We had only allotted two and half hours for the museum, but I wish we had spent some more time there. There was really a lot to look at from different categories(african art, asian art, modern art, etc). There were a lot of people on a Sunday, but it wasnt so packed that it was uncomfortable. Just be careful not to touch anything, including the walls because they are all pieces of art. A great place to spend an afternoon on a weekend!

Excellent art museum with a wide variety of genres. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They have works from several artists we all grew up hearing about including Picasso and Degas. Can’t believe such a nice museum is free. Spent 2 hours in here with my family and we didn’t get to see it all.

Probably the best art gallery I’ve ever been to. I spent at least 3 hours in here and definitely could have spent more if I wasn’t getting tired. FREE. For the amazing space, layout, and abundance of art… I would gladly pay to come here. Right in downtown. Go Yale! Would come again anytime I’m in New Haven.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a philistine. I almost never willingly go to museums on my own. But in the instance of the Yale University Art Gallery, I’m glad circumstances led me here. I had about 3 hours to kill before meeting up with a friend, and the Yale Gallery was the right price(free). There was so much to see that even I found things that I was interested in across the four floors. There are also a ton of stairwells all throughout, so you can snake your way around the entire building, or just run through each floor one at a time. My favorite exhibits and pieces in November 2015(in no particular order): –Some Rothko’s –A few Picasso’s –Indo Pacific(Borneo) sculptures/weapons –The Asian art section –The European still life photography –A Jackson Pollack –American Modern paintings –Donald Blumberg photo sets If you have time and/or love art, definitely check out the Yale Art Gallery. It might make a believer out of you too!

So much to see! I loved this museum so much. I got my heart’s fill of Pollock’s, impressionist era paintings, and even a Dali! Very cool to see in real life. Definitely a must visit while touring the Yale campus.

We were on the Yale campus and had some time to spare before our next meeting. We were very impressed. The art gallery is four floors. They have some amazing artifacts and paintings. Some we were stunned to see here. They have ‘The Night Café’ by van Gogh. They have a few works by Monet. We are very happy we made the time to explore this free gallery. If we are back in the area we would stop again. There is too much to see and I am sure we missed something. Make time to give this place a walk thru. If you check in on Unilocal you get a free post card.

Incredible free resource! Some of my favorite paintings are here including«The Night Café» by Van Gogh. Picasso, Duchamp, Pollack and more! The new edition is finally finished and houses impressive ancient works. There are lockers available for bags. Make sure to stop by the peaceful sculpture garden outside on the way out.

Yale University Art Gallery contains one of the nation’s major art collections and it takes some time to see everything on display at any given time. It is housed in a series of connected building on the New Haven campus, most prominently one designed by the late Louis Kahn(who also designed the Yale Center for British Art across the street which is currently closed for renovations). Their holdings include a vast collection of European and American fine and decorative arts as well as smaller but still significant assemblages from other areas, particularly including works from ancient Mediterranean cultures and Asia. Their European collections are notable for an extensive selection of early Italian gilt panel paintings as well as oils by artists as diverse as Hieronymus Bosch, Titian, Velázquez and Van Gogh. The main entrance has steps, but an alternative is available and all galleries are now accessible, although since they are in disparate buildings some planning is required of all visitors to navigate successfully; facilities are accessible. There is a modest bookstore in the entry lobby, although unfortunately Yale does not have a handbook of their own collection in print. They hold special exhibitions throughout the year. There is no fee for admission; there is also no parking lot and(paid) parking on surrounding blocks is often difficult to find.

Oh please please go visit the YUAG! It’s wonderful, it’s free, it’s a mini Met on the shores of CT. You really can’t go wrong. They have African sculpture, European Art, Art of the Middle Ages, Southeast Asian art — they really hit all the major categories. And they have all the big names you’d want to see too — Monet, Renoir, Goya. It’s amazing. I can’t wait to visit again.

This was such a nice art gallery with a lot of floors/rooms with art that I had seen/heard about with some more classic pieces and others that are more modern(they had Magritte as well which I love!). It’s very welcoming and free to the public which I appreciated. I walked around through different art galleries of African, Asian art, etc. It was very interesting and definitely worth checking out! Also, got a free postcard upon Unilocal check in!

Coming from DC, it’s a breath of fresh air to be in free museums again. Despite it’s low, low price, this museum doesn’t disappoint and has quite a variety of work given it’s relatively small size. While there, we saw African art, American furnishings, Chinese, Dutch, French, and English art, as well as a relatively decent modern art section with some really interesting and beautiful pieces. Most of the artists they are exhibiting I wasn’t really familiar with, but that’s not saying much. However, they do have several pieces by the big guys(Monet, Rodin, Degas, etc.) so you’ll see something that you recognize while you wander around. There are a couple sculpture gardens scattered around, which would be great if you wanted to read a book or study. I thought that the museum was well curated and had a nice flow to it, though it was a bit weird to not be able to access certain things(like the exit) from certain places in the museum. Pay attention to the maps and signs(or ask a security guard) if you are having trouble finding your way out. There’s a really small museum shop, though it seemed mostly to be books and postcards, without the breadth that some of them boast.

The fact that this place has so many great pieces of art work makes the gallery worth visiting alone. However if you need to be convinced further here goes nothing… 1. It’s free 2. The building is beautifully interesting 3. There’s a good turn around on many of the temporary exhibits 4. They often have events and guest speakers(see Yale arts calendar) 5. It’s a large space which never feels overly crowded 6. Even the permanent collection is so vast that one visit won’t be enough 7. On some of the Sundays there’s a tour of the gallery 8. They have good outdoor spaces to enjoy 9. The view of new haven from the top floor is kind of decent 10. Did I mention it’s free!

This place is a gem — a real public resource! The museum is FREE, including all exhibits. It houses world-famous pieces and artists, including an extensive modern art wing, as well as ancient art and artifacts. You can become a museum member for free and get quarterly newsletters and email updates with events. To top it off, today we experienced their FREE(are you sensing a theme?) family program«Stories & Art» with our 3-year-old daughter. The staff(or volunteers) led the group of children and parents to multiple lo
