Went to Tarry Lodge for an AMAZING lunch today! You definitely need a reservation at any time of day. We went at 1 pm and it was packed, but luckily I made a reservation through OpenTable. I ordered off of the 3 course lunch for $ 20 menu. I started with a tasty gorgonzola salad, followed by the best Margherita pizza I have ever tasted, and ended with the twist soft serve ice cream topped with pistachios and crushed biscotti. I paid the extra $ 5 for wine(tasting size)…I don’t think the small serving was worth the price and would probably just order a full glass next time. The service was decent and the people who work there were pleasant. It was quite enjoyable an enjoyable experience and we will definitely be back soon!

Homemade Ricotta drizzled with honey and pomegranate and root veg with grilled crustini… what??? That was just the beginning of a perfect evening for valentine’s day. From the manager and our server Mike to the fresh ingredients and creative execution in the kitchen, you really have to check this place out. Saw somewhere a reviewer complain saying they didn’t like their fat-to-meat ratio of the prosciutto di parma… huh? Sliced perfectly and fresh. takes 7 months to make /cure.leave it alone — it was perfect. Have to try the egg truffle pizza. Nothing like it. rich, creamy and crispy. They could’ve served box wine, been rude and had asbestos falling from ceiling and I’d still give them 4 stars for the pie alone. Great food, people and night. Thanks.

Great service and food. Black fettuccine is my favorite! Only thing negative about this place is speed of its delivery service. I often wait almost an hour to get my food when I order via its delivery service. Dessert is very expensive, but other items are great price.

An excellent restaurant! The menu is ample and the food is wonderful. The Sunday three course lunch is excellent and a great value. The service is outstanding and the wine options are great.

This is an excellent addition to New Haven’s restaurant scene. We had lunch here today and the food and service was great. The menu is a wide variety of Italian dishes from pizza to pasta to proper main courses. The wine selection was very good, and I’d like to especially flag the great service.

Went on a Saturday night around 10, surprisingly somewhat busy still, there were people were still coming in. The crowd was mostly young adults and adults in their 40s. It’s a great location in downtown new haven by the Yale campus and other great restaurants. For the location, it was not expensive, nor quite impressive, there’s certainly better restaurants in the Hartford area. It’s still worth a shot to come, quality is okay if you’re looking for an inexpensive causal dinner. Porchetta was sliced, good flavor. A little too much fat to meat ratio that I would have liked I had the scallops, it was alright. I know it may not be in season right now, but was very disappointed in their size. So small, would except that from red lobster or something, not from this restaurant. The tiramisu is absolutely amazing. Fresh cream, very moist. Would definitely come back and try their lunch special — 3 course meal for $ 20

Delicious food, comfortable upscale ambiance. Not inexpensive but high quality food and service. A great addition to the NHV food scene. The bolognese is amazing. Be careful sitting outside, there is quite a bit of foot traffic and you’ll be seated on the sidewalk.

Lovely place and incredibly rude host. Great menu– Waiter tried to redeem the condescending attitude of the host. By the end of the evening, all was rectified by the host. Food was amazing and we will return.

I went to tarry lodge Saturday evening. We enjoyed some moscato and porchetta. The porchetta was thin and tender. It was a light appetizer, not that filling which was a perfect starter. I had the four cheese pizza. I originally ordered the mushroom pizza. But my order was accidentally changed, still I enjoyed it. The pizza was crispy and thin. The cheeses were melted to perfection and all blended well together. I had some of my sister’s spaghetti carbonara, it was fantastic. The pasta is made fresh daily, it had a little crunch to it which I loved. It also had little chunks of delicious porchetta. For dessert my boyfriend and I split the olive oil twist ice cream. The twist consists of chocolate and vanilla soft serve. The toppings we chose were honey and biscotti crumbs. It was my favorite part of the meal! I wish I was able to try the mushroom pizza. I will have to order next time! Also the staff was super friendly especially our waitress.

