Herrill Lanes

What a trip down nostalgia lane. It’s been years since I stepped a foot in Herrill Lanes, and it was just like I remembered it, and yeah, maybe it is a bit outdated, but it has a certain charm about it. Right down to that semi-​funky bowling alley smell.
The great thing about going bowling here as an adult as opposed to a teen is you find out the beers here are extremely cheap. $ 3 for a bottle. Wow. Where have I been. That’s enough to get me in the door.
We were in a large group and bowled three games, we had a lot of fun. We made a lot of bad jokes about balls. It happens.

So we are currently here this place is nice but the workers are freaking cunts especially the old lady I give it a one star because of the staff I probably won’t come again I came with friends n family and they treated us like kids for a simple spill. Made it such a huge big deal for no reason. Yelled at us and made a friend of mine switch shoes made a huge deal about it how disrespectful I dnt know if it was because we were not Caucasian and or having a good time drinking only one pitchers n order so much food I really don’t know. But deff won’t come back for the disrespect. There are ways to talk to people. Timmy was kind though. I actually felt bad for him this old lady with glasses was like Timmy clean this change his shoes do that like chill. It’s a game people come here to relax and play not to get yelled at. Disrespectful place. Judgmental. And they don’t play music unless u pay for it. We had to play music on our phones. Meanwhile it’s 24. Plus 4. Soemthing for shoes an hour. Like dam. Nvm this places. It wasn’t our first choice though.

Sat night rock n bowl nights are so much fun. I like the disco bowling. They play games and contests also during the night to make it more fun. I have friends that won prizes and free games.

I came here a few times with my friends to do some bowling and i had a great time both times! This bowling alley is a little outdated but it is still great! The staff is friendly and the place is affordable! Great time for friends and family!

I give this place one star, only because I HAD to give a star to leave this review. The second we walked in the staff person looked at us and without any remorse or kindness said that all the lanes were booked for a school. And right after, the leagues were starting. We looked over and there were 4 lanes open. The old lady manager came out and very rudely said they were for practicing. I felt very unwelcome and was shocked at the lack of kindness and warmth. They were so rude. One bowling alley to cross off the list.

Awesome place for younger generations! I remember going when I was younger and just having an awesome time with friends and family!

First time here is my last time here. Bowling alley is so outdated. The computer system is from the eighties. 6 bucks a game and 4 bucks for shoes. Not worth it. Bowl elsewhere

I’m a serious league bowler, and to someone like me, Herrill is about as good as it gets. Instead of catering only to the martini-​and-​black light crowd (which the national chain in the area only seems to care about), Herrill seems to understand the sport and takes their organized leagues seriously. In addition, I’ve noticed Herrill’s birthday parties for kids seem to be always going strong on weekends. In addition to all that, the pro shop staffed by (PBA pro) Tommy and Anthony is one of the best places to have a new ball drilled in Long Island. And maybe I am old fashioned, but I really enjoy the 1970s vibe at Herrill; their seating areas and pinsetters may not be the newest, but they’re usually in fine working order and the house is always meticulously clean. So to Gail, Cynthia, Frankie, Joe, Jody, Bill, the Genovas, and all the rest of the staff at Herrill, thanks from one of your loyal customers. Don’t know what I’d do without this place.

first time here yesterday and there was nothing to complain about.
staff is friendly, the lanes are very clean, plenty of bowling balls, and they even have a DJ that mixes funky combos of music.
seems like they have some sort of special everyday —
yesterday after 9pm was $ 10 flat fee + $ 1 rental shoes, $ 1/​game.
i would definitely come back.

Hated this place!!! no music and you can dance or make loud noises or clap! I went there with a group of friends and a lady (I think shes the manager) would come and bother us ever 15 min. She said she’ll kick us out if we don’t be quiet. We weren’t even that loud. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!

Pretty good place to bring your family, I see a lot of kids bowl there. They have a great special on Saturdays where it’s 2 dollars a game per person from 12pm-​5pm. Shoe rental only cost me 2 dollars as well.
There’s plenty of parking spaces and it’s really easy to find, (its about 5 – 10 minutes off the L.I.E). The décor is not glamorous but if you love to bowl and love deals this is your place!

