself so it’s quiet. I went to just get a trim and fix up my bangs, and that’s exactly what she did. No more, no less.
She wetted my hair with the spray mister to cut it, and then she blow dried it/​styled it a bit at the end. The whole thing costed $ 20, which is great! I would definitely go back to her.

Tired of being disappointed with high end hair salons in the area, so decided to give this salon a try. Nancy was great! I got a hair cut and I couldn’t ask for a better stylist. She listened to what I wanted and showed me how much she was going to cut. For $ 20 I feel like it was a steal! Also surprised that she was booked and one client after another was coming in or calling to make an appointment (big sign!). I wouldn’t go anywhere else from now on!

I love Nancy! She’s great at remembering names, facts about you, and is overall a talented barber! I trust her with my hair and will drive down 2 hours to CT just to see her. Down to earth and always a great laugh, she is fantastic.

My boyfriend has been coming here for 25 years and has never been disappointed. Now I go with him when we come to visit from NY and it’s always a pleasure and so rewarding! My hair looks amazing every time. Nancy listens and is very trustworthy. Can’t wait to see her again.

This isn’t the kind of place where they offer you a cup of herbal tea when you walk through the door or try to sell you fancy hair products. But if you want a nice simple cut from someone who knows what she’s doing for a more-​than-​fair $ 20, this is the place. I’ve got very straight hair and I’ve had lots of bad cuts in the past, but Nancy does a great job with it. They’re a bit hard to find — you have to go in the door of the residential hotel and they’re on the left.

I never like my haircuts anywhere else, but Nancy has never disappointed me. It’s not flashy, it’s just reliable. Nancy knows what she’s doing, no doubt and she’s a very warm and caring person on top of that.

Trust me, you will love Nancy or Shannon as much as I do after just one visit. I am their loyal customer because this mother-​daughter team is simply the best in New Haven. They listen to their customers and take time to make sure you are happy with your haircut. I never once had a bad haircut here, and I have been going for 3 years now. My best friend along with my boyfriend are both hooked as well. Go to Hair Niche for your next haircut, have a good chat with Nancy, it is better than therapy.
