Man I really don’t write reviews but i had because my food was the ! I ordered the chicken lo mein comb with pf rice and a small egg drop soup. The girl told it would be 40 min so i was like cool and not even 15 min later i get the call and my food has arrived so as i sit down and begin to unravel my food i notice my food was piping hot! YUM! The soup was nice hot and tasty. The comb was straight up delicious and hot and i would most definitely order this meal again.

Worst experience I have ever had with Chinese take out. Delivery driver called and asked me to come outside, which was no problem. However, he was not out front. He called again, yelling at me telling me I was not outside. I saw him, told him to turn and he flies by-again yelling at me. This went on for over 20 minutes, as he blared his horn, angering my neighbors to the point they were yelling at him. Finally he shut up and listened-gets out of his car and again is yelling at me. The food was as bad as the driver. Wonton soup had no flavor-and were weirdly gummy. Fried wontons were also flavorless and chewy. The chicken with garlic sauce was mediocre at best, and the egg roll was just dough. Very disappointing food and atrocious customer service. Stay away from this nightmare!!!

Very happy with my decision to try this place out. I ordered online which was an easy process and my order was completed accurately in about 15 minutes. For the price you get a huge portion, I ordered the general tso’s lunch and added an egg roll for $ 0.50. Total came to $ 6.38 and was easily enough food for lunch and dinner. The quality of this seemed much better than the experience I had with the other chinese place down the street. If your reading this and deciding between Blessings II Go and State Garden, hands down order from State Garden for a much better value and higher quality.

Ordered pick-up from here the other night because my girlfriend and I wanted something easy and close and didn’t feel like cooking. Their food was just what I wanted from a hole-in-the-wall Chinese place. Both of us got the General Tso’s chicken. For only $ 7.70 each we got the combination platter that came with an egg roll and pork fried rice. Substituted white rice for one of the orders no problem. The portions were huge. Had we known this we probably could have both been fine sharing one order. Since neither of us are too into Chinese food left overs we had to waste a good bit. Also, the fortune cookies were really stale and chewy. 4⁄5 stars.

Best place in New Haven I’ve found for delivery Chinese food. We got the general tso chicken, Kung po tofu, pork fried rice, vegetable lo mein, and won ton soup. Everything tasted very good and was typical for an Americanized«fast food» Chinese restaurant. Foodies looking for a gourmet experience look elsewhere, but if you’re in the mood for a lazy home movie night this place is great, and we even had tons left over for lunch for probably the next two days. Arrived quickly and extremely hot. Prices extremely reasonable especially considering the very large portion sizes! Delivery guy was super pleasant, all smiles and gave us a free liter of soda. Exceeded expectations based on previous delivery Chinese we’ve gotten in the area, would recommend you ignore some of the other negative reviews and give it a try!

This is the only place I order from. Good quality, fast delivery, sometimes they give me free sodas or extra spring rolls just because.

If you’re looking for cheap fried chinese food, these is the best place in town. Their General Tso’s Tofu is superior to most and the veggie lomein is fantastic. Other great items are the scallion pancakes and fried veggie dumplings.

Never again will I order delivery. …what a rude delivery driver. He totally embarrassed me at my job due to a misunderstanding when the order was placed. However I would think it important to be as professional as you can to represent your restaurant and just be civil in a place of business! Im willing to sacrifice good food for appropriate manners.

I arrived at this restaurant hoping to eat in, but found the place filthy and full of bugs. Even after order to go, I had to wait in a bug-infested environment, stepping on several right next to me! In the end, I placed my take out order in a dumpster and went elsewhere to eat.