WARNING!!! CASH ONLY. Went here for a birthday party for one of my friends. We reserved 3 lanes between 20 or so people. For a Saturday night the place was pretty cool, after 10pm or so there is Rock-​n-​Bowl where they play music from the 60’s and on with disco lights going. Pitchers of beer were cheap, $ 9 each and bowling shoe rental was also inexpensive, I think $ 3.75-$ 4.25 pp. We played for 3 hours and paid $ 70 all together (for 6 people) for one of the three lanes we used, which ended up being about $ 12 pp for 3 hours of bowling. Only complaint was that place was cash only so I went through the $ 60 I brought pretty quickly between the shoe rental, the lane rental and beer. Place was not super clean or super dirty. I enjoyed my time there.

I bowl a lot. This is my house of choice. The lanes are usually well kept and the staff is friendly. My friends and I usually close the place when we go for their $ 10 cover change and $ 1 games during the week. Beers are always cold and they give pitchers on buy backs!
Tommy DeLutz, Jr., the pro, is awesome. He’s made many equipment recommendations that have made me a better bowler. He’s there after the pro shop closes without forcing the customer out either.
They lose 1 star for the being a bit on the dingy side and for those pocket 10-​pins that seems to come up a lot (misracks).

Had my kids party here. The place is in need of renovation. The service was good during the party. Plenty of parking.

Do bowling alleys skeeve you out because you’re wearing shoes that have been worn by only-​God-​knows-​how-​many people? Well, this is the bowling alley for you BECAUSE… they spray shoes down with disinfectant once they’re returned. Impressive, I know.
I went on a double date here the other day when it was decided that Whitestone Lanes, our local spot, is run down and dingy… and kind of gross, really. Herrill Lanes was worth the drive and looked promising even from the outside.
We went on a weekend so naturally, it was busy. All the cool kids bowl (ha!). We were asked to wait twenty minutes but time went by quickly, thanks to an arcade area. It has a shooting game, racing game, a photo booth for three dollars, a crane game (with a particularly flimsy crane), and the best — an air hockey table! The boyfriends played an intense game of air hockey while my best friend and I looked on, with a few other nice people. Soon after the second game, our name was announced on the speaker and we were directed to our lane.
Our lane was perfectly slippery. And the balls are nice (bahaha! perverted moment…).
There’s really not much more to say.
This place is your standard bowling alley — and CLEAN. What more do you want?
Oh, I also need to mention this…
I broke 100 there (101, baby! Woohoo! — that like, never happens) so I will be back.

Gross place. Make sure to wash your hands when you leave. It smells bad and is smaller then most lanes I have been to. Also it is very dark and sad looking inside. And if you are not from NY don’t bother going to the bar seeing as how they do not accept drivers licenses from other states as id (which is illegal). The one thing I will say is that it is cheap as dirt, but you get what you pay for.

After Sterling Lanes closed down, and I got back into bowling pretty regularly Herrill Lanes was the place to go. The biggest perk of going to Herrill is the yearly membership called «Bowling NY». This $ 10 yearly fee grants the holder discounts on games at certain times on certain days. This includes Wednesdays after 9 PM (I think, I haven’t been on a Wednesday in a while) and Sundays from 9 AM to 12PM (that’s when I’m there!) and from 6 PM until closing. The Bowling NY card is definitely worth it. On Sunday mornings I pay $ 2.25 per game. It’s a great deal considering I’ve paid 5 bucks per game elsewhere when I was desperate to bowl.
Herrill Lanes also just renovated their lanes by replacing their old wood lanes (which I loved) with new Brunswick synthetic lanes (which are pretty nice). The Pro Shop is helpful for those who are looking for a ball or are looking for a replacement.
For the beginner bowler, they have plenty of house balls which are available to use ranging from 6 pounds to 16 pounds. The coffee shop serves typical food like fries, chicken fingers, burgers, coffee, beer, pizza, etc. I recommend not getting the pizza though. It wasn’t the best of pizzas coming out of a box and getting thrown into the oven. There’s also a bar which is open at nights.
Overall, Herrill Lanes is the best bowling alley in the NYC area even though you have to go to New Hyde Park to go there. It’s well worth the trek.