I went to this place for the first time last night. It was SO good! We got the porchetta to start. It was shaved thin and served with bread. There were four of us and I felt the portion size was just right. My sister and I shared spaghetti carbonara and a four cheese pizza. We actually ordered a mushroom pizza but somehow ended up with a cheese but it was so good we ate it anyway! The spaghetti in my dish was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, al dente. I could tell the pasta was freshly made which made it even better. The pizza was also good. It’s made in a brick oven so it was that crisp but smoky flavor. For dessert my sister got the olive oil and chocolate ice cream twist and I got the marscapone maple cheesecake. Both were so good! The cheesecake had a caramel maple sauce over it and candied pine nuts. It all went perfectly together. The food warrants a 5 star review, even our waitress was probably the best I’ve ever had. The reason I gave it four stars was because they gave us the wrong pizza. Otherwise, this place is definitely amazing! I can’t wait to go back.

Fascinating… I tried to eat here at 5:30 when place was empty and hostess said I couldn’t sit in window. They have the homemade ricotta and squash caponata I live on the menu in Westport. Because of hostess, I left and ate elsewhere. Walking back to my car at 7, it’s very curious how same place I wanted to sit, is wide open and available. Train the hostess better to not lose patrons.

I’m a little confused here about all of the great reviews(both on Unilocal and from people I know who have been here). The food was pretty bland. It was good but nothing really special. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing(I tried the gnocchi, and others in my party had other pasta dishes). Despite the«meh» food, I was really excited to try dessert because I was told that the soft serve with olive oil and toppings was to die for. Umm it tasted like some pretty average soft serve ice cream — I’ve had better from some stands I’ve been to and for far less money. It kind of tasted like diet ice cream? Sort of chemical-y? If that makes any sense… Tried the tiramisu which was decent, but the lady fingers were barely soaked in espresso/liqueur/etc…so, again, bland. What was perhaps most disappointing is that I came here with my grandmother for her 80th bday(a big one!) and when I made reservations I specifically asked if they could add a candle or something to dessert. THEN, when the restaurant called the day of my reservation to confirm, I again asked for a candle or something for her birthday. The person on the phone said«of course, I’ll make a note of it and make sure we take care of it!» Yeah, well… they totally didn’t. And I think that’s what disappointed me the most. Anyway, I still plan on coming back at some point because so many people have raved about this place… so maybe it was just off? although, like I’ve noted in other reviews, I kind of think people around here are into bland food. because this is not the first time I went somewhere in New Haven that was supposedly«amazing» and was incredibly let down. Italian food is better than this though — I have to wonder what Mario Batali would think if he tried the food I was served. This is also an adult man that wears crocs, so maybe he has bad taste? Not sure…

I love Tarry Lodge. It’s one of the few sit-down restaurants that have opened in New Haven over the last several years that I’ve been unequivocally impressed with every time I go. I’m baffled by the middling reviews, particularly given that it’s still almost impossible to get a table on the weekend without a reservation. The service is excellent, they have a great wine list, and all things considered, it’s not even that expensive. Oh, and the food… As will be familiar to those who have seen Molto Mario, the menu is a delicious interpolation of traditional and modern Italian cuisine. I’ve never ordered a disappointing dish, and I’m getting to the point of having tried most of them. The thin-crust pizzas are varied, nicely charred, and well-considered in their toppings and sauces. I’ve had many occasions to sit and eat at the pizza bar when there wasn’t a table available and watch the chef flip pies and work his magic. It tastes all the better for the anticipation of seeing it go in the oven. The pastas are simple, many using only a few ingredients, but packed with the degree of flavor that only results from incredible attention to detail during cooking. Take the cacio e pape – the culinary finesse required to create such an intense savoriness from nothing more than cheese, pepper, and olive oil is not to be taken lightly. If you don’t believe me, try to replicate it at home.(I failed.) The linguini with clams is just as good. Finally, I can’t recommend the olive oil soft serve highly enough. Topped with dried cherries or honey or candied pignoli or whatever other combination of toppings suits you, it’s a perfect end to the meal. Reservation frustrations aside, I’m heartened to see that they’re still doing good business almost a year in. There are hardly any decent Italian restaurants outside of Wooster Square as it is, and this is easily the best.

