Merengue

The food was gross. I had the pork with rice lunch special. The rice was mushy and had no flavor and the pork had a weird mustard sauce. I will never be back

This place is a joke. Don’t order delivery with them, you’ll be disappointed, hungry and frustrated.

I placed an order at 5:15 and received an estimated delivery time of 6:15. Since the food was not delivered by 6:30 I contacted Unilocal for assistance on the order. I was told by Unilocal they could not get through to the business and the owner was unreachable for an update. By 7:00 still nothing therefore I had to make other arrangements for my guests and the kids. Who does that ?!

Wasn’t thrilled with this place. Ordered about 7pm when we got home from work and the food seemed like it was sitting around all day. Ordered the fried fish special And they sent fried salmon (yuk), who fries salmon?! Every other spanish restaurant serves a white fish filet. The rice with it was dry and getting hard, definitely not fresh. The pepper steak was tough and also not very fresh. I know it was the end of the day but when you’re in the food business it’s up to you to serve fresh, quality food. Maybe they were just having a bad day, that happens I will try them again sometime And hopefully I will be able to leave a better review.

Came here today food was very good service was very excellent. I would recommend this place. 5 stars 100%

Came here today to pick up food and I got the fattiest oxtail I have ever seen. The fat was half an inch thick on each piece. I have had a lot of Dominican food being that my family is from there and they also left a whole order out of my bag!!! Staff is not friendly at all. I would rather go hungry than eat here again.

Really great Dominican food! Loved their chicken soup, not too salty and great portions of veggies! The Spanish rice is delicious, but a little oily– the chicken is so juicy it falls over the bone.
Ordered the half chicken special and split it with my coworker for lunch! Very happy, can’t wait to order again. :)

I have to say that i have given this place numerous chances but i’ve always been left dissatisfied. last night i ordered food and the meat was fine and well seasoned but the rice was terrible. at first i didnt notice anything but once i tool a bite the rice was cold and hard. after that first bite i realized the rice also had a foul odor. i quickly threw it away and did not allow my daughter to eat it. im not writing this review because i want to trash the restaurant im just concerned that people could potentially get sick from eating here. needless to say i wont be ordering from here ever again.

The first time I came here the food looked so dry and I decided to pass. 3 months later i was in the area and same thing. I decided to just get an empanada. I asked for beef they gave me chicken, the inside was cold straight out of a refrigerator cold. I couldn’t eat it so they gave me the beef. The young girls was pleasant but older heavier set women had an attitude shaking her head as if i was being picky. Got the beef. It was even colder. At that point i left the crap on the counter and walked out. How hard is it to get an empanada order right? Incompetent. I glad i only wasted $ 2.

It’s a bit pricey, but you get a lot off food for your buck. $ 10.99 for huge portions is fine by me! I had the chicken in sauce l with rice and beans. And to top it off they included fried plantains! I see some people say they don’t take credit cards, that is not true. They do. Staff is very nice, and the place was very clean. They had a TV playing the news.

I ordered food at 11:30 am called at 12:30 pm to see where the food is and was told the food is on the way. at 1:30 pm they tell me the driver went back to the restaurant because they couldn’t find the address/​/​mind you they have delivered to my job several times before/​/​they could have told me they were not going to deliver the food instead I had to call find out and then cancel my order ((THE WORST))

I been eating dominican food all my life from various restaurants and i have to say this is the worst dominican food I have ever had in my life. Since this is he only dominican restaurant in the New Hyde Park Area I have tried to eat numerous times and every time I have been greatly disappointed. Every time i order for delivery they either forget something or don’t have something. Today’s issue was they did not have «beans» what dominican restaurant does not have beans. I am fed up and will not be eating here again. I suggest that no one eats from here.

My second time at this restaurant and the food is delicious I love Dominican food it’s a little rinky-​dink joint but you know what the food is amazing it’s worth the trip

The food here is great! I’ve had the Mofongo with pork and the roasted chicken with spanish rice & beans. The portions are plentiful so you’re getting way more than your money’s worth. I definitely got all my coworkers to order from this place.