I decided to give State Garden a try and ordered their General Tso’s chicken for delivery. Before opening my food and trying it out, I noticed the first big turn-off — a delivery charge on my receipt. I checked the menu, and it turns out that anything less that $ 12 is subject to a delivery charge. If I was a lesser person, I would just pay the charge and not tip the driver, but I know that these charges generally don’t go to the driver, so I can’t do that. As a result, I surely won’t order delivery from these guys again unless I’m doing it with a big group. The meal itself was alright, but just alright. It wasn’t bad, and I could certainly eat from here again, but it was really just the same as anywhere else; the sauce was tasty, the chicken was soggy. Meh. On the plus side, the portion of chicken was one of the biggest I’ve had. My search for a «wow» Chinese place in New Haven continues…

Food is fine, but man the service is consistently awful. The girl who takes the orders argues with half the customers. Go to blessings to go instead, where food is pretty much the same and they at least say ‘hello’

Not for the nose in the air food snob. Its cheap. Its tasty. The type of place you go to when you need something quick or on those movie nights when you want to order in. This place does the trick. One of the better Chinese«fast food» restaurants in the area.

Good take-out; don’t even think about eating in. Brown rice available at no extra charge. Inexpensive lunch specials; add soup for only 50 cents; fresh food. My favorite lunch take-out spot. They tend to use way too much sauce, your food can be swimming in the sauce, but if you simply order«sauce on the side», there will be no sauce on your food, with the sauce in a separate container.

This place has awful service. The first time we ordered from them they completely forgot an entire dish we ordered. When we called asking about it, they said they would«make it up to us next time.» Although we were pretty infuriated with the poor service, we thought we would give them a second chance. The second time we ordered from them the driver actually argued we put in the address wrong!(I ordered online and checked to make sure — it was entered correctly). The driver complained he couldn’t see the house number, and that no such house existed. It turns out he wasn’t even on my street to begin with! Unless you want greasy food with a long wait and poor service DONOTORDER from State Garden.

This place has the best general tso’s bean curd AROUND. The only problem is that I’m a broccoli fiend and not ONCE in the years of my ordering extra broccoli have they actually put extra broccoli in my order. Alas. But the scallion pancakes(delightfully burnt) and the veggie lo mein(I order it with egg) are also delish, and if you order over twenty bucks of food they give you a free can of soda, hooray! Do NOT eat-in unless you like institutional ambiance, though, and don’t eat the crispy noodles – they’re always stale.

Great take-out. Quick, easy, and yummy. I always get general tso’s bean curd and cold Asian sesame noodles. I have had the order messed up a couple of times and they delivered pork dumplings instead of vegetable ones. This happened twice, and when I called the second time they said they would send what I ordered but they never came. I can’t help but keep going though because it’s good and easy!

According to its menu, State Garden claims to have the«best food in town» though I can say, with conviction, that it DOESNOT have the best food in town. It’s not even close. First, State Garden is a small, grimy Chinese take-out joint with pink plastic tables. I wanted to eat-in but that’s a big mistake because, aside form the lack of ambience, they also don’t have any plates(I ate directly out of the take-out containers with a plastic fork). Initially I came because State Garden’s menu has some unusual items(see below). I ordered a small broccoli with garlic sauce($ 4.55), a large Szechuan bean cake($ 6.55) and a scallion pancake($ 3). I got it all with brown rice; kudos to State Garden for not defaulting to crappy white rice. The scallion pancake was prepared imprecisely; there was too much dough and not enough scallions. Also, the soy dipping sauce that comes with it, was overly sweet. The broccoli with garlic sauce was absurdly oily(the dish was floating in a quarter-inch of oil) and the sauce was a sticky, gooey concoction that seemed to be 90% cornstarch. The Szechuan bean cake was slightly less oily and gooey, but not by much. The dish itself tasted okay, but not great. Also, I had hoped«bean cakes» would be something unusual and different when, in fact, they were just slabs of tofu. The friendly service and low prices prevent me from giving this place 1-star. It’s not a total hole, but I won’t be coming back here anytime soon. Go to Hunan Café in downtown New Haven instead.

as far as hole in the wall chinese restaurants go state garden is my favorite in new haven. they follow your dietary instructions(veganyzing) and your non sensical requests(tofu chopped small and extra crispy). they will also deliver to you across town in a snow storm but if they do make sure you tip them well because they deserve it.

If you are home and you want to order out and delivery made this is the place to call. State Garden has the best Chicken w Broccoli that melts in your mouth. Portions are good that you have to save some for later. Delivery must be of $ 10.00 and when I have a sweet tooth I also get their fried apple sticks, they taste like apple pie.