Similar in style & theme as all of the other locations. Sleek, w a nod to tradition, clean lines, organized, table cloths, fresh flowers. However, what stands out at this particular location is the high end attentive service. We were treated as if we were special influential guests at a 5 diamond resort. Love that! Wine list offered nice seasonal wines. The beer list while limited, offered traditional Italian beers as well as a local brew from Oxford CT. The burratta is always fresh & creamy at Tarry Lodge. The pri fix 3 course lunch is a sold deal w lunch appropriate portions. The frisée w white bean salad was fresh w a dressing that was perfectly balanced & the kale salad w strawberries was refreshing. There are so many dining choices that offer more exotic worldly cuisines in the Elm City. But this is a solid respectable, slightly reserved dining spot perfect for business lunch.

When it’s empty I like it. But there’s a clear lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. Ordered a salad featuring mushrooms and parmigiana — came dressed in pure vinegar and salted beyond edible. I waited for the waitress so long that I ate the small dollop of mushrooms and she too back the argula and parmigiana to replace. Ten minutes later she returned with a spoonful of oversalted arugula on a plate dressed in vinegar! No parmigiana. When I asked for the cheese, she took ten additional minutes to return with a dipping cup with four tiny ugly chips of parmigiana apologizing that she did not know how to use a cheese grater. Really? That’s enough to clue me into the lack of oversight at this restaurant. I’ve been here several times, and each time I visit my opinion drops another notch. May not be back for a while.

I visited New Haven for the first time this weekend and my friend took us to Tarry Lodge. And oh my goodness, am I ever glad he did! We went with a large group, so we were able to get a variety of food and I was able to try a lot of different things off the menu. We got the goat cheese pizza for the table to share and I personally got the Hanger Steak and the tiramisu for dessert. I also tried the striped bass, the eggplant Parmesan and the olive oil ice cream. Everything was delicious and I was blown away by everything, as was everyone in our party(it was the first time most of us had been there). My favorite was the goat cheese pizza and the eggplant parm. The tiramisu was also amazing. I would highly recommend the Tarry Lodge! I will definitely be back.

We’ve had our eye on Tarry Lodge for some time. An Italian restaurant owned by Mario Batali… it has to be good!!! We went as a party of 5, but ordered like a party of 7 :). Each and every entrée and appetizer was delicious. All of us agreed, that each dish was worthy of ordering on a return visit. In a city known for its pizza, Tarry Lodge still holds its own. Its traditional Neoplitan pizza is a nice departure from the New Haven standard. Using 00 flour produces a much softer chewier crust. Don’t worry… you still get that nice oven char. Note: the restaurant is a little tight. They really make use of the space, but at the expense of a little elbow room.

If you can find a parking place, you are in luck, because this place is great. It’s gorgeous inside, and it’s a perfect spot for a quiet workday lunch — and looking around, it’d be a great place for a romantic date. One of us had the guanciale pizza, which smelled fantastic. It was like Italian bibimbap, with the sunny side up egg begging to be broken and spread around. I opted for the squid ink fettucine with shrimp and chorizo, and my boss had carbonara(they make it without peas and mushrooms, though). My pasta was incredible. Really. Squid ink is hit or miss, but this was a definite hit. Sometimes the ink can make the pasta have a weird texture, and if done improperly can leave your mouth a bit black, but this was perfect. The shrimp was not skimped on, and I’m a sucker for chorizo anyway. I had a ginger lemongrass soda as well, which was amazing. The service was a bit laid back, and we were faced with an impromptu work crisis, so we had to run, but it was a really great experience. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting either a nice workday lunch, or a romantic dinner.

Similar to other reviews, good quality food and a warm, inviting décor but the service could use some work. I ate here on Christmas Eve, as a party of 4. The interior is long and narrow and tables are quite close together, so it can be a bit loud if the place is full. The bar is just a service bar so there’s no other seating besides a few counter spots facing the kitchen, which I presume is for someone dining alone or a party of 2. Our waiter was quite spastic and my friends thought he might have been drunk or high. He kept disappearing and random other waitstaff and bus boys would«fill in» during his absences. A couple of the staff seemed to fumble with silverware and clearing plates, so hopefully that is just something that will improve with time and some proper training. We waited for awhile to even order a bottle of wine, but luckily we were not in a rush. The wine list is very extensive and has all rare Italian wines. I honestly had not heard of most of them, but luckily the waiter was able to suggest a white that was excellent. I’d like to return and try some other items and see if the service improves. They have a pre-fixe lunch menu that seems worth another trip.