This place has salty beef empanadas that can kill you first bite, the batida de leche are usually unavailable and depending on who makes it, you might have a cup full of sugar. Platano maduros are dry, hard and not sweet. Saw a couple roaches crawling around the buffet area. The tripe soup is more like a guisado not a soup. MOST of the menu is NOT available but the pernil was good. If you’re desperate for spanish food it would be better to go there and look than to order. The potato salad is good. They OVERCHARGE tremendously on the delivery order and it’s NOT worth it when it arrives and you might have to check to make sure everything’s in the vag before you leave cuz that’s a problem too.

This place is hit or miss, sometimes the food is great and sometimes it taste like its from the day before. The beans taste like they just throw sazon on it and say «bam, its Dominican now». Ive had better Dominican food, but this place does the trick sometimes.

They have a jukebox, that blasts Latino music as you are trying to place your order. The server asked me WHAT? at least 5 times. Hello, TURN THAT THING DOWN!!! There are day worker types sitting around with their beers at 1pm. This place is also only open sporadically as we’ve passed by a few times and it’s always closed.
The food is way too salty and they don’t have salsa verde. WHAT LATIN RESTAURANT DOESN’T HAVE GREEN SAUCE!!!
Never coming back again, no matter how much we crave Latin food.

Basically, I once gave this place 5 stars, but not so much anymore. They had been closed for about a month and, naturally, ALL I craved during that time was Dominican food from Merengue.
We had driven and called (translation: stalked) the restaurant like three times a week waiting for them to reopen. Just when we thought they were shut down for good, by chance we went last night and all was well in the world… until…
We got home to eat. We ordered the usual: chicharonnes, tostones, etc. We had no tostones in the bag when we got home and the chicharonnes tasted like fish. Disgusting. We called and the gentleman said we could come for the tostones and, when I asked what could be done about the chicharonnes, he said we could bring it back to exchange for what we want. (Note: when I brought it back, he fried a fresh piece of pork, picked the old pieces out of my takeout tray and put the fresh ones in– not very professional, however I did tell him it was okay to do so)
So, that turned out okay. BUT a major gripe I have is the quality. They gave hardly any rice (which is like the cheapest item you could give someone at a restaurant) a couple chunks of meat, and for $ 10 for a plate– not worth it to me. I’d rather order Chinese takeout or West Indian/​Caribbean food– and for 10 bucks I can eat for the week.

I am literally waiting on hold right now at work (this is the second time) because a co worker recommended their food and the girl that answered stated wait a minute. After i lost track of how long it was i called back and it was busy (obviously bc she left the phone hanging). Right now this is the second time i call and it is the same thing.
Dont answer the fucking phone if we cant place orders…

A pretty girl sat down at the end of our lunch table one day and she had just heated up the most delicious smelling food. Some sort of pork dish ~ Mmm! The sheer memory of it makes me hungry! She told us she bought it at Merengue and the rest was history!
I hear Merengue opened up earlier this year and already the prices went up $ 1 so get over there fast! [some dishes became «Special Order”]
Here’s the deal: $ 5.99 for Entrée and 2 Sides, $ 6.99 for Special Order and 2 Sides.
Aroma: Mouth Watering!
Taste: Wonderful!
Portions: HUMUNGO! Even the guys had a little take out box!
Price: Can’t be Beat!
The Entrée’s we had were: (1) Oxtail Stew (2) Pernil (Roast Pork)
Although the oxtail was delicious, the Pernil was AWESOME, their signature slow roasted pulled pork with crispy skin. YUM! It was my first time trying it and I loved it!
Thing’s I still have to try:

Cuban/​Pernil Hero
Modongo Soup (Beef Tripe)
Baked Pork Ribs
Goat Stew (Fri Only!)
EVERY Empanada
